if you check with bisson they might be able to provide you with a suitable muffler here is the link for the 100 inverted muffler http://www.bissonmufflers.com/en/muffler.html?mufflers::listing_id=1136942 they have a pits style muffler already advertised for your engine but I couldn't find a inverted one I would bet they could make one up fairly quick.
the muffler question and running inverted is part of the reason I like the 4st engines, post #630,#703 show the rear dump set up I used as well RCSecialties has a set up for his saito engine as well,I have had nothing but trouble running 2st engines inverted the tuning issues and my lack of patience also could be part of it.

The muffler was one of the old style Turboheader mufflers, which is sweet.  Check the tachometer forum within the engine section for my numbers on the Saito 100 with this muffler combination.  That was at 425 ft ASL in TN.  I am now 900 ft. ASL in OH.  I haven't fired it up yet since I got here.  Working six days a week has put the hobby in the backseat but I am going to get going this month now that I have a field where I live now.  I used a Saito 90 degree adapter with it.  I broke the engine in with the original muffler and then tested it from there with the new Turboheader muffler.  The engine is a Saito 100.  I originally bought this plane from someone who ran a 61 two stroke.  It was side mounted and the original cowl was hacked up to allow the head and muffler to exit out the side.  I bought a new cowl as a result of that.  I left maybe a 1/4" of clearance or so between the muffler and the firewall.  Only holes in the cowl are for access to the HS and LS needles. The exhaust diverter is secured with zip ties to keep it from moving around then it is zip tied to the muffler.  This should mimimize some of the movement in the muffler.  The exhaust diverter is Aerotech tubing.  It has been replaced with the white type which takes higher temperature better.  The blue stuff is for two strokes (opps!).  I am also using the original metal mount with the engine.  It is ready for the maiden which I am hoping will happen in the next few weeks. Let me know if you have any further questions. I will be putting another one of these mufflers in my TF Spit once I get the engine section complete and I know which engine I am going to use.

rusty pep, I was wondering if you could give me some information about the muffler setup that you are using.  Did you get the muffler from RC specialties?  I am using an evolution .61 but I like how you have your muffler positioned.  I don't want to cut into the cowling too much so I was hoping you could give me some assitance.  Thanks.

Check www.keleo-creations.com
They have a custom exhaust for the Hanger9 P40, and a generic pitts for an inverted Saito100 motor.
I have the pitts style for an OS70 Surpass which I used in my 1/5 scale and the sound is extraordinary and very compact.
I have started a Hanger 9 P40 and plan to get the custom exhaust (about $130). It is setup to exhaust via both sides of the cowl, and the reviews have been very good.

The only down side to the Keleo exhaust is that the front pipe comes out in the eyeball on the cowl, otherwise it is way cool!!

how did you like the corsair? I am actually lookin at another h9 plane, because I too had the p-40, but I lost it because my battery went dead in air and I lost total control. It went into a nosedive and I was Really pist! hanger 9 actually replaced the plane for free with a sopwith camel 60, and didnt charge me a dime! I am very pleased with the customer service of hanger 9 and am definatly going to get another one of their models. I like the corsair alot, and with a few adjustments I could make the gear on the P-40. I have heard alot of complaints about the corsair, but alot of times it is just the pilot who is the problem. Nice model it looks just like the real thing! have fun flyin it! ( Low Passes are really cool, especially with the p-40 model!) it handles nice so dont get too spoiled

Predman,
Glad to hear your exhaust is working out for you. I'm watching Keleo for when the Hanger 9 P40 comes back into inventory. I have one of his OS70 Pitts exhaust on my 1/5 Sig Cub, and the sound and look are super.

Question: what, if any, consideration did you have to make when installing the fuel tank? I'm working on that part of the plane now and find the supplied fuel tank will be chafed by the lower two mounting bolts. They poke past the firewall by about 1/4 " and are rubbing on the fuel tank - sure as heck, they'll poke a hole.

Thanks,
Michael

I just installed my gas tank last weekend and had the same problem. i found that only one bolt was hitting so i cut the bolt so that it was flush with the back of the fire wall. i am going to use lock tite to make sure it does not come loose.

You know if you went electric, you wouldn't have to deal with fuel tanks and hacking up the cowls. LOL

And for nice spinners, low priced, check out here. http://www.maxxprod.com/mpi/mpi-11.html

Aluminum with a little red Rustoleum spray bomb paint on mine. And yeah that's a 14 x 13 x 3 APC on there.

Michael,

In those cases where chaffing a hole in the tank is possible, you can get a piece of the thin rubber used to line the craftman tool drawers. Cut a square for the front of the tank, cut out a hole and you have instant insulation. I bond it to the tank with silicone adhesive. I would trim the bolts as mentioned.

Jim

As stated before its been dropped because they are introducing a 1/5 scale version with split flaps , dull colored covernig , air retracts and counter balances in the tail .
Remember keep spreading this rumor and it will make it back to horizon and the little keebler elves will make it come true -I hope
