When I went to my local store I got this...

Me: Do you carry 2.5" square PVC gutter pipe or downspout
Clerk: No, all that we have is on the shelf there (points to the fluted stuff)
Me: Can you order some for me.
Clerk: Nope
Me: That's odd... it was on your web site...
Clerk: Oh... ask (owner/manager's name) to see if he can get it for you...

The owner/manager spent all of 2 minutes plugging it into his order terminal, an then told me it would be there in two days... and it was!

I didn't come in with a printout of that downspout page, if I did, I wouldn't have gotten the runaround from the first guy... it's hard for them to argue that you can't order a product that's on their website!

I got the same response from a clerk at my local Do It Best hardware store. Talked to the manager and he knew exactly what I was going to do with it before I even explained. Funny thing is I hardly ever see any spads at my flying field. But there is another one just down the road from the hardware store.

That exchange occurred about 4 months ago... I did get it and have built several SPADs with it already!

Like I said, the manager said it would be there in two days, and it was...

I ordered only two 10' sections of it...

Sure, if you want to drive to Emmaus, PA to get it... you should just call one of the four stores that you said were in your area and order it!

Drie's Doit Center
3580 Brookside Road
Emmaus, PA 18062
(610)966-5555

Like I said, there's a DoItBest store in Newark and Staten Island, both of which should be closer for you than hauling out here to PA. Hit that link I had in my previous post and plug in your zip code, pick the store most closest to you...

I did call but they didnt have it and I doubt very much they will order it. This the city, all personalities are different.

Why would I have to drive to PA all I will do is have him box it up and have feddex pick it up for me. If no too expensive.

Hi again, I completed the servo bays and beleive using the smaller cutting wheels is much faster than using the thicker cutting wheels. Also much more neat.

Fiend,
You should have gotten the Black ABS Pipe instead of that sch 40 PVC stuff. The Black ABS pipe is about 1/3 to 1/2 lighter with more rigidity and the same wall thickness. It is sold as DWV pipe (Drain Waste Vent).

Thanks, I made this post topic just for the reason you are telling me about the black pipe. If you posted sooner I may have bought some. Anyway some one else can benifit from the information. Do you have a pic of what yoyu are talking about ? this will help a new SPADER if he or she goes to look for some of the black pipe.

Today I found something else, I was working and came across a hardware store in a small town and asked for the 2 1/2" square vinly pvc and the guy said he didn't have anymore . I'm going to continue, while also trying other material to use for a fuse. Hopefully other people can benefit from the stuff I find.

Last weekend I tried to fly , but the engine wouldn't run properly due to low pressure and a crack in the back plate gasket.

I repaired the gasket and swiss cheesed the plane some more and also re-balanced...... Pic is of how it presently looks before todays flight.

Thanks Green, I couldn't get the thing to leave the ground. I think my .40 is finished. It just doesn't seem as powerful as it use to be. Tonight I will try to bring the weight down a little more and stabilize the nose gear . The way it is mounted now there is to much wobble when trying to ROG. I even had the flapperons down and it didn't break ground . I just laughed and put my trainer in the air to get my flying fix.

Any way after seeing a guy trying to fly a foamy electric in 10 mph winds was all I needed to make my day . . Poor guy threw it in the air 15 times only to get the same result. Oh well I guess he will learn like I did . .

I HAVE FOUND IT !

I came across a hardware store today and it had a DO IT BEST sign in the window . I wasn't going to stop and go in but I couldn't resist. So I got inside and didn't even see the aluminum downspout, which the store clerk called the 'leader pipe' . So then I asked the clerk for the vinly stuff and he went into the back to ask somebody if he could order some and then he cam back out and told me he could get the pipe , and it would cost me $14.00 . See I knew in due time I would prevail with out the all of the aggrevation of having someone mailing it to me.

Yep... I actually bought a respirator at Home Depot... it has replaceable filters and an exhale valve, so you don't fog up your glasses (if you wear them). I wear it when I'm cutting PVC or spraying paint with my airbrush. I look something like Darth Vader while I'm wearing it, but I never wear it in public, anyway...

I also bought a cheap 20" box fan and a 20" 3M Filtrete AC filter to tape to the back of the fan. I run this fan full blast next to my work area, filter towards me, to suck up as much dust or overspray as possible... makes cleanup a little easier and keeps airborn particles to a minimum...

I'm not sure yet , I have seen vinly downspout that is rectangular in shape and has the dips in it. It was expensive too and very flimsy. I will know once the hardware store gets the shipment and I go pick it up . Just another thing added to the 100 things I have to do on Saturday , before I go fly.

Just a follow up I HIT THE MOTHER LOAD ........... . Today while on my way to my next service call I stopped at the store to check if the pipe came in and sure as s**t it was there. The funny thing is the guy told me he had it all the time in the warehouse which is in the back of the store not connected to the main building. Who would have ever guessed. $28.00 dollars for 2 lengths is a steal IMO. Here's the pic of the pipe , he also has brown . When he told me he had it all the time , the amount of planes I could have finished ran through my head. I then said "ok , now which one of you do I have to take my belt of for ?" he laughed and then I paid him. For some reason these guys working at this hardware store seem strangely nice . I guess they are making a bundle from what they are selling. Hey if they had square pvc pipe , after some of the biggest stores didn't , They must have everything a person would want. .
