I HAVE A ZENOAH GT80 AND AM INSTALLING A B&B SMOKE SYSTEM THE SYSTEM OPERATES ON CRANKCASE PULSE. HAS ANYONE HAD EXPERIENCE WITH TAPPING INTO THE CARB PULSE LINE, OR DO I HAVE TO DRILL THE CRANKCASE TO TAP IN, IF SO DOES ANYONE KNOW THE BEST PLACE TO TAP THE CASE

Call B&B, that's what I did. Have the Engine in front of you. The guy will take you step by step through the process.

I went through this issue wuth Horizon about a year ago. The response I got, and I also saw it published in "Model Airplane News", is to simply put a "T" fitting in the pressure line that goes to the carb. One 'leg' of the "T" goes to the carb, the other goes to the B&B smoke pump.

I tried it, it seems to work pretty well. While waiting for a reply, I went ahead and tapped the case anyway. I tapped the flange of the cylinder-base wher eit mates with the crankcase...... had to use a B&B 90-degree tap to allow for muffler clearance, but other than that it seems to work well too.

Which way did I go with? Well, since I had already tapped the case I figured that I'd go with that set-up.... but like I said, I did try the "T" fitting method and it does work..... and it's a lot easier and less risky to do!!

Cheers,
BJH

I'll tell you how to do it for a G-62 and you can probably transfer the instructions over to the 80.

1 remove the Jug (cylinder head)

2 Look at the bottom casing, there is an area just in front of one of the rear head bolts that is thicker than the rest (About 3/8"

3 drill and tap that location. (Put a rag inside the housing to keep chips out)

4 The cylinder wall (Sleeve) will cover that hole when it is reassembled, so you must grind a slight divot into the outside of the sleeve so that air can pass between the sleeve and the tapped hole.

I hope this helps

Thanks for the info, I think I will try the tee first as it is alot simpler to do, I just got off the phone with Dick ai B&B and he seems to think it will work fine as long as the pump is not to far from the carb. I will let you know how it works;
