Just wanted to let everyone know that in the Sept. 3005 issue of Model Airplane News has a review on the H9 P-40. Good review but stated they had to add 13 ounces of nose weight to get the plane to balance. Ouch!

There is no ballast in my H9 P40 Tigertooth.

I am using an OS91 Surpass and have the battery and reciever in the compartment just aft of the fuel tank.

I also forgot to mention that I too shimmed my engine mount to remove some of the right thrust that was built into the firewall.

This really is a great flying ARF P40 that when properly assembled will fly as long as you are capable of not screwing it up.

And BTW Nemisis TY for the compliments. <S>

Model Airplane News did a review of this plane in the September 05 subscription. By the way, how has your September been this year? Anyway, the reviewer had Saito 100 and required 13 oz of nose weight to balance. He didn't say what point was the CG, but 13 oz?! I can put a 120 Saito ILO Saito 100 and be done with it.

Didnt get to fly this weekend. Rain and little detail problems kept popping up. So I wouldnt have been able to anyway. But its ready now. That retract servo sure strains to get the gear up. Occasionally I gears slipping. Been thru it at least 3 times readjusting. Seems to be ok now. The final weight came out to 7lbs 13oz. Thats pretty light. The gear should easily handle that. Unless I do a slam and go.

Hi Edwin, What retract servo are you using. I'm putting one together right now and tried using a Futaba 136G and it would not pull the gear up. I checked the specs and it only has 90 inch ounces torque. I ordered a JR 791 retract servo which has 260 inch ounces with a much more realistic speed. Yogi

I use the hitec 75BB w/o any problem...no problem so far with the gear after 20 flights (I still replaced the struts because I broke one trying to bend it, but that was during the building...I put std struts from great planes)

I'm using the hitec 75BB. I looked at a futaba servo and it too was only about 92oz. Sounds like the JR is the way to go. At this time it still works but you sure can hear it strain. My guess is that while flying, there will be some wind to help it up. Coming down shouldnt be a problem.

Just raced my H9 P40 yesterday in the Warbird Races in Sacramento.

That was a BLAST!. I finished 3rd in bronze and made back all but 3 bucks of my entry fee.

I would have finished higher but I cut 2 pylons in my second heat and broke out of the 2:30 bracket.

I must say that the plane got a lot of good compliments from all that looked at it.

It was the largest plane out there with respect to fuselage cross section and wing area and yet it was still

able to be competitive with just an OS 91 for power.

Try it!
