Baz,
I prefer the MA 10x4 on the OS.25FX (muffler baffle removed, 10% - 15% nitro). However, most folks tend to run 9x4 props on this engine.

BlackIre,
Try setting your ailerons UP about 3/32" when at neutral. This effectively adds washout and really helps to tame tip stalling.

HTH,
D

Got one. Picked it up last week. I first saw these at my local flying field (Ft Bend County, near Houston TX). I saw this little plane on the ground and didn't really pay much attention to it. Then I saw it fly! The guy flying it had a, get this, Super Tigre .40 in it. It absolutely ripped. So of course, i had to have one. I have a ST 40 I am borrowing from a buddy. I am putting wire landing gear, a rudder and steerable tail wheel. I have it about halfway finished. I expect to fly it in about two weeks or so. I will add some pics later. I have really enjoyed reading about all of the changes and adjustments you guys are making.

Adding some pictures:

I have completed the LG. I also added the rudder, and I made it look kind of scale. It was a bit of a challenge to get the tail wheel wire installed, but I think it turned out nice. Should be done in a few more days. I also added yellow strips underneath the wings; the guy at my field said he had to put something on there so that he could keep track of it.

Looks good Tex and the yellow doesn't hurt scale. A lot of different squadrons used yellow markings.

Enjoy!

My Corsair firewall has close to 4 degrees of right thrust built into it. Is this correct or is my firewall extrmely crooked?

I've just read through this thread, I have just finished the GP Corsair with the rudder mod and an OS .25 LA. My question is what would be some suggested props for a first flight? My thoughts would be a 9x6 2 blade or and 8x6 three blade. I would love some feedback on this, I plan to run it in all week and fly her on Saturday. Thanks Very much for your help.

I just maidened mine with a ST .40 and a 10x6 prop. It screams. The only problem is that the thing can only stay in the air for about 5 minutes before it runs out of fuel. I need more! I might end up putting a little .25 or .30 in it. I landed it pretty hot, and let it run out. I haven't really been brave enough to slow it down too much on an approach. This thing might be really fun with flaperons. Anybody try them?

BTW

Jaycam, that would probably be fine.

Glowplug, you are correct, it has a ton of right thrust. ANd it really needs it. On takeoff, mine is really squirelly. But very, very fun. If you are going to put LG on it, make sure that they are pretty wide, and that you good with the rudder, and that you have a good amount of width for your runway.

Thanks for the replies. The angle looks excessive but I will go with it. I am putting and OS 32sx in mine and with just a small amount of carving in the F2 bulkhead, a Hayes 6 ounce tank slides right in. 30% more fuel capacityy
I am also replacing the elev pushrod with a solid 2/56 wire and a new outer housing. I am installing 2 of these as I am running 2 elev servos. I am going to instal the rudder servo in the original throttle servo hole and cut another hole in the servo tray for a sub micro servo for throttle. I hope the sub micro will hold up to the vibration from the engine. My original impression of this arf was great but the more I handle it the the more distressed I am about the covering. Its lipping up all over the place and it is cut too short on most of the edges to iron down without fear of it pulling away even more.

Yeah, finally I bought another after mid air collision I've had with first one. I was very satisfied with the first, but can't tell the same for the second one. Construction is less precise, she is climbing with speed up, covering is worse... Still she's a good one to have...

my plane's tip stall seems to be fixed after lowering the battery 1/4 to 1/2 inch. I finally get some performance! You really have to land this thing on smooth ground though or she will flip, loosening or breaking the rudder. The up and down action is totally incredible. I am not satisfied with the aileron speed though. This plane seems to turn very sluggishly. I have the futaba servos and i know the Hitec hi 81 metal servos are way faster. Perhaps theres just not enough aileron though.

Borisp,
I find that interesting. I find that even on low rates, I get really good aileron response. On high rates its probably 3 rolls per sec. I am using an 800mAh pack, which is pretty heavy for this size plane. I originally tried to install it next to the Rx as in the plans, but with a ST 40 it was WAY too nose-heavy. I moved it back behind the servos, underneath the control rods, and stabilized it with some foam. I might go with a smaller pack, and a smaller engine to lighten it up. As far as the Vertical stab goes, i have literally flipped it up on its back when I hit a rut on ladning, and there wasn't a scratch on it. However, I did toss the original rudder and scratch built one myself, so its probably a bit stronger.

Unfortunately last night I had to dead stick it in , again, and broke one of the LG wires. However, there was a guy at the field who suggested that I bend the LG wires forward so that the axles were a little ahead of the LE of the wing. That might help a bit with handlin; she's a bit twitchy on the ground.

What's up Tony. Jim here. The guy with the PZ Focke Wulf. Good luck with the Corsair. Hope the advice you received works out for ya.

I have my Corsair almost ready to paint. I stripped all the covering off, and glassed the fuse. Covered the wings with Sig Coverall. I'm going to electrocute mine though. Should see some longer flight times too with the e setup. I plan to hand launch. Since it is going to land on it's belly, I moved the aileron servos to the top of the wing. I think this plane was designed to land on its belly, and so it will. The FG re-inforced belly pan should be plenty strong now. I will know in a week or two. I'll post up if anybody is curious how it goes.
