Those Topflite props spin about 1000 rmps less then the same size APC. I don't get it as they are a lot lighter. I tried an 18x6 on my OS 160 and that was the case (as opposed to APC 18x6W) and the power was considerably less.

I was back out at the field flying today and have a gallon run through it now. Much stronger and I leaned out the low end quite a bit. The idle is rock solid, I can let it idle for a few minutes and come back and hit the throttle and it takes right off. I have the idle set at 1,800. I am very impressed with how well this engine is running. Here are my new numbers with the same stats as in my above post...

Xoar Sword 18x8........8,000 rpm (pulls like a mule with this prop)

TF Powerpoint 18x8........7,810 rpm

22 x 8 ??? WOW that's a huge prop. Is that a mistype? Did you by any chance get to measure the thrust? I'm looking for a good wood prop that pulls hard with this engine and haven't found one yet. I would love to have the power of (or more) an APC 18X6W with the spool up of a wood prop.

LOL I'll fix it. Had my DL-50 in my head or something.....as for good props they are very nice. Seem to be compared to a Vess. Here is their site.

That's good, I was about to throw my 1.60 in the garbage after I read the size of prop that yours would swing!

ok 160 fx trouble. i have a 160 with a perry pump.. it has always been a little hard to start (the first time) i have run apx 4 gallons of fuel 12.5% through it. it is mounted on the front of a funtana 90 swinging a 20-6 wood prop. i have run it super rich the whole time i have had it. today it lost power in flight and locked up.? after cooling it is free but somthing is wrong what do i need to replace and is the 20-6 too much prop? it has plenty of cowling cut out to cool it. and looks like the plane has a smoker on it leaving a trail while running.

Running slightly rich is more than enough because when you installed a Perry VP-30 about 200rpm from peak is good as it will not lean out in flight. OS-F glow plug seems to run great on large glow engines and I would install one of these to be sure. 20x6 is too much prop and will not give you what you need on a Funtana 90, try a APC 18x6w or wooden MenzS 18x6 prop. What fuel are you running in this engine?

The nitro content and the fuel is probably good as long as it contains some castor oil in the mix. With the Perry VP-30 the idle needle most be leaned more than with muffler pressure. An OS-F plug with a smaller prop and more leaned mixture and the main needle only about 200rpm from peak should make this engine run great and very reliable.

Sounds like you may have seized the engine or a bearing. Most likely the piston to the sleave. Only way to tell is to take it apart. May have been a combination of to much load (large prop) and or run too lean. I would guess it was running too lean but the deadsticks you had. I find this engine really unloads in the air and needs to be set richer on the ground than other engines I have had. Good luck with what you find, hopefully it won't be too costly.

Send it in to hobby services.

Did you tune the engine with a tach? What rpm was it spinning? What brand prop were you running? What muffler were you using? Why are you using a pump? My guess is you were running the engine at less than 7800 rpm and it was over heating.

I ran a Mejzlik 20X6 and APC 19X8 on mine with a large volume muffler for kicks to see if it could do it, however I have a working knowledge of this engine and never flew the engine without extensive ground testing. I recommend an APC 18X6 or APC 18X8 with a large volume tuned muffler.

ive had this problem also. me and another rcu member have this engine in our sundowners, and while this bird flies at nearly 130 mph with a 15x12 APC prop and 20-30% nitro, it does overheat after a few high speed passes, and runs VERY
