I'm concerned with what I am reading here. I purchased (4) HS-5625s and (1) HS-5645 for use in my 1/4-scale Cap 232. They all are either 01/2002 or 02/2002 dated servos. I have the v1.02 Programmer. I've got over $1500.00 invested that may be at risk if I have a servo failure.

Mike, I hear you say Hitec has sold 10s of thousands of these servos and only a few have been found to be bad. You indicate that should elleviate my fears. It really doesn't. What can I do to elleviate my concerns before I install these servos and fly my airplane? What has been the cause of the few failures and can I test my servos to make sure they are not sensitive to failure? Should I auto test them for hundreds of hours through the programmer or do they fail farely quickly? Are the failures related to programming, ie, if I never program them are they less prone to fail?

My normal configuration:

TX - Futaba 9C
RX - Hitec Supreme 3800
Battery(s) - (2) NIMH 1500mah
Elevator (2 HS-5625s -- ailevator mode)
Rudder (1 HS-5645)
Airlons (2 HS-5625s -- flaperon or differential mode)
Throttle (1 HS-425bb)

Finally, I look forward to this airplane and have gone way over and beyond normal configuration for it -- spent a lot of additional money on a $200.00 airplane. I could easily forgo the digitals and replace them with HS-605s and would do so if the risk to my airplane is considerably lower than it would be with the digitals. I'm going with the digitals because I want a rock-solid trim after the initial flight, something I'm told the HS-605s have a problem with because of centering errors.

Howdy,

This is Glen Merritt at Hitec, Mikes on a short Vacation.

We at Hitec have repaired all known issues with the Hitec digital servo products as of October 2001 production. The program is stable and has not been changed or modified since then.

As stated, thousands of users are having great success with the Hitec digital products. A very vocal few claim to have some problems. Whether due to their inexperience, Hitec manufacturing defect or an incompatible accessory, we may never know for sure. However Hitec will stand behind it's product regardless.

Perhaps you may wish to use the programmers testing mode to cycle your servos for awhile just to lessen your fear. But truly, based on your posted list of equipment everything should work fine.

I am glad i read the posts on sending the 5945s back to Hitec if they had cetain dates on them sure enough i bought mine a year ago and they had the date Modified May 2001 on them i am getting ready to put them in a Radiocraft extra 330 33% i have always had great service from Hitec and very little trouble with their servos i have them in all my giants and never had any real issues with them. I once sent in 3 worn out 605s and expected to pay for repair they sent me 3 brand new ones and even paid the shipping you cant beat their service. I will be sending the 5945s in shortly before installing them. Thanks rcu folks for the update and Hitec for letting us know .

Hilley.... & the group.....

I have in my possession 10 Hitec 5645's. Getting ready to go into my 40% Edge. (I still need more)
Here I was thinking I was GOING ALL OUT in the purchase of these digital servos.

With the concerns raised through the posts in this forum I am rethinking my choice of servos.

Mike: The only way I will fly my 40% plane with these servos is if you let me return them for you to look at, reprogram, tweak or perform voodoo on. 3 of the ten I feel have problems already. 4 are brand new. Agreeable?

I just installed Hitec 5645 digitals in a World Models 80" Extra ARF, they have performed flawlessly thus far.

In lieu of the problems others have experienced and discussed I decided to cycle or exercise these servos to alleviate any potential problems. I am glad I did... This was a first for me, as I mention below I have been using the Hitec Digitals since they were first released. I obtained a device that was manufactured to continuously operate three servos simultaneously moving them slowly then quickly threw the travel range. After approximately 25 minutes two servos failed to respond to any control input. I am not sure what happened as far movement prior to the failures. Previous to the failure they appeared to work fine. They were reset with V1.03 software and the centers and end-points were matched. The third servo worked and continues to work without issue after approximately 2 hours exercise and is now being used on the rudder of my Extra.
six additional servos were placed on the cycler/exerciser without issue and are installed and have approximately three hours cumulative time on the lot.

I have been using Hitecs 5900 and 5700 series since they have been released without any problems at all. I have approximately [50] of them in mostly Giant Scale 33-40% aircraft. Additionally many of my flying partners are using these servos without problems. I feel they are very good servos. I have had numerous problems with the other major player in digital servos, failures including motors, gear trains, gear train slop and amplifiers...

My take is without exception all manufacturer's have problems. I have experienced it with all of them... As of this date some more than other's...

Hello Stan
Please let me know how you make out with the Servos.
I'm thinking about using them in the Big Bipe.
