I have a .60 size P-51 waiting for its maiden flight and all I can think about is my F-27!!! Behold the Red Baron reborn!!!!! Woooohooooo!!!!

Very sharp! So that's what you do with old Slow Stick stickers.

What did you use for paint? I tried Krylon and it didn't stick. Then I tried waterbased Bulls Eye primer with Faskolor on top covered with spray lacquer. That has held up moderately well, but still not great.

I used Krylon Fusion paint for plastics. It sticks reasonably well considering that nothing sticks to epp well, but tape or sticker removal WILL still remove underlying paint. It is the best I have found so far... coats well, remains flexible, and it looks amazing. . Just be careful not to put on too many coats or it will get heavy fast! 2 coats is all you really need, and that will look like 6 coats of normal paint.

when mounting the the Mega Motor 16/15/4 did you find the motor mount holes were the same size as the supplied motor or did you have to mod the motor mount to fit the motor also are the scews the same size if not were do i get some.

Has anyone glassed there Stryker to make it more durable and easier to paint? Did it work well?
I looks as if it may be a bit of a challenge

Foam crusher,
I'm building with a 4s1p 3100 by polyquest, it's only a tad heaver then 2s1p 4400 I run in brushed version. I'm running 16/25/4 with Graupner 7X7 cam speed prop. On 44's I was pulling 34 amps with a 7X6 Mas 3 blade, and 39 with Mas 7X7 3 blade. Both at WOT.
Pack was cool on 7X6, got warm on 7X7, 7X6 was definitly faster, but 7X7 had all kinds of thrust.
7X6 pushed 29 oz. thrust on scale. Will need to check 7X7's specs. But that's real world vs cyber.
And on a cheap brushed version.

The Mega is a little larger in diameter than the Speed 400, so you have to do a little cutting. First you cut both rings through at the top so the motor will slide in. Then you may have to redrill or enlarge the motor mount holes on the plate so the holes in the motor line up. I had to do that on one of the two motor mounts I have used. Finally, after bolting up the motor, take some plastic strapping or carbon fiber tape and form a 1/2 circle on top of the motor mount rings across where you cut them. Glue these braces in place (it is easier to do with the motor in place) and it will be rock solid. Some people just run two releatively large zip ties around the motor and through the foam, but those look ugly IMO.

When using the Mega, you will want to put some reenforcement under the motor mount to spread the load in the event of a crash. I have used bidirectional strapping tape on one plane and very thin birch ply from a craft store on another. Don't skimp. Make the reenforcement cover about a 4" square area under the mount, or the first hard crash where you don't get off the throttle quickly enough the motor will tear the back of the plane off. It can be repaired with Shoo Goo or the like, but it will not look great.

I wouldn't use Shoo Goo on a Stryker fuse. My experience is that it makes the foam soft. I went from a Superflea to a Stryker and I thought they were both EPP but they are different. The Superflea EPP took to the Shoo Goo without a problem but the Stryker EPP became soft and soggy after the Shoo Goo cured. Just my $.02

Only two and they wer to show my experiment with larger elevons in order to get a faster roll rate. It turns out they were too big and the plane became almost uncontrollable, even with loads of expo dialed in,

I think you can see the reinforced area around the motor and some tape that was added under the motor. The area was painted the same time the fuse was painted so look for what appears to be panel lines. This area was not large enough and it ripped out. That plane was just glued back together without a motor mount and will be used as a sloper.
One pix is with primer only and the other is with the final yellow paint job.

Flying Scotsman,

This is how I mounted my motor:

-Cut thru the top of the front ring of the motor mount (I left the front ring alone at this point and put the stock cover back
on after I was finished with the mount...you can remove the ring if you want to I guess)
-Sanded and gently trimmed the inside of the motor mount ring that has the motor mount screw holes until a slip fit was
obtained with the mega motor (it doesn't take much)
-Mount the motor with screws thru the stock mount holes and/or drill a hole sideways thru the center of the mount under
the motor and secure with a narrow strip of foam and a nylon tie. Make sure you turn the nylon tie so that the ratchet
part is almost under the motor (for good looks)
-As a last measure, I drilled a one quarter inch hole straight thru the fuselage lengthwise under the motor mount and
glued in a 6 inch carbon fiber tube.

That's it! Works like a charm and I've never experienced any problems.

I just finished my scratch build "Mini Stryker". It has the following setup:

Mega 16/15/4
TP 3S1P 2100mAh
CC 25
APC 6x4 or 5x5
AUW 19 oz (which includes 3 oz. of counter weights)
GWS Pico Servos
1.5" balsa elevons
CA hinges

Foam came from Home Depot...1" pink foamular which appears to be identical to Depron only much thicker and by a different manufacturer. I simply whittled and sanded to achieve the airfoil shape.
The Nerf missle underneath is for hand launching. I was going to make a fin but found one of my son's nerf missles.
I'm not quite sure where the COG is but I set it proportional to where the Stryker COG is. We'll see as soon as the weather improves. At least if I destroy it, I know exactly how to make a new fuse. Here's some pics.... (also posted on the "F27 Stryker" thread.
