i put a Evo.61 on my P-40,the recommended prop is 12X6. Is putting a bigger prop asking for trouble?

I bought a 12x6 with the 13x5 too, it turns both props welll. I'm guessing 9,800 RPMS on the 13x5 and 11,200 for the 12x6. Evolution is not very clear on their recommended props, they usually only list one that is very moderate both on pitch and length. For example on the .46 I'll run a 10x8 for speed and 12x4 for a slow high wing. 13x5 should be sort of scale for the .61/P-40.

Maidened mine today, the Evo .61 motor swinging a 13.6 prop is fine. Really fast at 1/2 throttle. I added no weight to the front w just stock gear. The cg was at about 3.25,there was no noseover tendancies and she glided forever, took several passes to bring her down. I did add a little fiberglass cloth to the firewall but that was it. Too bad these are discontinued,i really love this plane its my first glow.

I just had a question about your flight - I am probably about a week away from my maiden flight and I wondered how your plane handled on take off. Did you have to use much rudder or did she track fairly straight? I have the .61 also, and am glad to hear that it has enough power for the plane. did you use flaperons for the landing? Thanks

its been quite a while since I maidened my P-40,here's a little insite into the H-9 planes,on the take off roll go easy on the throttle a slow gradual let in on the gas will allow the plane to have a nice easy TO,if you hammer it like so many sport flyers do then it will jump into the air,I know this because I barely recovered after this happened avoiding a major mishap.
light touch on the rudder is all you will need this aint no Top flight its light and flys that way,if you have flown a sport plane you won't have any problems with this one.
not too sure about this plane being discontinued went to the Hangar-9 site and there still around, there just not available from Horizonhobbies web site.

I set mine at 3 3/8 on the recomendations of this thread, its a bit tippy on the roll out,and landing, but its rock solid in the air.
I should say it ended up being 3 3/8 after I assembled it, so I didn't move anything I wish the wind would chill out around here I am looking forward to a flying summer.

Mine went fairly straight w just a little knudge of right rudder due to bumpy ground. As soon as my tail lifted I gave a little elevator and up she went!!! Landing was a pass pass deal because this plane glides and glides,i had a deadstick w my first flight(air in fuel line) and she glided all the way down from 150ft not a scratch. My c/g is 3 3/8 everything is stock on my bird and servos in the tail as the manual has them. My remaiden went awesome got a full flight even though I had the jitters.

thanks for the info. i haven't flown a plane with landing gear - i have only flown parkzone warbirds. i am hoping this won't be too big a jump. oh, one more question, when you check your CG, is that with an empty gas tank?

Also, landing gear up for balancing (and upside down on a low wing). Thought I'd throw that in :]

KJ its a nice friendly warbird but just read some post on warbirds and take your time and you will be fine .
ONe of the biggest advantages of e-flight vs gas is precise throttle management is so easy with e-power . So my advice is make sure you get your gas engine running with very reliable throttle , you will really enjoy the ability to taxi out slow , test the ground handeling ect and when at high altitude you can slow her down to see how she will respond to a stall ect ect .
YOu can read tons of advice on how to fly a warbird , but trust me the best advice I ever received was throttle management , because your engine will control you altitude a lot better then your flying surfaces

Does anyone have any advice on where i could find a red 3 1/2" spinner? i have been looking online and in hobby stores but it seems that most brands only go to 3" unless you want an aluminum from tru turn. is there anywhere else that might carry a standard red? thanks.

there was a company called CB associates who did make the red spinner for this model it had a alum. back plate and plastic cone, there is a link somewhere in this thread way back there.
I am pretty happy with the spinner I ended up with from racing devil hobbies, http://www.racingdevil.com/product.php?category_id=105 it was inexpensive and came with a adaptor, hard to beat the price,as well as being pretty good looking.

Back a few replies I mentioned the aluminum spinner on ebay, I painted mine red and it looks really good. I sanded it with some 200 grit sand paper and primered and painted it with some regular spray enamel from Home Depot, it looks awesome and the fuel hasn''t affected it.

I''ve been flying mine quite often now and I love it. I guess with a 2 cylce .61 it balances perfectly with servos in the tail as per the instructions.

I have had the same gear problems as I have been flying off some rough grass. I tried to bend my gear back but snapped it off instead. Do we have any part numbers out there for some Dubro replacement struts?
