Could someone shoot me a close-up shot of their turbo supercharger installation on a Z P-38 so I can get a better idea of how it looks. I have older plans, and what I think are older ABS parts, as they look different than my last P-38 from Ziroli. A picture of the detail would aid in my assembly. Thx for any help.

I've been documenting the building of a Ziroli P-38 on a web site for some time. I have pictures of the turbochargers both pre-install and post install.

I used the fiberglass fuselages - if you are building the fuselages from balsa & ply, it may be different. There are different plans for the fiberglass fuselages. Took me a while to figure that out since they forgot to mail the plans when I ordered the fiberglass fuselages.

Any other questions, contact me.
Regards,
Larry Brannan

Jeff,

I couldn't find any close ups of the Ziroli. I hope this helps.

Look under the section that shows airline installation. There is a picture of the bottom side of the turbocharger where I filled in the plastic with balsa to provide a larger surface for glueing. There also is a picture of the fiberglass cover installed with the turbo charger painted.

I have additional pics and can email them to you also.

ABSOLUTELY. THE P-38 IS ALOT OF WORK. ITS TWICE AS SATISFYING WHEN THOSE BOOMS FINALLY LEAVE THE GROUND. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DUEL RECEIVERS AND COUNTERROTATING ENGINES. MY BUDDY FROM THE LONESTAR STATE RECOMMENDS GYRO'S. I'M CONCIDERING THEM MYSELF ON MY GIANT P-38. THIS AIRCRAFT HAS "P" FACTOR ALL OVER IT. JUST A THOUGHT.

STUKA BARRY.....The "Z" P-38 doesn't require the use of gyros and it flys fine on one engine if its powered correctly.... a number of the "warbird" twins dont transition to "single" eng operations well at all but the P-38 is exceptional..adding all that extra "stuff' is no guarantee on anything.......one battery pack and one reciever works fine....as you know "most" of the warbird problems are "pilot"related far more often than not...these planes demand more attention not only in building but flying as well....The P-38 is one of the best flying of all the twins that I've seen and flown.....Bill...

HEY BILL, WHILE YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT IN YOUR STATEMENT, YOU HAVE QUITE A BIT OF EXPERIENCE IN TWIN PILOTING. FOR THE BEGINNER OR NOVICE TWIN PILOT, MY SUGGESTIONS JUST MIGHT SAVE A $4000.00 AIRCRAFT FROM DESTRUCTION. I WAS RECENTLY SENT SEVERAL PICTURES OF A BEAUTIFUL P-38 THAT WAS A TOTAL LOSS ON THE FIRST FLIGHT. NOT REALLY KNOWING WHAT HAD HAPPENED, I CAN ONLY GUESS THAT AN ENGINE TORQUE ROLL, OR A RADIO FAILURE WAS THE CAUSE. MY SUGGESTIONS COULD HAVE SAVED THAT PLANE, BUT I DONT KNOW THE FACTS. AGAIN, THESE ARE JUST SUGGESTIONS. I WILL HAVE BOTH ON MY LARGE FORK TAILED DEVIL. PROBABLY GYRO'S ALSO. CANT AFFORD CHANCES WITH THAT MONSTER.

Stuka Barry.....What guarantee is there with or without a gyro that if you lose an engine that you can save the airplane?I'm not saying don't use equipment that helps...but I think its more "mentally" soothing to have a gyro than if by just having one that your airplane comes back home during an engine failure....I saw a friend of mine with a "Z" 102" B-25 lose an engine with Doc McCaulley flying it(Darn good pilot)....and he had one heckuva time with it and eventually it crashed landed with extensive damage....most of what I've seen is when an engine fails the other one takes the plane to the "Crash Site".....what really matters here is two things....When does the engine failure occur?....and what pilot skills do you have?...If an engine fails on T/O...or on a low pass.....reaction time is imperative.....If an engine fails up high at reduced power..then things look much better.....Warbird Twins with high wing loadings and marginally powered dont have a chance.....Power, Point of Eng failure and pilot skills make or break single engine flying.....Build a Pica duelist and put 300-400 flts on i
