I have a friend with a Super Nova and he loves it and I like the way it works. I bought the Super Turbo and do not like it as much, maybe some of you could answer this question:

The Super Nova programming asks you to put in the amount of cells, and the capacity of the pack, then the charging rates you prefer. The Super Turbo just asks to put in the charging rates, and says nothing about the amount of cells. This means you could have a 5 cell pack, and 1 cell is bad, it will still charge the pack like it was a 4 cell. Does the Super Nova look at the voltage referring to the amount of cells, or is that just a "label" that you put in the display for convenience?

Thanks,
Anthony

Setting the number of cells in the SuperNova programming probably establishes the cut off peak. If you set it for 8 cells and then connect a 6 cell pack it will charge normally. So your concern is valid - if one did not look at the voltage display during and after charge you could have a pack with one or more bad cells and you wouldn't know it. On discharge however, it would show up very quickly, try discharging a 6 cell pack when the number of cells is set to 8 and you will get a very early cut off as the 0.9 volts/cell is reached quickly.

The SuperTurbo apparantly senses the pack voltage at varioius times and from that sets up its own cut off levels. Making it very easy to miss a bad cell - except for the voltages displayed should give us a clue.

The more cells in a pack the greater the chance of missing a bad one.

I am having the same dilemma- can't decide which one to get! The Pb charging on the supernova is something I would like to have. But, I'm all ears if someone has actual reasons why one is better than the other.
