has anyone tried using JB Weld to seal the cut line on a cannister header..ie.Cutting the header to the proper angle to allow the cannister to line up inside the tunnel.Instead of welding the cut...what about using JB Weld.It Says it can take up to 900*F....but my concern is the vibration?

I have used JB Weld to join a broken muffler and the results did not last long. This was aluminum and on a glow engine, but I think your results will be similar. There is just too much vibration to hold up over time.

I have not had any problems using JB Weld. I have used it on small glow engine mufflers and a header and tuned pipe for a .61, among otherthings. What ever you are oing to weld must be clean and free of any oil, and I have also found that if you "cure" it in an oven at 175 or 200 degrees it seems to produce a stronger bond.

I use JBweld for combat plane exhaust construction with excellent results.
The join must be absolutely clean, and then sanded with 120-100 grit paper. In addition, a generous metal overlap should be provided where the bond is, so the end result will be as strong as the base metal. If an overlap cannot be created from the original metal, bond a strip of scrap sheet over the seam to provide the lap. These are general rules for bonding metal.
I harden the assemblies in an oven at 100 degrees C.

Why not just silver solder it?

Like aluminum? Or when the steel sheet is very thin, which makes brazing not practical. The metal would warp too much.

Agreed, but if you read his post, its to seal a cut made in the header pipe to align the cannister. Seems to me silver solder would work quite well in this application, much better than JB weld, and just as easy to apply.

You are right. I forgot about the header bit.
