I have begun working on my P-40 again and I remember from this post (or another in the ARF thread??) that there was an issue/update about the retract servo. Something about (1) bending the retract servo wires in a semi-circle and (2) the spacing on the servo arm for the quick connectors should be greater than 1". Also how about the drive washer being 5 1/8" from the firewall...is this still correct?

Thanks

I ended up using less than 1" on my servo not more than 1" it caused binding and a buzz in my Futaba servo.
my push rod keepers lined up 180o from each other so I had to make sure they cleared by clipping the push rod ends short enought to clear the rotation of the servo.
the gear that comes with the plane takes some trial and error to get them working right. I found that the locking point is not the full throw of the gear rod and had to find the sweet spot to get them to lock properly up and down, lots of trial and error they work O.K. if you have a smooth strip to use, there a bit weak for a grass field though.
I used the # on the inst. manual and the cowl fit well no problems if you don't have yours then you can get the downloadable one from www.horizonhobby.com

It flies! Yahoo!

I maidened my Hangar 9 P-40 today. Man, does it fly nice!! Very scale-like flight, but yet there's plenty of reserve power on-tap for those high-speed passes. I have powered it with the following -

Hacker A50-12S
Jeti Opto-70
Maxamps 5s 4000 lithium
MA 14x9 3-blade

AUW, according to my fish scale, was 8 lbs. 14 oz. Static amp draw on a fresh battery is 65A. Half-throttle produces plenty of speed for cruise, and I didn't find myself using a lot of WOT (except on those pretty high-speed passes!). I expect it's just about as fast as my club-mate's .91 2-stroke H9 P-47. It's not a contest, of course; he even admits his is overpowered. I just like to think that I shouldn't have a problem keeping up!

We started a 'fighter wing' in our club of .60-sized WWII warbirds, and this P-40 is my entry. Our official name is the "913th Fighter Group", named after our AMA Chapter Number 913. So far we have two P-51s, a P-47, and now a P-40. Two AT-6 Texans are on the way, as well as another Mustang, a F4U Corsair, another P-47, and a pair of Hellcats. We flew 5 planes in formation last week (.60-sized P-47, two .40-sized Mustangs, a Ripmax e-powered Spitfire, and a .60-sized Mustang) and it was a sight to behold. I can't wait to get that P-40 in formation with the other .60-sized planes!

Anyway, after diagnosing and repairing an ESC problem (loose connection), I flew 6.5 minutes and put back 2700 mAh in one pack. I flew almost 8 minutes the 3rd time around, and I'm curious to see what went back into that pack. With good throttle management, I would think a 10-minute flight is do-able.

E-calc states around 70+ MPH if I remember right. I don't know if it's quite that fast, but the size of the plane can be deceptive as it's pretty fast when it's wide open.

Yay for Mike! Another e-bird takes flight!! I'll post pics once I re-glue the exhaust stack.

Much like a sport plane. Easy to fly, no bad tencencies. Mine's just a shade on the tail-heavy side, but I can't move weight forward as it's already a handful to taxi. It required a little down trim and a little right trim, but other than that it's nice flying when hands-off. I added 20% expo to the elevator and that helped the sensitivity, but I might go up to 30% and see if that's any better or too mushy.

I don't recommed this, or any other warbird, as a trainer!! Definitely start with a traditional high-wing trainer and work your way up to the P-40. I would recommend it as a good third plane, maybe even a second plane, but not a first!

Hey guys, I fly mine with a OS 91 FX in it. It flies alot different than my H-9 P-51. It flies very well and the landings are comp to a sport trainer. Just have a skilled pilot with you to get it trimmed out and to check it out before and after the first flight. Good luck and happy flying. I have just incountered a huge project. A GIANT SCALE P-51. TF bird. flyboy

About 18 to 20 hours. I realy go through my arf's to check for anything loose. As far as speed I heard mine at full throttle and straight level flight was around 90 +. Remember I have been flying for about 16 years. Good luck Remember there are NO stupid questions when it comes to flying these birds.
