I temporarily set my gear up as fixed gear to fly it, moved the gear forward, doesn't nose over on taxing or landing, flys great!

I have a saito 125 in it, but I am thinking of swapping that out with a Saito 100. I have a OS91 4 stroke or a Saito 100 I can put in it, any recommendations?

The 125 is going in a yak

I suppose either would work. Did you mount the servos in the back? I mounted mine all up by the cg (made a new servo tray). Balanced with a os91fs with no led. 7lbs 10oz. Flys pretty spirited with that setup. If the servos are in the back you might need some weight up front.

I also have the OS91surpass in mine plenty of power, exhaust exits out the rear of the cowl, right now I am using a MAS14/7 3bl prop its plenty fast and jumps into the air.
servos in the rear of the fuse I did put the battery and reciever forward just behind the fuel tank balanced with the CG at 3 3/8" on the suggestions from this thread and it flys great,
its still a little tipy but as long as I give it a little elevator when on the final roll out I can keep the tail down.

Has anyone used an OS 91FX two stroke in this plane with a pitts muffler ? I would like to see some photos of the plane if possible. I have this engine and I am cosidering one of these models if the cowling would not need to be cut out too much to make it work.

THANKS,

Rick

Well...I finally got my P-40 done. I won't maiden it until the weather breaks in Spring and I find a new field. The same day I made my last post in this forum I took a new job in a new state and started the following day. Six months later I am now completely moved and getting back to working on some planes. My final weight came to 8 lbs. 8.3oz, after all the repairs minus some lead. This was a fixer upper I bought at a local swap. Thanks again to all the great ideas in this forum.

My CG right now is at 3 1/2 inches. I am still debating if I want to move it up or leave it.

Rusty , nice plane , if you want to add some cheap but good Oleo struts , try the new ones offered from HobbyPeople , there $25 for a set for the VQ P40 , should work fine on this plane

I will have to check out those struts LDM. Bolt, the spinner is an old CB Associates P-40 spinner that is now sold by MECOA. It came with the plane. Check out mecoa.com. Thanks for the comments guys.

another spinner option is one I got from ebay but have since gotten a 2blade version as well from them, its polished aluminum but could be scuffed and painted as well http://www.racingdevil.com/product.php?category_id=105 for 20$ they look pretty good as well.

I have one of those spinners from racingdevil too. A pretty good bargin. After a few years of flying mine, I'm about fed up with the retracts. Too much maintenance to keep them working right. The plane is retired for awhile till I can get some sierra's to put in. Or maybe I'll just sell it at the next swapmeet and get another brand P-40. Either way, I'll still use sierra retracts.

Edwin , I am on my third h9 love them all and always used CJ gear , I will now go to sierra , no big hatred on CJ just tired of tinkering with the weak struts , otherwise they have been very good to me ,
My question for you was I just got these VQ struts , was going to try them on my new H9 corsair with stock H9 gear , are you saying the stock H9 gear is a pain ???? can you or anyone explane your experience with the stock gear and also I fly off of grass

I fly off astro turf so I have limited expierence with a grass surface, but the stock gear seem to get out of adjustment after about 5 flights or so,mainly with the ball link that is attached to the struts moves a little bit and throws the wheels out of strait and true,I just need to file a flat spot and use some lock tite on the set screw which I havent gotten to.

I also had trouble with the ball links they would pop out if I came in a little hard and fold, this was quite a while ago Horizon sent me some of the new ones and it hasn't happened since apparently horizon also corrected this problem.

when I first flew my P-40 the struts were about as soft as can be, and bent on me when I made a rough landing on the side of our runway which is not smooth at all, when I bent it back strait I tempered the wire( heated the wire with a tourch, not red hot but enough to make water sizzle) it stiffened the strut and made it alot less flexable,so I did the other side seemed to help alot, since then I have had the recomendation to cool metal in oil rather than water it tempers the metal less abruptly.

I also did it to my H-9 mustang struts, which had the softest wire for gear leggs, they were also helped out quite a bit
