Roadrunner1390 -> Rossi 53 DF Fuel. dir. say 15% Castor. most fuel have syn.blend what will run as sub? (9/13/2002 8:09:28 AM)

I have a Rossi 53 DF (never run) I think that it is about 8 yrs old or so. The directions say to run Rossi fuel. Well I dont live in god damn Italy and cant get the stuff. The directions say I can sub the Rossi fuel with somthing with 15% castor oil. The fuels now have some castor but also a blend of Synthetic ?? I am looking for a fuel to run in this. The application is for a Diamond Dust. I will run a prop on the DF motor.

HELP>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Yeah I know what you mean...I bought a Fox and it says to use Fox super fuel but I don't live in god damn America.
Luckily I know how to make my own fuel :)

I don't really know if it's the smartest idea to run a DF engine with a prop. They're designed to run in excess of 20,000 rpm, and unless you're running a super small prop (maybe 8x5?) you're likely not to get those kinds of revs... But then again it just may make your diamond dust the fastest little plane at the field.

You'll probably want to get some Sig Champion. It's got 20% oil content 50% of which is caster and the other 50% synthetic. I use this fuel as my primary break in fuel due to the fact that it has both higher oil content and caster content than most fuels.

BTW, does the Rossi DF recommend any nitro?

R.R.,

Simple solution; go to your local hobby shop, and pick up some Byron Originals LUBE BOOSTER.
It is made of de-gummed castor, and has the mixing ratio on the back of the bottle.
Also as an alternative, Sig sells straight castor oil in a quart bottle, been using the Sig for years, but my local hobby shop quit carrying it, and now sells the LUBE BOOSTER.
Hope this helps,

P.S. BE READY FOR MANY PROP EXPLOSIONS- or run you tuned pipe so it only revs to 15,000. Kind of defeats the purpose though, doesn't it?

I am running the pipe and will take the chance of the prop explosion. I feel the need for speed. I will let ya know when I throw the first prop off !!!

jettstarblue -> NEED FOR SPEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (10/22/2002 8:10:14 PM)

RoadRunner,

I HEAR YOU MAN!!!!
I built a negative aspect ratio "delta"? for the EXPRESS reason of going FAST.
I used a Fox .50 heli engine, with just a "stack" exaust, 25% nitro and if memory serves me right a 7X10 prop.
3lbs. and very, very, fast. Needless to say the engine did not last much longer after that, but it sure was fun!!
I have 23 acres to fly in, and it wasn't that it wouldn't turn around in that area, it's just that at that speed I was afraid to turn to quick for fear of a ballistic engine, and shrapnel everywhere!
I used to fly it in what the skaters call a "half pipe" pattern in the air, and when it went by at 10' AGL people would PAY ATTENTION!
SWEET!!!!!!!
Now that my adrenalin is flowing I will have to build another, this time with something that will REV.
In closing I don't have to tell you- make sure you aren't in the line of fire the first time that thing comes up on the pipe!
Good luck, and let us know what happens.

S W E E T D R E A M S O F S P E E D !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
