C.B. Associates. 3 1/2". The LHS found out that cba was bought by Mecoa. I ordered a red one thru him but havent received it yet. So I ordered a white one from B&B and have been using it.

I just found this thread on the Hanger 9 P-40 and it sure has some great info.I just recently became the happy owner of one and I must admitt it sure flies great. Mine is powered by an RCV 90SP swinging an APC 18 x 12 propeller. This power package sure makes the plane fly scale and not to mention a very different sound. The only down fall with using the geared RCV engine is the propeller tries to pull the plane off the ground on the take off run before the wing is ready to fly but the plane always seems to recover fast from the early lift off.So far the mechanical retracts are holding up just fine. The JR retract servo I am using pulls the wheels up at a nice speed.I am using JR DS811 digital servos on all the control surfaces.I am really amazed at how easy it is to do really low passes with it.We have a few ground hogs living near the end of our runway and they have gotten used to the flying activity. On one low pass I was so low they went running for cover.

Reid,
I had that problem too with my P-40. It turned left quick and jumped up at around 1/2 throttle. Caught me off gaurd but it seemed to power right thru it with no problems. I am using a saito .91. I wouldnt have expected that. Will be ready for it next time. Still waiting on the JR 791 retract servo. Grounded until then. No big deal. We just lost our field and have to remove everything this weekend. I can still fly at the other club I belong to but its 45 miles from home. We're still looking and have a couple of prospects available to us.

I already posted this reply I have in the Arf are because i couldn't find this thread. My H9 is finished for a friend of mine. With a older OS 90fsr up front this is also tail heavy which seems to be the general consensus here. Am I right. I also built Texans, P-47 and Zeros which have a short moment but this did not look like it but apparently is.

I did not have to add any nose weight to balance mine. But then again the RVC 90SP is a little heavier than most engines of the same displacement.Everthing in mine is mounted as per the instructions including the battery ( 1500 mah pack ).I also have on board glow but is is mounted right where the CG is.
I am using right rudder on take off.It turns out having the RCV geared engine there is alot more left torque. After flying it again a few more times I realized I was running out of right rudder when taking off.I increased the rudder throw from the recommended 1 1/2 inches of throw to 2 1/2 inches and straight take offs and climb outs are no problem now.
I have noticed some people have balanced theirs a 1/2 inch further back and say it flies okay there and it helps keep the tail wheel on the ground better.I am going to try this but I am going to start with the CG a 1/4 back from the 3 inch mark and see how it handles. If things go good I will move it back another 1/4 inch.

Well i read alot of the post here and ill add some...hehehehehe....the 40' is the most fun plane i have in my hanger. in fact,, mine is going out in the morning.....Hanger -9 couldnt have done a better job on mine...i have a 120 surpass on mine,,,and the power it has is awesomeee!!!!!!!!!!....with everybody hammer'n the gear...you have to land this plane like a warbird...not a cub..you do that and yeah,,,,the gear will break...i have about 30 or so flights on mine,,and the only thing i can say is that get some lock tight and do the screws on the bell crank,,,mine let go...one time... now with that said,,,im fly'n mine with it being totaly stock...no add ons at all...as far as the flaps...this bird dont need them...gives guys the chance to have a nice warbird without all the complications...trust me i know this...i have a real sexy mustang,,,and i cant keep the gear in it...called robart,,,and i need to spend another 425$...sheesh,,,think ill go and get a hanger-9 mustang...prolly fly better..hehehehe..yall have a great day...i would go and get one if you dont have one...there nice..
