it is with great chagrin that i post this.

We (helighost.com coming) have 4 walkera products. the basic design is good. i have made many posts regarding this, and its been a hot topic, so to speak. so for those of you thinking of taking the plunge, here is my final word on walkera.

DONT DO IT!

i emailed walkera at haudy@haudy.com (the contact for walkera) a week ago. no reply.

also, hobbyjapan2000 is a very poor provider. no reply.

the helis are fine, but, youll need to replace servos, some replace entire radio setup, and youll get ZERO customer service.

if you want a shogun 400, get one. the 35 is a fine heli, for less money. but you WILL spend the difference in making the 35 work as it should.

as to hobby japan2000 claim that each heli is flight tested three times, this is not true.

i have long supported the walkera products. i shall do so no longer.

all helis need to be gone over carefully, regardless of the manufacturer. however, walkera and nobbynippon have distinguished themselves as being the least worthy heli manufacturer/distributor.

i STRONGY advise to not purchase from them.

for the 200 dollars you might save, you would have a happy shogun 400. or an e-sky (crappy website, but not as bad as walkeras). the E-sky product is superior in quality and price.

here is the walkera website for you to see for yourself.

www.walkera.com

the site is written in very poor english. i cannot say enough bad about this company. do not buy from them.

good luck flying, buy an Esky, or an ECO, anything but a walkera product. you will receive crap.

I am quite amused at the subject of this thread.

I have been lucky enough not to need customer support for the walkera helicopters that i have. i agree with everything said about the helicopter itself. if I had to do it over again I would by an original design and manufactured helicopter from Japan or the USA...

A funny thing happened today that i have to share. I was flying my 22d and I let it climb above the rooftops where it got caught up in the breeze blowing over the houses. as it headed for a 20' tall palo-verde tree i went higher to get over the top. for whatever reason i was not successful in getting the thing to go upwind enough to get it back. that last thing i remember is it starting to spiral and as it descended below treetop height i just cut the throttle and sighed... about two houses away i found the wreck and was totally suprised to see that the only thing broken was the left landing skid! 20 minutes later and some ca glue the thing is on its skids again and has had a couple of living room flights... so even a crappy helicopter can surprise you once in awhile...

I don't care how good the performance and quality of the HOneybee is, as long as it uses tail motor, it's good for ppl who sell tail motors, it's not good for rc heli pilots.

Hi all,

Well I wasn't that lucky when I got my "Walkera 4" 1 month ago. As OperaGhost claims I had major problems with all the rc system. They replied to my mails V E R Y V E R Y S L O W L Y (got the reply 1 week after each sending) and finally they said that a new complete rc system has been sent as replacement (TX + RX). Never got the chance to fly the @%&!$@@ thing. I purchased a second one called "Twister" from a local hobby shop, which is IDENTICAL with the "Walkera", except the electronics and I kept the first for spare parts. They have E-Sky electronics installed and so far things are going as expected. The problem I had with the rc was a continous uncontrollable servo movement, regardless of what servo I had on. Something like a glitch

Twister link

By the way since I am interested in looks as well as in performance, I posted the following in another thread but I didn't get any responce so I thought that maybe I get luckier here:

Do you know where I can find bodies for the "Honey Bee", or the "Walkera 4", or the "Twister FP". Next thing to do is get the flying machine LOOK LIKE an helicopter. At least when seen from a distance .

Post a link if you can.

Thanks,
Michael

If you read some more posts on the Twister/Esky/etc you'll find that lots of people have extended tail motor life drasticly by putting on 1 or 2 heat sinks, that includes myself.
Have 3 tail motors as spares but haven't changed a single one since i started using a heat sink...
If the heli does unexpected things, flys off on it's own etc, it's probably time to change crystals, they don't like crashes much and that is a part of the learning process...

I finally got a response from Walkera (a week after sending original email)

Here is is, posted in its entirety.

I look for no satisfaction from Walkera, and must reiterate that the products they sell are junk. with many aftermarket parts and time, our walkera fleet flies, but i would not do it again, or advise anyone to do it a first time. they sell junk, and as you can see, their customer service is none existant. We have collectively put over 1000 dollars US into walkeras coffer, yet they can find no emails, or hire someone that speaks english. If my largest customer base spoke spanish, for example, and i took their money, i would see to it that SOMEBODY spoke spanish. Walkera cannot be bothered to do this, nor can they be bothered to support the defective products they ship. I cannot advise strongly enough to AVOID all things walkera.

now that the anti walkera rant (seems common, over time i see) is over, HeliHobby is our preferred choice for parts. they are fast, and they **** parts that actually work!
refreshing, after walkera experience (walkera ships defects).

they have a nice line of canopies for virtually any make of heli, even accomodating retractable gear. check their site out at Helihobby.com. good selection of other links as well.

also, re: the tail motor vs the direct system, i prefer the direct drive system. however of the 5 helis we fly, we have more hours on the honeybee II than any other, and its still on its first tail rotor motor.

its a practicable alternative, the HB is a superior heli, with good support and electronics that actually work. if you cant go top o the line, so to speak, go honeybee. do NOT go walkera. walkera is trash.

hope this helps, sorry if i got demagogish, but walkera is really stuck in my craw, and to insult me on top of it....not a compay worth doing business with.

Hi OperaGhost,

Did you purchase the product from Walkera, or from HobbyJapan2000 because it's not clear from your post.

From the reply they sent you, it appears Walkera are suggesting you bought it from a retailer.

it was purchased from a retailer, hobbyjapan2000.

as were the others

thats two (2) dragonfly 35s and one (1) dragonfly 22a.

i think i see your point, so let me clarify-of three helicopters purchased from HJ2k, all have had serious problems.

none of the non walkera products have had these problems.

these experiences are only my personal ones, but i would suggest that you search the forums more, its an endemic problem

the gist of my email to walkera was that i felt the product was fine, and that with the apparent level of poor quality, perhaps they could find another distributor, if in fact its the distributor that is the problem.

the reply, posted elsewhere, was laughable, and is in line with what others have said.

its just gonna be a mistake for anyone to purchase from walkera, or hj2k. believe me now, or believe me later lol.

Just to let you guys know; I still haven't received the replacements from "www.happibuy.com". The bad thing is that I not only expect the RC system, but some other parts that I ordered later on. It's been 11 days since the payment confirmation.
I am not sure though if the responsibility is ALL from their part. I have a little suspection (at the back of my head) that maybe the Hellenic Posts is involved in this delay. I even think that perhaps some guys in the postal service take advantage of "free RC parts".

i just recently bought a 22a walkera off of ebay from someone that bought it from a retailer. So here is the story of my findings. I wanted to save money so i bought a walkera 22a. i got it cheap, and that is exactly what i got....a cheap heli! i took it out of the box and it was ready to fly.....after a few modifications. i replaced one servo, two main shaft pins that were sheared off even before flight, replace the weak main gear that was already stripped after one minute of running the motor. so after i did that i got about a minute of hovering until the tail axle bent and the heli started vibrating so bad that the plastic fin on the tail cracked off. so i glued it back on and packed it up into the box and put it back on ebay. now i have a shogun 400 with a brushless motor and upgrades for only a little bit more. so my advice is spend now and get what you would have to create later. everything i read about the 22a is that it is a great helicopter, once you tun it into a hornet2. so if you want a project then this is your heli. oh yeah and if you thought that the email walkera sent him was unreadable you should check out the instructions that comes with the heli. the only legable part was the legal statement at the end saying that when their pile of junk explodes in mid air and takes your head off they are not responsible.

the main gear on the 22a is notoriously weak, and walkera doesnt even have anything approaching customer service.
though we have two 35s and one 22a that are reasonably nice helis (after a lot of time an money and work) i cannot recommend them any more.
if you have not yet gotten a heli, i would remove walkera from the list of those that i would consider purchasing.

the above poster is correct. spend the extra money at the outset for a better heli. you will have 500 into your 35 in a matter of weeks.

Hi,

My Walkera #35 6ch heli had servo problems. The ebayer seller Hobby_rc have replaced the servos and spare parts which were damaged free of charge.
The main problem I have found is that in the hover the heli flys ok but when I put in tail pitch the heli starts to drop due to motor being loaded up.
I might try a slightly more powerful motor and see how it goes. The are a few guys locally who have upgraded their Zoom 400 to hacker motors etc and they fly excellent 3D.

I havent tried the use the idle up switch and flip it yet. It does have plenty if negative pitch but I think quicker cyclic servos are needed first.
The guys here use $30 mini servos from Hitec and they work great for 3d flips, inverted etc.

But after flying the Walkera 4ch and 6ch helis my Raptor50Se is much easier to hover and do flips with.

Regards

Mike
