Merry Christmas everyone!!! Well I got an XRB SR and am hoping to get some fly time in asap(hopefully once the battery is done charging)....It looks really great! Quick question but im going to go in the beginning to check this out because i dont think it was mentioned...Does the battery come discharged? or y plugging in the battery to the charger does it discharge it first if need be then charge it? Thanks,

    Wildjones,
When I got my XRB, the first thing I did was charge the battery until the green light went on. I have flown it an average of 5 times a day for just over one month. Everytime my copter started to loss significant power (about 14-16min of not continuous flight time) I'd land it and let the battery cool off for about 5 min. Then I'd charge it. Hope this helps. Hank

Thanks, I just charged it right off the bat figuring thats what i should do because they didnt specify. Well I have gotten 3 flights in and am about 5 minutes from my 4 th flight... I know they say not to tune your heli until you feel comfortable with it but I am really tempted to start messing around with it lol...So far i have noticed this about my XRB:
    A) It likes to turn to the right when hovering-I fixed this by using the trim on the radio and noticed that its a bit better higher in there air, I think when its lower it gets its own rotor backwash, but thats just my theory
    B) It likes to slide to the left when I let go of the sticks-For now i just used the trim on the radio again but will check it out after installing the new paddles and I track the blades.
    C) The blades are a tad bit off tracked but not really too bad-I can live with it like that for now. It doesnt wobble terribly so Ill just deal
    D) Its VERY stable or more stable than other helis that I have seen in action and its not even set up to its full potential.
    E) Its takes a beating quite nicely-I got a draft of wind from a window (its was very stormy today) and got blown a tad but towards a wall and I was flying with the Heli facing towards me so i messed up when trying to keep it away from the wall and cut the throttle. The XRB tmbled onto a small couch in the entryway rolled and landed (I am using the training gear and have bounced on the gear alot, a few times really hard). Nothing broke thank goodness.

I fly my XRB in the entry hallway and its about 15 feet long and 10 feet wide with an 8 foot ceiling until the ceiling opens to reveal the second floor where i have about 16 feet to go up (sorry i dont know how to describe this very well), because of the small space i havent really experimented with fast forward flight but i have noticed that when going forward you need to give it a bit more throotle to keep the heli level.

I feel comfortable flying my XRB at about waist height but not much more because I feel i cannot control it very well and with the cockpit facing forward and me standing behind. I need to work on flying it facing towards me but I just cant react fast enough to make the corrections to its flight path. Also I have a hanging light from the roof of the house that lowers toward the open section of the 1st flower ceiling and i am nervous that i might catch a blade or two on the light.

Oh yeah on my second flight my transmitter made a pop noise quite loud. It was at the end of the barttery and i had the throttle stick as high as i could go but the heli was only about an inch off the ground and then it made the pop noise which scared the bejeebers out of me and I lost control of the heli. Anyone have a similar experience? It works still but it just seemed a bit weird to me. If you have any ideas of what might have happened it would be muxh appreciated. Thanks!

I love my XRB and am so happy i got this!
    Michael

Okay so far I have flown about 7 flights and earlier today I decided to do some tuning on my XRB. First off i wanted to fix my rudder control because i figured it would be a good place to start after I had balancd my blades. Ok so heres what I noticed and I am thoroughly confused. On page 21 it explains how to adjust the rudder. It says that when the flying unit turns to the right the LED should be green and when it turns to the left it should be red. Now on my XRB when it turns to the right the LED is red and when it tuns to the left it is green.Do you have any ideas? I am very confused and need some help! Also I think i figured out what that pop on my transmitter was. Earlier today i heard a fizzling in the transmitter and noticed the battery light was off. I managed to land my xrb somehow and opened the battery compartment of the remote. I found an exploded battery. I cleaned oput the compartment but havent done any tuning because the light problem is just very confusing and I decided i would ask some help from you guys. Thanks in advance!

Not sure but when they're talking about turning left and right, that's the nose they're talking about. I'll check mine to make sure. Bad batt is a bummer. Do you have a conventional plane transmitter ?

After reading the manual for the 131st time....I finally stumbled across the "fix" to the right/left walking problem that people experience in forward flight.

Turn to page 21 in the manual. And look at the bottom.

Too much pitch in the blades will result in the helicopter turning one direction faster than the other, and cause the helicopter to sideslip in forward flight...

I cranked the pitch up on mine....and sure enough. It wants to walk all over the place. Lower the pitch down, and adjust the gyro...and it should fly straight.

The inst. is correct. go by the nose of the chopper. Also learning is much easier if you watch the nose and ignore the tail. When the rudder is given right, the nose turns right.

Yeah I am going from the nose of the heli...It just looks like my lights are backwards for whatever reason...Whatever Ill figure this out by tweaking it and maybe ill just have to do the opposite of the fix that the manaul suggests? I ll post later and let you guys know...

If the giro is working in the right direction I wouldnt worry about it. Maybe whoever wired it up was colour blind By the way, I put navigation lights on mine so when it gets 50 or 75 ft. away I can tell which end is which.

    My question is this ...

Which training heli is a better product this one or the blade CX ?? I have a blade Cp but have never flown anything nevermind a heli and got the cp tracked adjusted and hovering and out of the blue catastrophic crash ( flybar, blade grip and main shaft) so I am thinking of getting something to learn the basics on first so I can keep the CP for when I can handle it thanks Mike

No clue on the Blade CX. Personally I would search the forums and see what people say about the Blade CX. I searched the forums for the XRB and haven't seen anything said against it. Seems like everyone agrees that Hirobo's quality is held through to the XRB SR and that its a great heli for beginners. See what you can turn up for the Blade and compare it to the XRB. Also if price plays out on your decision remember that the cheaper helis arent always that great of quality, reliability, handling...

so i just thought i would add more to the XRB section... i just bought mine used for an excelent price but did not get the manual i am completly new to heli's and when i fly my XRB it wants to keep spinning to the left i thought it had a balance issue (because the tail section was kinda broke) but it started to do it again... this thing is SOOOOO cool!! i have broken over 7 blades but it was all my fault for not tuning it correctly... i have not weighted the blades at all im not sure how to... i marked them and tried to see if it looked as one or two blades and i guess it looks like 1.. also for the people that said they would let us know how the carbon blades are... well how are they!! did anyone find maybe some springform blades? what is the best place to get replacement parts... are there any upgrades available?? any more cool mods that people have done? i think this thread has been pretty good it is what made me decide to buy mine!! anyway i was just looking for some ideas to make my XRB even better!

I had exactly the same problems and was totally confused by the manual at first, and quite frankly went down the wrong path.
What I did was hold the heli in one hand with three fingers on the battery. I gave it just a bit more power than required. The heli was trying to MOVE to the right NOT TURN. That was my clue. As I had been fiddeling with settings, while still holding it I adjusted the FWD/BCK---L/R
then shut down and adjusted the pitch. Now the LED's flash as per the manual and all I needed to do was fine tune on the Transmitter.
I am still only on the hover/landing phase but getting more confident. I find I must get the craft up fast otherwise the "ground effect" plays havoc.
I tried balancing the blades but gave it up as a bad job. I found that static either from my hands or what just messed up my efforts. Any ideas other than getting anti static pads etc.

    Hi All

Hope you can make room for a newbie Limey. I got my Hirobo XRB SR for Xmas and am having great fun. I have also found this thread really helpful and thanks to Bdavidson for getting it started with great info. Loved the video and am off to my local hall later today to try and emulate some of the moves

I emailed Rick from his website and got a reply within a couple of hours. I ordered the 850mah lipo and extension lead at approx. midday GMT 12/27/05 and the package arrived on my doorstep in the UK at 9.00am GMT on Friday 12/30/05. You don't get a better service than that!

The 850mah should give slightly longer flight times (so watch for hot motors) of about 18%. It is 3 wired so will work with the original charger but will also take slightly longer to charge. It is also a slightly tighter fit in the battery holder than the original Hirobo pack which is a real plus. This stops the tendency for the battery to work backwards in use upsetting the C of G. With the extension lead I don't have to keep removing the canopy to change/charge the battery

Rick supplies a top product at a great price and is a pleasure to deal with. Try: Rick Knapp rickyblaze@bluemarble.net works for me.

    Regards to all

    Tom

Hi Tom, I live up in Scotland. Did you order from the States? That delivery is absolutely amazing!
I am getting tired of removing the canopy every time for charging. Such a fidly thing.
Rick has some great tips on his web site.
Seems the XRB clan is growing and it is great to be able to hear prob/solutions etc.
    This forum is great.

    Hi AL

Yes ordered from Rick Knapp in the States, arrived on my doorstep 69 hours later

In fairness Rick advised it may take a few days or up to 2 weeks depending how the postal services were feeling either side of the pond. Guess I got lucky that they were both in a good mood

The new 850mah is better than the original ($27 about £16.00 through Paypal shipping included) and half the price of "official replacements" here in the UK. Small jiffy bag marked "Toy parts" skipped through Customs so no import tax, VAT or delay. Probably due to small size and low value.

May well order another and keep the original as a stand by. Also the knatty little hearsink kit at just $7.

I cut the connector wire between the batt. and the chopper and put a Micro deans plug in between so now it plugs in outside of the canopy. I charge it with the Triton. If you do this, cut the wires individually so as not to short out the batt.
