?? 55% Federal Tax Bracket? Are we back in 1979?

Jay Leno commented that Mexicans were going to India to look for American jobs. I have met a couple of very pleasant Indian female persons, to address that concern .

before you can apply for a work permit you have to already have to have an employer hire you in the US. an employer cannot give you a work permit you can only get the from the immigration and naturalization service. a work permit will only last for 2 years and after that it has to renew it whoever employs you has to sign forms to say that he is sponsoring you. I noticed someone mentioned immigrants get free health care from the likes of Medicaid andthat they get things like food stamps that is not true as an immigrant you are not entitled to things like that whatsoever. a lot of employers will not hire someone with as work permit unless you are working for a minimum wage. visa's, work permits and student visa's are now hard to get after 9/11. guess what the grass is not always greener on the other side. after all a franc is a franc a dollar is a dollar and a pound is a pound.
also to get work permits you need to have skills and also be looking for work in sectors where they find it hard to fill jobs. I'm sorry to say the industry you work in they can get people easy. my father in law is a program designer and does consulting work and he is finding it hart to get work. this is why you see so many immigrants doing the jobs no one else wants to do. i.e janitors and a lot of the dirty jobs working on a minimum wagege

pauluk2w,

While I tend to agree with you, especially regarding immigrants used to get the job done, I don't think that I could get compared to these guys. Actually I saw them working in the same company as I did (General Electric Healthcare), where they were used to do the 'easy' part of software development. No software architect there. No other skills than 'code writing' skills required for them by the way (no software design and no organization, management, scheduling tasks...), let alone field knowledge (i.e. aeronautics).
Here in France, employers feel the difference between externalization (contractors) and the guys who just know how to reach the goal (technical / org.). I also feel that our job is changing (as it used to change for electronics boards which were first designed and built in developped countries, but now in Asia), software development activities are slowly moving toward management tasks, which disappoints me. Is there still any room for technical experts ? Not sure. Well, we'll see in the long term, but all these underpaid guys are a real threat for jobs here and across the pond, they shouldn't be ignored. I have heard that these issues have been raised by some of your politicians. It's time to protect our industries / jobs, otherwise...

strykaas, I understand what you are saying and i can only advise you from personal experience with immigration. I was born and raised in england and so were my parents. I married my wife who is american a little over 2 years ago and know how difficult it is getting visa's and permits I think if you are thinking about working in the US then you first need to have an employer that will hire you and be your sponsor first. then you would have to goto the nearest US embassy and talk to them you could also look at the us department of immigration and naturalization website where you will be able to find all the information you need and you can also download all the forms you need. to file the paper work you will find it is not free I had to pay over $1700 just to apply then as i said there are medical fees as you have to have medicals and AIDS tests then you have to pay for the work permit (if i remember correctly)
