Hey Bob:
What do you mean Graphtech can't help?
They've got like a zillion different gears. It doesn't have to be identical to the Wildhare in dimensions. Just get the fuse width about the same, and the leg spread (ooh ooh) about the same. I'm using a H9 Cap33% gear on mine.

You're correct, but are we really trying for true scale.

Here's a thought if you're willing to expend a little time and elbow grease. Take the stock set of gear you now have and round the leading and trailing edges with a file. Sand the filings with various grades of wet or dry paper until the majority of the scratches are gone. Sand the main body of the gear with 600 wet or dry paper, then go to an auto paint store to get some 1200 and 2000 wet or dry paper. Sand some more (wet) until about 95% of the scratches are gone. Now polish with super fine rubbung compound of a gree rough solution. Rounding the edges makes the gear stronger. The overall finishing process lightens the gear and it looks super cool.

Yea, I know, that's a lot of work, but it doesn't take anywhere near as long as it sounds. Only a couple of hours at the outside.

Pat

You would think that someone made a CF gear for this plane.
Silversurfer
I have a cf spinner and a mejzik prop I would like the looks and performance of cf gear.
But it loks as if I'm stuck with your suggestion.

T.Bob, Tom sells a fiberglass gear for the 35% Extra. I've got one and it weighs 1/2 pound less that the stock aluminum gear (yeah, you KNOW I'm mad at that! ). Carbon fiber is more brittle than fiberglass, and most of the carbon fiber gear that I've heard about for large planes can delaminate in every day use during not so hard landings. Im thinking fiberglass has a bit more "give" and therefore is more friendly when you're thinking of getting several hundred landings. I just installed it on my bird, so I'll find out about the durability this coming season.

It comes painted white, so you won't have the look of carbon fiber, but other than that, there is no downside.

I have the FG gear from Wilhare. Have been using it on my Wildhare 540. Holds up great. I have CF gear on another plane, and believe it or not the CF gear, while not exactly the same size as the FG gear (It is close), actually is slightly heaveir ( just a few ounces).

Get the FG gear, can't go wrong.

My Graph Tech gear delaminated this weekend and I've had not one hard landing. I've got to call them to see what there going to do about it.
