Hello!

I am finishing up a SIG Kadet Senior ARF w/ a Saito .91. The question is what would be considered a premium throttle setup from the servo to the carb? I hear good and bad about flex cable and good about music wire w/ z-bends. Can someone shed some light on this please...

I installed a mini servo up front with a straight rod, but I have had good luck with the stainless braided cable on other planes.

I like using a flexible braided cable inside a nylon tube for my throttle hookup. The nylon tube can have bends in it, but the braided cable still slides freely. Dubro sells this flex cable.

I use the braided cable too. Although I don't order it from any of the hobby manufacturers. You can pick it up at wal-mart, lowes, or other hardware stores. You can also get the small tubing to mount it in also. Just make sure that you solder both ends to keep them from fraying. Also, before you slide the cable into the tube squirt a little powdered graphite in the tube to help the cable move more freely.

My throttle set up on Decathlon w/ Saito 91 is like yours ( 3rd picture ) and I wonder about the way the cable follows the arc of the servo arm. It seems to add a lot of drag as the arm moves from idle to wot.
Do you allow the plastic sleeve to move where it exits the firewall ? My 91s has to be installed close to the fire wall on the Seagull Decath and that leaves very little cable extended from the firewall. This short cable does not have much flexabilty.

I tries the plasic flex stuff once for throll linkage and it meltded , too close to the muffler. opps. A stright shot with music wire, z bent on one end and a quick connect on the servo side seem to do the job the best. The trick is getting the straight shot. Sometimes take a little thought. One resone I quit getting ARF airplanes since they rarley get this right. Flew cable is great also, I just rather not solder, thats just me though

I anchored the plastic sleeve at the servo end and firewall. It doesn't move. I tried moving the cable by hand, and there was not much drag as the throttle arm moves from idle to wot.

Here is how I anchor the tube. I put the braided wire in place inside the tube. I make sure that it is attached to the throttle arm at the carb and connect to the servo. This will give you the location of where the wire is going to be while you are using it. about an inch back from the servo end of the tube (you want it to be able to flex a little bit) I will carve a scrap block of wood to fit between the fuselage side and the tube. Use a sharpened piece of brass tubing to carve out the block to the tube fits into the block of wood. I then use 5 minute epoxy to glue it all into place. Let me know if you have any questions, if you do I'll get a plane down this evening and take a picture of how I install it.

That's similiar to what I did in Post #3 above (see pictures). I also made sure that the plastic sleeve at the servo end was at the same height as the EZ connector on the servo arm.

Im probably way off the thread but, how do I determine the CG on the Stock Stryker. I have the combat module to account for. And secondly, what will the CG on the bare foam model be before installing anything??

On Saito 4S installations I have had the smoothest operating throttle setup by using music wire with sleeve-let the wire go past the throttle hook up about 2 inches - make two 90 bends 1/2"-3/4" apart and attach to throttle on front side. You have to plan ahead for the throttle wire to line up properly but the extra run of wire makes for a smooth operating setup.

Wish I had thought of this idea but it has been posted many times as a good way to hook up a throttle on 4S due to short distance to fire wall.

Using a stranded cable inside nylon tube will allow easier routing around engine mounts and fuel tank. If you have a straight, uninterupted path between the servo and throttle, a wire pushrod will work well. I would not recommend using Z bends on both ends of a wire, but rather a Z bend on the servo end, and a threaded clevis or ball joint on the throttle end. There are two reasons. 1, it will allow you to make adjustments, and 2, I have heard (but not personally witnessed) that the metal-metal connection of the Z bend and throttle arm (or any metal arm) can potentialy cause radio interference.

Thanks for the response fellas! Whats your idea of a flex cable with a ball end and a clasp on the other. The cable would be the sullivan push cable...

you can find both in the hardware deptment. the braided cable is used to hang pictures with.
