As Cubman stated it is Johnson&Johnson 1/2" Wetproof medical take which you will find available at any store. Rub the tape down on to the stitches then hit it with a heat gun and rub them down again and it turns out great.

Status: offline 		Thanks guys, I usually stick with band aids for my cuts so I will use your recommended tape from now on (at least for the Cubs). Cubman, I got your website link on my list of favorites, you've done an impressive job to say the least and I remember having read about your tip regarding this matter, but Anthony was closer I guess!? you have some great tips and when I start my Super Cub I'll be stealing some of your great information on a regular basis, for sure!

I have been using Cubman's tips throughout the building of my Cub. I am not going to the extreme on the scale details as he has on his Cub but it should still look the part of a Cub. I took Cubmans tips on Rib Stitching and combined them with tip from others and took what I thought was the best of them all and combined them into something I though would work for me.I am having alot of fun with the build and it is nice to see the finish line approaching and get this thing in the air. My next project will be a Nelitz 33% J-3, it will be decked out with all the bells and whistles.

Status: offline 		I finished applying all the rib stitching, I ran out of tape and still need to do the bottom of the stab and elevator. I applied the 1" reinforceing tape to the L/E of the wing. The 1" tape is too large to do the wingtips and the T/E so I will pick up some 3/4" and see how that works. Here are a few pics of the results.

Status: offline 		All the rib stitching and reinforcement tape has been applied and doped. A few more odds and ends and I will be ready to shoot the paint on. I will be painting it overall White with Red lightning bolt and sunburst on the wings and tail. I am going to be using Latex paint and then a clear to fuel proof the finish.

No!!! The streamlined tubing is from K&S, you can get the tutorial for building these struts from Cubman's website. They will cost you around $35-$40 to build.

Status: offline 		Just picked up my Magnum 120 from the hobby shop while on my lunch break. I will work on installing the engine, fuel lines and throttle cable tonight and hopefully paint the plane this weekend.

The engine is larger than I thought it would be and there would have to be a very large cutout in the bottom of the cowl for the valve cover if mounted inverted. I have decided to mount the engine horizontal and let the cylinder stick out the right side. The coutout I had already made in the cowl for my dummy engine cylinders is exactly the right size for the Magnum cylinder
It looks like the only additional cutouts will be very small for the choke wire and high speed needle valve. I will have to get a new muffler to bring the exhaust back inside the cowl and out the bottom. I will try the stock muffler 1st and see how it looks. I will post some pics as soon as I get the engine mounted up and the cowling fitted. My goal is to shoot the base color of paint on the plane on Sunday.

Status: offline 		I just recieved my Sig 1/5 scale Cub, can't wait to get started. I am getting back into the hobby after 20 years. I had forgot how expensive it is. I spent $125.00 on the kit, $211.00 engine, $250.00 for misc. at Tower, $95.00 eBay used radio system...and I'm not even started yet.
Your Cub looks good. Is this a Clipped wing Cub? It looks like the ailerons run almost full length. I noticed because I'm planning on improvising a Super Cub with flaps on my build.

Yes it is a Clipped Wing Cub. The build is going good, I am assuming the 1/5 should go together a bit easier since it is a much newer design.

I am at the point that I hate, I mounted the engine and trimmed the cowl. I have the cowl mounting blocks epoxied into place and will have to sand them down to get a good fit with the cowl. I am in the middle of running the throttle cable.
I have alot of odds and ends to tie up before painting, tail brace wires etc... It is looking like I may not get the paint sprayed on until sometime this week.

Status: offline 		Have had time to get on the web, been building a cub for a club member. Anyway one the tape you said the 1 inch was too big for the wing tips. Yes it is what I did was take the end about where the tip starts to curve around and cut the tape to go from 1 inch to ½ inch. Then I came back and cut the pinks by had with a knife. Just a not for all you cub nuts.
I’m in the process of rewrighting part of the cub den to clear a few parts of the construction article. Also I will be moving it to my new address and host so all the ads will go by by. My new address is working now, www.thecubden.org
I’m holding the first ever Cubs over Bluegrass in middle of June in Lexington, KY. Email me for more info

Status: offline 		It is midnight and I am still going at it,
I finally made some progress tonight, the cowl is trimmed and fitted to the fuse. I did make one mistake and cut the opening for the prop shaft a little too low on the front of the cowl. No big deal I was planning on buying a fiberglass cowl once I got thru the initial flights on the plane.
I constructed the tail bracing wires and have them fitted, I made the cutouts in the covering for the rudder pull/pull cables. I will now reinforce the cutouts with 2 layers of Koverall patches.
The wing is now ready for paint, I still need to glass the forward section of the fuse and the firewall then I should be ready to paint the fuse. Here are a couple of pics.

Status: offline 		Excellent job you are doing..this thread takes me back a couple of years to when I was building my BUSA cub (yes, the wings only come as two pieces.) I'm primarily a flyer, so as soon after it was built, it was in the air, and has been ever since... I plink away at adding the details as I have time. It will never be perfect, and may never be finished..it is a work in progress as they say... The Robart gear is a must have. I don't know why I waited so long to add it on.

I did mine in white with a blue lightning bolt, and you would be surprised at all the raised eyebrows....as if I broke the eleventh commandment, or something.. I wanted something different, and it is certainly refreshing to look at.

Nice pic of your Cub!!!! Since mine is a clipped wing I think I can get away with a different paint scheme without too much argument If I was building the full wing it would have been yellow and black.
I am getting ready to put a few more hours in on the Cub before I have to get out and mow the grass It looks like I waited about 3 weeks too long to start my Cub.

I have to drill holes to run the fuel lines and sand the struts then the Cub will be ready for paint. I should be able to get the plane painted white this week then I will give it a day or two and start masking off for the red. I will order some Nelson's Clear to go over the Latex. I am going to get the plane painted then work on getting the Instrument panel made and the interior finished off.

From everything I have heard all you need to do it fill the weave with dope and you are ready to paint. The latex should adhere good to the fabric.

Status: offline 		I used "American Accents" by Rustoleum and Top Flite LusterCote directly over the dope finish on mine with no problems; a year later it's still there, no chips or flakes. I did overspray the Rustoleum with oil base polyurethane, but the Top Flite paint is fuel proof by itself. Anthony, the Cub is really coming along, I want to see some good interior shots when you get it done.

I have my shop cleaned up and I will shoot the white paint on tomorrow night. I will thin the paint and shoot some test pieces before I go to the plane, I am more than a bit nervous about shooting the paint

This plane will be a work in progress for some time, I am going to get it flying and work on the interior later. I am trying not to go too overboard with the scale details. The plane should look very convinceing. I will be posting some more pics after the base coat is on and after shooting the striping on. The red that I had mixed for the stripes is very bright

I am going to order some Nelson's Gloss Clear to go over the latex on my Cub, can anyone tell me if a pint will be enough to give me 2 coats on my Cub?? I will be spraying it.This stuff isn't cheap $19 a pint so i do not want to order too much but I want to make sure I get enough.

Well I have the bottom of the wing painted along with the interior,the fuse top,cowling,and both sides. The exterior of the fuse will need another coat or two tomorrow. I wound up thinning the latex with windshield washer fluid and it worked fine. For each batch of paint I mixed up I used 180cc of paint,45cc of WW fluid and 10cc of Floetrol. The paint sprayed and flowed very nice, here are a few pics.
