HI Everyone:

I thought I would just drop into the thread and see how the different builds are going. I'm please to see that Sam is off to the races with his bird and hopefully will share his flying reports when he comes back from the field with it it.

After a 1000 mile drive home from Toledo, I'm pleased to report that we all arrived home safely. I am also pleased to report that we had some discussion with Dynamic Balsa about doing a complete cockpit kit and accessory kit including ALL the guns for all the other areas of the plane for the KMP kit specifically. Althought the "WING Manufacturing" one is close its not a perfect match. Hopefully I will have more to report as far as arrival dates and pricing in the next three weeks or so.

I'll stay in touch and keep you all informed when I know more. Feel free to call toll free if you have any questions, 888-968-7251 or www.kmp.ca

Cheers,
Andrew

Andrew,
would it be possible to purchase a set of unpainted cockpit glass for the plane, in case you want to do a different scheme or paint job?
Tommy

Andrew, what about some decent retracts? After several hours of messing with shimming, & bushing, the ones in the kit may work untill a better solution comes about.

I think if you look at the dimensional drawings for the Wing B-26 gear, you will find that there is no way they will work in this plane. The 630 frames are way to big, (front to rear of mount flange) to fit the mounts in the nacelles for the mains, and the nose gear is way to long, (3/4" longer) to fit in the nose bay. I guess the nose gear in the Wing kit must be mounted much higher in the fuse.
This was the first gear set I checked when my kit arrived. I am sure it could be engineered to fit, but not without a LOT of work.
Actually the 530 series 100% gear look as if they will fit well, but the point is that we were assured by Al, in many post about the KMP product in the past, that the gear were just great now that they had been upgraded. That is part of the reason I purchased this kit. I cannot imagine what the gear were like before the "new & improved" gear came along.

Since it appears the "slant" is already built into the gear mounts, I was thinking of using SPringAir 704's with Robostruts for the mains. I also have a nice set of machined aluminum hubs with brakes which I use to fly on my jet, they just so happen to be 4 inch wheels I believe. They are not light but would look and work good.
I am gonna use the RCV 91CD engines.

I think that is viable option, if the nose gear has the same frame as the mains. Some of the Spring Airs have the nose gear mount with the flasnges at the top of the gear as opposed the way the mains are mounted. I hade a set of Spring Air gear that were similar to the 700 series but had reveresed direction, (cylinders outboard), that would fit the plane but retracted the wrong way. They use the same frame demension as the 700s. Just call S/A and ask about the nose mount before ordering, and keep us posted.

15lbs NOT!!
Mine weighs 18lbs 6oz RTF. With a 4 cell sub "C" pack in the nose, needed 16oz to balance.
That's about 47oz/sq ft wing loading. I don't think it will be a problem.

I am waiting untill I can get some time on my Twin Stick, before I fly mine. It's been way too windy for a test flight here. Should have it in the air before the end of the month. I don't really expect any problems. Has about the same wing loading as my B-24, and it was a floater, & not to good in high wind.

Engine set up.

I'm using OS FX .91's with MAS 14X7 3-blade props
and OS A-3 glow plugs with Wildcat premium 5% nitro, 16% oil,
and the engines are inverted.
To get my engines to idle without overloading,
I had to turn the low end needle 3/4 to 1 full turn in (lean, clockwise).
On OS 2 strokes mounted inverted, looking in the carb with the throttle fully opened,
there should be about a 1/16" gap between the needle and the fuel inlet tube.
They can now idle for a minute and then go to full thottle without hesitation or stopping.
If yours doesn't do that then keep leaning the low end a 1/16 - 1/8 lean until they do.
The manual says 2 - 2 1/2 turns open for the high end.
Inverted, they need to be opened more (lower on the low end but higher on the high end).
I start at 3 3/4 open.
After starting, the needle then needs to be leaned (clockwise) about 1/4 - 1/2 turn to get max RPM's.
I forgot to put my readings down but I believe the RPM's was about 8000 for the 3-blade prop.
There was plenty of pull with these two .91's so I'm rarely going to need to ever use full throttle.
Remember to do the vertical test in the pit as well as just before taking off.
Once you know they won't quite after idling, you should be able to eliminate testing just before taking off.
I've got a good 60-70 flights on my World models F-82 and those two OS .46's h
