I recently bought an assembled & flown Kaos 40 at my LHS. This looks very similar to the Tower Hobbies Kaos 40, but it is not quite the same. I am not sure who actually made the kit originally, but I think they are no longer in business. I am looking for the measurement for the CG on this plane, so I can add my gear and fly it. If anyone may have had the older version of the Kaos 40, and might still have the instruction manual with the CG dimension, it would be greatly appreciated, or any other way to find the CG. Thank You.

The original was a Bridi, balance was on the spar. Great airplane and what Tower based their Kaos on.

Thank you for the information. Could you eloborate just a bit on what you mean by the Spar? Are you saying this is like the main center area on the wing or what? Sorry but it is just not to clear to me. Thanks.

Most of these type planes balance at the position of the main spar which happens to be 1/3 of the wing chord distance from the leading edge of the wing. Swept back wings and biplanes present a slightly different approach. On these special designs, the balance point is usually the average position of the 1/3 wing chord point.

There are other factors that get into the balance point picture like the 1/3 point is generally the thickest part of the wing along a chord line. It also tends to be the center of pressure aerodynamically.

I'm hoping to get something going here? I'll back down if I have too?

Nose heavy planes don't fly very responsive.

Tail heavy airplanes only fly once.

Nose heavy planes just will not manuver very well. A tail heavy plane starts to get real squirrely as you're trying to land it. Any worse and they crash!

If in doubt, error on the nose heavy direction.

You can tune one by trial and error by increasing the tail weight in small increments until the landing starts to get erratic. Then take a little weight ff the tail.

Enjoy,

Jim

The Tower Kaos 40 size manual calls for 4 inches from the leading edge, balanced upside down. Great flying airplane ! Tower never should have discontinued this one. Just picked one up on Ebay for backup.

sheptack, the spar is easy to locate; just determine where the sheeting on the front part of the wing ends (as stated above, about 1/3 of the chord from the leading edge), and that is the rear face of the spar.

These are great airplanes; one of the best-flying designs EVER made.

I have a Kaos kit by tower Hobbies. The date on the plans is 1995. A friend gave me the kit and I built it last winter. It is a sweet flying plane. The CG is listed as 4 inches (plus or minus 3/8" measured from the leading edge of the wing at the fuslage. I think you will enjoy the plane.
