I'm a complete noob to RC flying. I'm very interested in a heli and have been reading lots of threads here. I'm going to eventually buy something that is mid sized and not so twitchy as I've read micros are. However, I was going to buy one of these Blade Runners to play with around the house. I also found this model that looks very similar to the Blade Runner. It is only $60 delivered:
http://store.yahoo.com/raidentech168/wiwhfu3dflra.html
Since you're 14 and trying to save for a car and still have some fun with RC, this might suffice until you can get something else.

Hey Greg, how big is the rotor diameter? If it is small enough mabye you could try and make it fly through the basketball hoop. I'm still wondering about getting this or not. I want one but it is more of a money issue. Money is hard to come by for a 14 year old kid and I should be saving up to buy a car. Once I'm 16 I'll be devoted to buying a car and THEN the planes and Blade Runners will be covering my room and I'll be testing the planes for ROG abilities in my street. GRRR I can't wait until I get a job!

I feel what you are saying kid I was there , But I am 33 yrs old. I can tell you after paying all my bills, I spend extra cash on every Rc that interests me. when I saw the BladeRunner I send for it, I also bought the Whild wheels, let me tell you after removing the body from these two micro helis you will appreciate the electronics on both. Once you master the flying part you will have lots of fun. I would recomend you get the wild wheels because it comes with a 550mah Li-poly batt this means longer flight time, also remove the body carefully ,it is to heavy and for the last mode this thing is perfect with the Bladerunner's rotor blades. You can find the wild wheels for 35.99 @ Toys emporium, and rotors from ITC site. My blade runner has been grounded for sometime now bad PCB I am currently looking to use the mabuchi motors for a mico aiplane. Good luck. Fly safe

The diameter of the main blade is 11.5" and the length from the front of the main blade to the tail end is 17.25".

A buddy of mine gave me some replacement M20 motors but I am still using the stock motors. Apparently, the longevity of these motors can be very good if you keep them from getting too hot.

If your camera is like mine (it looks the same) don't try to cut off the connector (unless you know more about electronics than me - quite possible) - anyway - when i cut mine i found 3 wires instead of the 2 i was expecting - when connected to a batt, one wire was ground, the other was batt voltage, the other was a constant 5V regardless of batt voltage - upon discovering this it was clear the connector was bulky for a reason - theres components inside! anyway - i'd be surprised if the bladrunner could lift that came - it must weigh at least an ounce..

I bought the Wild Wheels version of this little heli. The internal guts look the same. I had read that it had longer flight times right out of the box. I'm very disappointed in mine. It will fly no more than 60 seconds and then won't leave the floor. It also won't hover in place but tends to drift around no matter which way I adjust the trim. I can let it sit for a few minutes and it will fly to the ceiling again for about another 60-secs, then it's back to the floor. I've cycled the battery about 5 or 6 times with no improvement. The body is styrofoam and I think it holds in a lot of heat. I'm going to get my trusty box cutter out and remove it.

If you have a voltmeter, measure the Lithium cell voltage after what you think is a full charge. It should be 4.1v-4.2v.

Another possibility is that for some reason the motors are drawing excessive current which shuts the Lithium cell down. Look at the gear system and see if any thing is binding. Perhaps after several low speed runs just sitting on the ground, it will ease up any binding.

Good luck!

Does the Wild Wheels heli fly about the same as the blade runner? Should I remove the body on it like you suggested for the blade runner? You have me interested in either of these helicopters...I WANT ANSWERS!!!! Whould it be safe to fly one of these outside? I mean in noooo wind conditions. Or would it still effect the performence?

I read somewhere on the RCUniverse site that the Wild Wheels would actually fly longer than the blade runner. So far, I've not had that experience. I'm going to lighten the body and open up the area around the motor to help keep it cool. As for flying outside, it is so light and so small that I don't think it could possibly fly outside. I'm going to try lightening mine today. Here in the Atlanta area, it's very windy and down right chilly today. There is no outdoor flying going on here today.

I know what you mean. The wind is in the 30 mph range up here in Tennessee. Cloudy, was raining earlier, you could lose a plane or heli faster than you could turn it.

Guy,

If you click on this link to Hobby People, at the bottom, you will see a part number 690677 "Alien Blade Runner Replacement Rotor Blades". These are likely the same as your Wild Wheels blades.

After taking my Blade Runner on vacation to the Outer Banks last month, my brother-in-law managed to destroy the blades beyond repair.

I ordered a new set of Replacement Rotor Blades from Hobby People for $15 and was very happy with what I got. The entire upper and lower blade set comes pre-assembled and the whole thing can be replaced by pulling the clear shrink tubing off at the top. The replacement kit even includes new spacers and tubing but I used my original ones.

My Blade Runner is as good as new again!

Nice find with free shipping too!

Even the spare blades are less expensive but it looks to be identical to the Blade Runner. Probably same manufacturer but different distributor.

Actually, they simply discontinued the original model and made it better!

Check out the full page ad on the new Blade Runner in Fly RC (p. 72 October 2005 issue).

It now has lights, a foam body, and flies for 12-15 minutes!

Interactive Toy BladeRunner

Hobby People still sells the original model but I would expect that to change soon.

Should i just buy the original BladeRunner or this one?
BTW:OT: im from finland so wat would be the cheapest way to get BladeRunner or a copy of it, cause if i order from USA shipping cost could be even higher that the price of the helicopter.

crap! i wish i knew they were making it better before i got mine a couple of days ago. i guess i got one of the last few old models. at least i got one with the blue body rather that the black one. i think it looks better than black. too bad i had to cut the cover away. but even though the cover is removed, the motors still get very hot. im really good at flying it, and im 13. its alot easier to fly than the firebird scout, too. its so stable i can bounce off of walls and keep flying. but sometimes either one or both motors will suddenly cut out , causing it to spin very fast or plummet to the ground. does this happen to anyone elses?
