My new Dago Red drops its nose if I pull full up elevator coming around No.1 pylon. I was flying it up high and it was dropping 20' or more coming out of No.1

If I took it easy on the elevator, it didn't pitch up or down at all in the turn - only when I hit full up. It was not slowing down, just dropping the nose.

Any comments on what I can do to keep it tracking level in the turn with full up would be appreciated.

Hi Joe, how much elevator surface deflection do you have there on the elevator when you pull full up on the stick?

Joe,

u may want to add some tip weight to up high wing to try and keep it level around the turns...or even take some off of the low wing if u have some on there already..

just a sugestion

Thanks for comments - they are most appreciated.

Bill - there is 1/4" up and down on full elevator travel.

I think the center of gravity is about right because it flies like it is on rails, except for dropping the nose coming out of a hard turn around No. 1

I'm guessin you have too much elevator throw which is causing it to drop its nose. My Dago needed about 1/8" to make nice consistent turns.

Joe, yup thats to much throw.

The way I set my elev throw is to practice/test in turns 2 & 3 and make small adjustments to get that perfect turn at the full aft stick position,,, turns to tight and cuts Pylon 3-dial back the elev,,, turns to wide at 3-up the elev percentage rate.

Bill,
I belong to the KAMS club on the southern edge of Perth, about a 40 minute drive from the city centre.

We have one the best pylon racing fields in Australia. Our field is a watered and mown oval about 180m long x 140m wide so that we can land from just about any direction. And the trees are so far away that I've never seen anyone hit a tree here.

We hosted the pylon events for the Nationals last year. It was a national team selection event so we had the best pilots in the country (except Chris Callow) attending in order to gain points for national team selection. It was impressive seeing F3D models doing 4km in 58 seconds.

Joe,

I received an email from a friend with more thoughts on this.

His thoughts were that a nose heavy plane can cause the nose to tuck also, and if you are nose heavy, you may need as much as a 1/4" of throw to turn the plane. Please double check your C.G. and add a little tip weight to the top (right) wing and see if that helps.
