The quinessential Sport Plane has got to be the Stik - any Stik, for that matter. No matter how big or small, new or old, pretty or ugly, it is a design that absolutely values Function over Form. Substance over Style. Having-Fun over Showing-Off. Properly set up, a Stik-type airplane can do just about everything (yes, even the 3D ilk). My favorite Stik is a WM Super Stunt 60 set up super light with quad flaps. The darn thing lowers blood pressure in one flight way better than 6months on Lipitor. I had fun with it even as it augered into St. Augustine grass on its very last flight. And all I did after that was shrug my shoulders, smile, and say "oh, well." If the same thing happened with any of my 27% or larger aerobats, I would feel like crap for a whole week. I really think the reason I like flying Stiks so much is that I don't have my ego - and my wallet - chained to its tailwheel. The Stik is consistently the one I will bring to the field on a crappy day (for example, windy day with rain-soaked runaway), where I wouldn't risk any of my other planes. That makes a pretty good definition of what constitutes a Favorite Sport Plane .
