I have both of them, The housefly is a piece of junk. It is the most unstable machine I have ever tried to fly and I have been flying helis since 1971. I have had blade strikes while flying???? the housefly. The hirobo xrb sky robo is a great little chopter. It is very stable right out of the box. It has trim pots on the side for infinite trim. It will sit in a hover hands off. I carry mine with me everywhere and fly in for folks in stores and golf shops. They are really impressed. Stay away from the housefly. Grady

i just got the XRB about 3 days ago and all I have to say is this thing is great. Its built great and fly great. I have never flown any type or air craft before till i got this and i was able to fly it pretty well after the first day. It even flew great right out of the box even before i balanced the blades and trimmed it. I would reccommend the XRB 100 times over. As far as the housefly is I'm not too sure but i have read alot of problems with it in thsi forum.

XRB yes - I know guys who learned to fly gassers with this
housefly NO - Although the service is good I am on my 3rd due to manufactures problems. You will spend more then the $100 on parts and ask yourself "How much is it worth to fly"
The HRB will be in the air while the housefly will be in the shop!!

I have an XRB. Its a fine little machine. The overall concensus around here is that the housefly is severly lacking in durability, performance, and quality. If you look up some of the posts regarding both the XRB and the housefly, you will find that the XRB has an overwhelming majority support. The most common questions and concerns regarding the XRB pertain to broken blades, fine adjustment of the rotor head, alternative batteries, and modifications. Most of these questions and concerns are easily corrected, and the answers can be found under the "Hirobo XRB Pics!!! and build info" thread, along with many others.

The most common problems associated with the Housefly pertain to broken blade root mounts, rotor-to-rotor blade strikes in mid-air due to flawed design, bent main shafts, and vibration problems. It has been said that Megatech has intentions on releasing a newer version of the Housefly which has a redesigned head to eliminate rotor-to-rotor blade strikes, but no mention has been made of when these improvements will be released.

While they both look the same, they are not. Its one of those "you get what you pay for" things.

I highly recommend the XRB. There are quite a few people on here that have been flying them for a while with no major malfunctions. Its one of my favorite model aircraft.

I have a House-Fly and I must say that if you get a good one, and what I mean by good one is one with good electronics, it is a very nice flying heli if set up correctly. Unfortunately my good one, which is my second, has developed electronic problems too. I have had a lot of very smooth hovering and flying and never had a blade strike. This heli will fly good even if the servos do not work right and if you have the patience to learn the set up. I hope that Megatech gets the QC taken care of, though.

So, until then, buy the XRB even though it is $100 more. It is well worth it. I don't have an XRB but from what I've read it is the best. But, don't expect it to be perfect. There has been a few incidinces of bad ones but nothing like the House-Fly. And remember...no heli is simple to fly. Even though the XRB is very stable you still have to practice and set it up correctly.

With that said...buy the XRB.

I had a Housefly and eve it looks good and sometimes flies good I can't recomend it, it's not a begginer heli and you'll spend too much time making adjustings instead of flying. Since a few days ago I have a XRB and believe me, it really flies out of the box without any problem even if the trimming is not 100% perfect.

Spend the additional money, you won't regret.

i have wanted to fly a helli since i can remember but always heard its to much money or to hard to fly! well a couple days ago a friend at the LHS put that XRB in my hands and said give it a try after the initial stress of flying around someone elses $300+ i had full and absalute control after just one charge! i couldnt believe it im flying a helli over here!! been hooked ever since.

i did break a couple of blades on my secound flight..........maybe i got a little over confedent!

HAHAHA....seee I tried to tell everyone that you could hand a XRB to anyone and they would have it hovering in one battery pack. Lots of people didnt believe me. Ive been letting lots of people fly mine.

Good luck with your XRB. I think you'll really enjoy it. I have a blast with mine.

Oh and as far as weight....hmmm. The heaviest Ive slung under it was (3) gi-joes. It would hover on about 3/4 throttle. It was a little touchy though.

Let me tell you this, last night my four and a half years old son took the XRB and without any help simply make the heli to lift about one foot from the floor, and believe or not keep the heli in the air for almost thirty seconds. This heli is a beauty, forget about the others and put your money on the Hirobo.

I have a "Dragonfly" XRB which I think was the first rip off of the Hirobo Lama but R/C, not tethered. Having no previous experience in model helicopters, I have nothing to compare it to but it seems reasonably good although it won't do any rapid maneuvres without blade strike and, even then, won't really do any rapid maneuvres anyway. Forward flight is about 2 ft/sec unless you dial in a little left cyclic as well and then it shoots forward (?) Yaws slowly too but all other moves are fast (side to side and backwards).

Has no electronic controls on the model and I had to do some surgery inside the Tx to centre the yaw so I think it's definitely a bit short on the QC.

However, after replacing the battery with a 1050 mAh Li=Po I was able to lift an empty 2 litre (close to 2 quarts) plastic milk bottle into the air although the turbulance and subsequent swaying of the bottle underneath made it a very short flight indeed! 8^)

Still has tons of lift though. Takes off at about 1/2 throttle.

Also, almost all of the parts are interchangeable with the Lama or Housefly. One thing to note though, the Lama XRB has a longer shaft to keep the blades further apart which is why they don't get blade strike. Those styrofoam blades last about 10 seconds on mine... as soon as you move, you get blade strike and POOF, they just fly to bits.

So I guess if I ordered a Lama inner and outer shaft I could upgrade mine..... Nah, I've ordered a Century Elite 3D Pro so I'm moving to the next level.

LOL

There are two versions, tethered and non tethered, both fly great but of course the non tethered version is way cooler.
