I have my doubts to this one, as ALL GoM rigs in the path of Hurricane Lili were abandoned and all supply boats were tied up in their harbours however the e-mail stated that this is a picture taken (10/02/02) in the Gulf of Mexico of Hurricane Lili as she approaches the Louisiana coastline & was taken by a Seacor rig hand. No matter what, the photograph is awesome.

Flyboy

When i lived in L.A. i used to skydive out at Cal. City. Now you think your day is bad when you fly your R/C aircraft near one of those devils. Well try being in freefall and seeing several of those SOB's going across your landing area. But the upside to jumping out there we got a ring side seat to see the shuttle land at Edwards !

Scotsman, thats an awesome picture. That kinda reminds me of myself...I just KNOW that my last words on Earth will be something along the lines of "WOW! THAT'S AWESOME!"

Mig-29, just how close were you to Edwards? It was my understanding that they clear out airspace for miles around when the shuttle is coming in? (Now wouldn't that just ruin your day to get your parachute tangled up with a glorified glider?)

I am sorry about the crash.

But I grew up in Clovis, New Mexico and have been held prisoner in Charleston, SC since 74. (US Navy, then married a Southern Belle)
I miss the open spaces, the snow and yes, even the dust storms that blew all the time.
I especially miss being able to see all around for a few miles.
There used to be a R/C club that met north of town at a place called Running Water Draw. (I found that site one time after having to go home for a family emergency.) Those guys really did a good job of setting up a field.

There used to be a gentleman who lived near us on Duckworth St. near Manana that had a garage full of R/C Planes. I guess he was the one who got me interested as a kid.

Anyways, I miss the place....

I've got so used (just learning) to flying in 20+ winds that the other day when the weather was a picture perfect, no wind, blue skys flying day I hit so hard on the landing I ripped my nose gear off
So in conclusion, a good strong headwind is a must for soft landings
