Been out doing some more side hovering and a little bit of forward flight and im very happy with my Eco 7! the only thing that didnt work was I had an attempt at was nose-in hover and had to turn it back round again rather quick more sim practice needed i think, lol

how you getting on with your Eco mate?

Ian

One thing I've learned that always got me out of trouble if i was about to crash! Always Gun the throttle and gain altitude as fast as possible! Altitude is your best friend! sometimes your so afraid of breaking the heli that all you want to do is get it back on the ground as fast as possible, But that's always your biggest mistake!

Great picture mate! Whenever I am flying, I tend to be just above ground effect level so if I need to bring it down quickly I can do. But on my next flight I will gain altitude and see how it handles. Are there any things to look out for except wind?....

cheers,

Ian

Here's hint for ya Loving it, That's a nice photo, but if you now have the skill to be flying that high as I see in the photo posted, You can get rid of your training gear, Your ready to fly without it.............

Yes Wind Gust !
You need to get around 5 feet above the ground the eco will all most hover its self. As long as there are no wind gust! The wind gust will not only push you it can lift your helacopter 3 or 4 feet in a blink of an eye!

I did that was my last flight with the training gear .Do you have any other pointers for us new guys that may help . I would like to hear about them instead of finding out on my own it seems better to have some one tell us than find out the hard way!

Thanks

I have a little bit of advice and that is to put a small piece of ribbon around the antenna of your transmitter so you can almost refer to it as a wind sock to see what direction the wind is going. Also when your doing slow forward flight you only need a small amount of input with the forward stick, as the Eco will just move forwards as simple as that but you will find this on most CP helis anyway.

This damn wind over here means I cant go out and use my heli, but the kite may go out instead!

cheers,

Ian

I would be interested to know where you guys have set the throttle/collective trimmer on the transmitter. I calibrated mine with it in the middle but I'm sure there must be a more sensible place. Also, have you discovered how easy it is to repair the fuselage?. If not try the following. Fill the damage with balsa filler and sand smooth. Paint with vinyl matt house paint ( the stuff you use on ceilings ) and sand with finishing paper. The repair is almost invisible and takes about 10 minutes with the aid of a hair dryer.

I never looked in to changing the settings . Sorry I am no help to you with this. Thanks for the info on the repairs. I did make a repair on the tail fin. When I got the eco 7 one of the fins was cracked off its not like I was going to send it back for a shipping claim I was ready to PLAY . Hot glue gun a white pant work good also.

Tip on hovering get a little altitude to get the heli out of ground effect (rotor wash turbulence) and you will find learnign to hover much easier.

Olly - My throttle trim is also set in the middle but when you apply throttle, the blades start moving. The reason why is because if there was a chance I crash it, I wouldn't have to worry about burning any motors out. If your blades are still moving when you crash, there's always a chance of burning the motors out. Hope this helps.

But thinking about it, if the trim is set near the top with the blades spinning, you will get more of a throttle curve allowing for better reponse when you need it. This is something that is usually helpful with micro helis as well.

If I'm wrong then please correct me lol

cheers,

Ian

Well now I'm totally hooked! now capable of doing forward flight, figure of 8's and small circuits! this thing is brilliant when you hardly have any wind to compete with either. The only problem now is mastering the nose-in hover and its proving to be trickier than I anticpiated despite the practice using my g2 sim....

I will get it eventually, just need more practice but at the moment, the adrenaline is there and kicking Its such a good achievement when you can do something new (instead of hovering about in my case lol)

You guys having any progress at all?

cheers,

Ian
