I guess I'm in with the SSE crowd here. I've built four of them. The most recent is a twin engined one and after it's first flight it became my all time favorite. Second would have to be my Smith Mini

I still prefer my 10 year old US 60. This is my second one, and I still have another kit. The OS 91 FS is getting old, but it still starts easy and makes lots of power.

Kelsey_B,
I've got 4 of the kits stored in the closet, plus another complete set of laser cut parts that I can do a 5th one with!! That's how much I love the US 60.

Oh yeah, I have 2 US 1000 there too!!

Wow Ken! and I thought I was a fan of this plane. I also have one kit for the US 1000. You mentioned kits, but are you currently flying one, and what engine do you like to put in these?

Unfortunately I lost my flying US 60 (flying on an overcast day that I shouldn't have been flying on), so I don't have one in the air right now. On the US 60 I was running a OS 61 FX. Was a great combo. I'm going to be putting the US 1000 on the building board later this month, I have a YS 120 for that. I've heard that's a great motor for it.

This is my "do anything plane". From sport-scale to pattern, to wild tumbles and 500' vertical climbs. It can do anything that I want to do!

Right now my favorite "sport" airplane, if you want to call it a airplane is a coroplast PBF. I have flown alot of the planes that have been mentioned above and had a good time flying these. Every plane flys differently, and to me it is the "learning" to fly the plane that is the challenge.

The PBF, with a OS 25 FX and a Mousse can muffler is a real challenge to fly. It teaches you to use rudder control to fly 3-D. and is cheap too!!!

My second choice would be my Great Planes Learjet, followed by my Patriot. (both with retracts and pipes). Also have a Ultra Sport 1000 with a OS BGX 3500. (Uses alot of fuel!!!).

As far as war birds, My Top Flite Corsair is a blast to fly.

Thats All

FOr just hacking around, I have a SIG Wonder with a 15LA on it. Fairly fast, cheap and it will take anything I can throw at it. I've been flying it here in Egypt and will ship it to the USA to continue the fun in another month.

The Hots is definitely not forgotten. I did build mine from a Midwest kit and had it together in a week. The Fox 45BB with pipe gave enough umph to do knife edge the entire flight, slow or fast. Found that a YS45re with pipe, enya 46 and os48 surpass fly quite well in this little airplane. Flew it for about 12 years and you can only repair the stress cracks just so many times. I liked it so much that I would like to very much build another as soon as the airtruk (now my favorite plane ) is finished.
The other ones are:
US 40 w/ YS45re
Su-Do-Khoi w/48 surpass
Diamond Dust w/OS40VRP (Use bright colors and double the covering, and lots of carbon fiber)
Graupner Cirrus on those lazy days
Sig Kougar MKII w/KB 61, HB61 gold cup, YS45
and the trusty old Livewire Jenny with an OS30 that I trained on, the plane was a wreck when I received it, rebuilt it and flew it for about five more years. Someone else destroyed it for me...

My main plane at the moment is a 7 year old, poorly built GP Cub .40. It was the first build for a couple of fellows, and they sold it before flying it. It looks awful, nose is chewed up (not really from crashing, just from frequent engine swaps and lack of fuel proofing, heh), no wing struts, at this point it has no fairings for the gear struts, and the wing is warped (I tried ironing this out, but it just goes back to its original warp after a flight or two). The warped wing means it does do pretty awesome left-hand flat spins. I've got a tired old .48 4-stroke in it. The plane is in olive drab to resemble an L-4 military observation plane, and it looks like it's been through a few wars. A real junkyard dog. I thoroughly enjoy practicing basic pattern work and airmanship with it (Cubs are great for fine-tuning your basic skills), and the great thing about a plane like this is I don't have to worry about messing it up too much.

Sig Kavelier...With a nice engine on it (46FX) and some good control throws it'll do almost anything, while still being a nice gentle plane when you want it...

The list of favorite sport planes is not complete without a Sig Four Star of any size. The perfect aircraft, fly it like a relaxing trainer, or let her rip. It does it all with style.
