okay guys here is my first post on this site. i have one question for alot of people in here. you guys all talk about fourstrokes like they are the real deal why doesn,t anybody use 2 stroke anymore. i have a75 super tigre in my p40 it works great i swing a 13/6apc
it hits 10000rpm and engine is not broken in yet .. if anybody else is running this same combo can you please let me know how yours works this is my first st75(from italy) and i'm not sure what rpm this engine is suppose to run at i don,t know if i'm working it to much.

i have flown this thing 3 times it flys great i have only been flying for a1&1/2 years and i love it have a topflite p40 that is also assembeled just needs to be painted

Two strokes are fine, but nothing beats the throaty power of the YS 91 I have on mine. Low level passes are the best. The only problem I have with this plane is that it does not want to stop flying, she floats and floats, you almost have to muscle her to the ground.

I think lower pitch prop will help reducing landing speed. Also, higher nitro will enable lower idle too. Are you running a 15x8 on your YS 91? What idle rpm are you getting?

ANYONE of you pilots use a SuperTigre or OS 90/91 2 Stroke in this P-40 inverted or sidemounted? AND was it reliable or not... Contemplating a P-40 or Corsair by H9.... I have a ST 91 NIB and also a used OS .61 so I'd rather stick to these if they will work well and reliable inverted....or side mounted....anythoughts on these or experience?
Thanks
lastly...are the newer Stock H9 retracts better and holding up better than early release kits?

hey nemesis i have a st 75 inverted it works great just lean out the bottom end a bit because with the engine inverted the fuel puddles to the plug so if you do this it will have more of a chance to burn it off i have had mine in the air 10 times now and it is working great. this is what works for me (so far lol)

I used to have a ST90 in my TF corsair. WHAT A BLAST! I loved it. I used a slimline large volumn pitts muffler that gave it a deep thoaty growl and really turned that engine loose. I used it side mounted and it didnt stick out of the cowl. Was so reliable that the only hole in the cowl was for the glow driver. Didnt have one for the needle valve. Set it and forget it. I had to use a cowl baffle to properly cool the engine. I use that engine now in my scratch mustang, side mounted also. Its a screemin deamon. I have the H9 P-40 with a saito .91 in it. I didnt follow the instructions when I assembled. They wanted the servos in the tail. I made a new servo tray and moved all the servos up by the CG and ran 4-40 rod to the elev and rud. To support the pushrods in the middle I used spray foam insulation with a straw extension to carefully place the foam inside. Just takes a little. Balanced with no lead. My P-40 weighs 7lbs 10oz ready to fly. Lands like a trainer. Had to do a bunch to straighten out the retracts. Not the best of quality but the do ok at a light weight. I've never run 2-stroke inverted but I've seen it done successfully. Go for it. One thing I've noticed about flying is that there is a tail waggle like a corsair from mid throttle to full throttle. Anybody else notice this?

BTW-I've seen your field in Bryan. My son lives in College Station. Thats a nice big runway.

Does anyone know if the newer production models have improved retracts? There's plenty of mixed reviews on them, just curious, because I'm interested in this plane. I have an O.S. 91 FS looking for a new home. I figured one of those adjustable headers would allow me to hide the entire exhaust in that cowl (too pretty to cut).

honestly, P-40 retracts hold very well...not a single pproblem in 40 flights. They have been improved from the corsair model.

Something I thought I would never say BUT, mine are holding up too. I DID do some rework to them to make them not so wobbley. I fly mine with a saito .91. Not a screamer but does just fine. I think what makes the retracts work ok is keeping it light. With the servos all moved forward around the CG it came out to 7lbs 13oz (I think, or thereabouts). I lands like a trainer. The main thing that helped was fixing the wheel alignment. Had to set them straight on or the flimsey struts would dance in and out then cause nose overs.

Glad to hear it. I too have personal experience with retracts. Though they were the cheap ones in the Spectrum(40 sized pattern plane), they held up most of the time, but if there was a slight croswind, they would quickly move out of allignment, and nose it over. I was hesitant because of this, and reading countless posts over the past couple years has certainly made me think more than twice about picking up a bird epqiped with them. I really love the P-40, it's a beautiful plane, and I can't wait to get my hands on one. Thanks again guys...
