OK My corsair is ready to roll. Literally, I added langind gear per this thread and a castor on the back. I am running an os .25 fp and an 9/6 prop. Tomorrow looks to be perfect weather for its maiden, I'll let you all know how it goes.
Any advice for taking off with landing gear on this bird, I would REALLY appreciate it. -B

babenson,
Great and good luck. You'll just have to learn steering on the ground with rudder only. No big deal, I have more luck without holding UP in while I taxi. It makes the rudder more effective at least on our dirty runway. If you can fly a low wing sport plane you can fly this plane. Mine behaved very well the first flight and I greased the landing. No tip stalling and slows down nice. Go a couple mistakes high and throttle back and stall it just to see how it acts. Mine just drops ahead without any wings dropping.
WARNING! The plane gets little quickly! It ain't big in the first place! Also, gray and clowdy days make it tough for me to see it. Other than that, it's been one of my favorite planes. Lots of comments at the field!

Forgot about taking off! You have tail-dragger experience? If so, no problem. I line up and advance the throttle fully without hesitation. The rudder is effective and just requires minor bumps to keep it tracking straight. I climb out fairly shallow for scale effect mostly but I fly at 5500' and like the plane to have a comfortable flying speed before turning. Climbs out very strong and looks really scale.

Thanks ARF guy I have actually had another GR Combar Corsair but it torque rolled on its third flight from hand launch. I literally almost lost my cookies I was so upset. I spent "quality" time building and had it perfect.
I fly low wing tail draggers all the time I am just not a fan of them. I like trike because of th eground authority but I'll follow your advice.

Well I did not get it in the air this weekend, (I got grounded at the airfield because I forgot my AMA card....OHHHH boy!) I'll try again next weekend. But with the extra time on my hands I did put together a steerable tail wheel. And per previous posts, I would not recommend anyone try it after the fact. I had to first remove the vert stabb which was a feat of pulling and tuggin and bending until the glue finally gave way. Not the smartes thing I have ever done, but I did manage to get it free. From there, I followed some of the instructions on this thread and put a plastic tube in with some thin piano wire. PERFECT!! I would recommend this to anyone modifying their corsair with gear BEFORE they assemble but not after. I really like it and the added authority with tracking is very nice. I'll take some pictures (I keep forgetting todo that) and show everyone how I did it (bothe the landing gear and they steerable tail wheel.).
I'll try to get her off the ground next weekend, until then......Ughhhh its monday again isn't it!
I previously post few comment (end of October, page 7) concerning the GP P51. I finally finish all the modification on the airplane. After the first maiden flight, the cheap covering come off on wing tip, I lost one aileron (broken hinge), crack the elevator (to much stress)…. I decide to cover the plane with Ultracote, reinforce the stab with to 3/32” carbon fiber rod, and add 3/32” balsa sheet on all the stab and rudder. I install a tail wheel (not control) and landing gear on the wing. Reinforce the firewall, the wing center….. A lot a small modifications to reinforce and give some stiffness to the airframe. Finally, I will test the setup this weekend…. Always the same engine OS.32 with a APC 9X8. I have a lot of prop to put under test 8x7, 8x8, 8x9, 9x7 and 9x8. Lookin' good. Does anyone have some close up shots of their landing gear mods? Particularly helpful would be some close up pictures of the mounts under the covers for the wing gear. I have read about 3 diff ways to do this but it would be great to see some shots and more importanly hear how they are holding up. Thanks in advance

babensen,
I've described how I installed gear in previous posts and after the first couple of flights where I hadn't used enough epoxy the blocks worked loose. I've had about 50 flights AND landings including a fun fly spot landing competition where the landings weren't quite so slick and no damage. Stubbed it in hard enough to bend the 1/8 wire! All landing have been on a dirt field and not always the smoothest part.

Mine are drenched in 5 min epoxy. I hope it holds up as I am going to be taking off and landing on a grass field with some bumps and bruises ..... I think that pixs would still be helpful but you did a great job explaining.

Thanks ARF. I have been told that with the .25 fp on the end of my corsair, that it is going to be a dog. now this comes from rcgroups. Any thougts, I thought it was fast as hell with my .15 CV on it so I am excited about th eperfromance with a .25. Thanks again as always.

Fast is a relative term. I fly mine with a .30 4 stroke and it looks scale. Scale warbird flying scale, ain't that what it's all about? There are always those who want to bolt a small block V-8 on on a .25 size plane but they don't have planes very long and what enjoyment can there be trying to keep up with a plane approaching Warp Factor? Enjoy your plane for YOUR flying and what you expect to get from it I really don't care if the other guy's plane is faster, my satisfaction comes when everyone else sits down to watch ME fly rather than fly themselves. My planes look like real aircraft flying at realistic speeds. Ever see a real
