what do you mean by castor? Do you mean not a steerable wheel, but a free floating (so to speak) wheel?

Yes, Babsen, like a castor on a chair. It will pivot but the rudder will do the steering. Mine works well.

A friend suggested a way to make a steerable tail-wheel for the Corsair without too much trouble. You buy one of those tail-wheel kits where you bent the wire horizonal to the rudder EXCEPT you don't bend it. You install the pivot mount directly beneath the rudder hinge, run the wheel wire vertically through the fuselage, then bend it to attach to the rudder or clamp it under the clevis backplate. I might do that IF I have to make another Corsair.

OK I need help bad and fast!!!!

I decided to go with an OS fp .25 on my Corsair.
I added landing gear and a steerable tail rudder and castor wheel to the new one and when I went to balance, It is TAIL heavy. And hugely. I need to add about 6 oz of weight to balance this sucker. What is going on?
Now I had another Corsair that I put a OS .15 CV but crashed.... On this one, I actually had to add weight to the tail to balance properly. But I did not have landing gear or an extra rudder servo.

For those of you that have added landing gear and rudder functionality with a .25 on it, how much weight are you adding to balance.

Any help appreciated.....

babenson,
Mine balanced perfectly by placing the 4 cell receiver battery on top of fuel tank! It wasn't easy to get it there with the foam on it, but it will go.
I didn't have to add any weight!

babenson,

Though I used a .30 4 stroke, I had to cut a piece of webbing out of the bulkhead ahead of the wing mount so I could place my battey pack in the tank area. I added maybe an ounce if that much of lead to the firewall to balance it. I guess that extra servo is enough to mess with the CG.

How hard would it be to use a 2 stroke 25 size on this plane but install it up right. Will the cutout on the right side of the plane (looking at it from the front) show after the cowl and would I have to cut a new one on the left side or could I just use an muff extinsion?

kona,

The muffler for a 2 stroke is different than on the 4 stroke. The factory cut out is made for an inverted engine but if you have a custom muffler set up, go for it. The beauty of the sport is that it is only limited by imagination and ingenuity.

Let us know how it comes out.

cochinito77,

The plane is made light for combat and combat is flown at 'subsonic' speeds. If you do power it with a .46, there are areas you might strengthen or replace with heavier materials. I would think the rudder and horizonal stabilizer might not handle the stresses of such over-powering. Appropriate servos will be needed for the additional stresses.

Again, if that's what lights your fire, make sure your plane is safe and doesn't become a weapon.

OK babenson, here are the pics for you. I don't know what else to tell ya. I'm surprised even ARF Guy had to add weight with his .30 size 4 stroke!

konatiki, why do you want to mount the .25 upright? If it's just for easier access to the glow plug you can relocate it to the top of the plane with this. (see link)
