For anyone interested, I visited the Tri-State Warbird Museum in Cincinnati Oh last week. It has only been open for about 6 months. I am researching Corsairs to find some that I can photo so I can make my model as authentic as I can. I found that they had one and I asked if I could visit and photo/video it. I was greeted with open arms. Not only did they have an FG-1D, but also a P-51, TBD-3E, B-25, and a T-6. I could only upload 4 files so I could not include the P-51, but I will add it in the next msg.

Their webiste is: http://www.tri-statewarbirdmuseum.org/

rwright142, thanks for the link. I live in the Cincy area, and this is the first I've heard of them. It's good to see something like this so close to home.

You're quite welcome. They are actually in Batavia which is just outside of Cincy (I bet you knew that) and I live in Indianapolis so it is not far for me either. BTW, I used to live in Loveland so I knew the area. Get a hold of Paul Redlich, real nice guy and excellent host. Be sure you tell him where you got the information. He was the one who told me that they have only been open for 6 months, but it looks like they are not even officially open. Their website says opening this spring.

My next venture is to Danville, IL. There is a Warbird collector there named Butch Schroeder who also welcomed me to visit their airport to photo his warbirds. I'll post more pics when I get them. I hope to visit him this weekend. He has a P-47 that I want to model next.

Have a blast at the museum!

Richard

Thanks Richard. I have a some in-laws that live very near that airport. I've noticed planes flying near their neighborhood during visits. It'd be great to see that Corsair come tooling by one day.

Another nice little museum is the Tennessee Museum of Aviation, in Sevierville, just north of Pigeon Forge. They have two very nice P47's there. I got to watch one of the P47's taxi out and take off. I'm still kicking myself for leaving my video camera at the motel. The museum is small compared to places like the Air Force Museum, but nicely done.

I was at the AF museum several weeks ago. I also got to go to the base to see the presidential planes, the early experimentals, etc - very nice indeed.

Good to see that the George's sold the 25. I helped do some work on that beast. Let me tell you it is not alot of fun for a big guy to get up in the nose to put the floor in or have to hand crank oil up to the motors. Richard you should also check out the museum in Rantoul IL as well as the George's museum in Springfield IL. I don't remember what is at the Rantoul museum but the Georges have a great P-51, Corsair, AT-11, Extra 300, T-34, L19, 02A as well as many other aircraft. The great part about them is everything is flyable. Nothing worse then going to look at planes and know that they will never take to the air again .

Can you tell me more about the museums? Names, phone numbers, emails, etc? I'll search in the meantime.

It is nice to see them fly again, but I would like to see them authentic. It's just not the same seeing a P-51 with a GPS, color instruments, etc...

Thanks in advance.

You can email me if you'd prefer.

Another museum well worth visiting in TN, while not warbirds, is the Beech Staggerwing Museum.

Among other things they have are serial # 1, and the Travelair Mystery Ship with all the various wings (short for pylon work, long for distance races).

They also have several operational Staggerwings on display (of course) >including< one without any covering. Absolutely beautiful wood work in that airframe. Makes me want to hide my stuff. All the 'wings are still leaking, and except for the bare-bones airframe look to be flyable.

If you can manage it, the Staggerwing association holds a 1:1 fly-in every year, in the Fall I think. Nothing like hearing a whole gaggle of radials crank up when the group decides to hop over to some small field for one of those $100 'burgers.

The Staggerwing Museum is in Tullahoma, and from there you could visit Mr. Daniels little brewery, too.

That's in a dry county (it _is_ Tennessee, after all), so you don't get to sample the product.

Hi Tom. I know about Valparaiso (I live in Indianapolis) and had called them to see if I could visit and photo their F4U-5. They said anytime but that it was in Indianapolis getting serviced! I arranged to go and had a blast. I took about an hr of video and over 180 pic. Here are a few. I definitely want to go to see the others.

Pensacola is one that I definitely want to visit.

Also there is an event taking place June 3-5, 2005 in Bridegeport, Connecticut called the Corsairs Over Connecticut. I want to try to get to that too.

Thanks for the reply.

Definitely do. They are great people. They let me sit in the cockpit, and told me to 'make myself at home'... I was all wet from drool when I left there too!
