FlyingFish -> Anybody have the New Eco 7.....??? (3/22/2005 4:35:56 AM)

Was wondering if anybody has test flown the Ikarus Eco 7. aside from wondering how it flies, I wanted to know if it was collective or Fixed Pitch? Also I understand it has a tail motor, Any problems with the tail motor burning out premature?

I would say go here to find out I am sure they would be better suited to tell you things about it. http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php

I have A Eco 7. It hovers good as for as flying I can only fly forwards and backwards. It seams to fly very good to me. A lot more stable than a Fixed Pitch micro. It's a collective Pitch set up with the GigaTronic board in the helicopter. The GigaTronic is set up ready to fly with a 4 ch radio all of the pitch settings ready to go . It comes with software & cord to plug in to your home PC to change the setting or you can use a better computer controlled radio with 6 CH . As fore as the tail motor burning out prematurely I don’t know I have only had it about 3 weeks.[[:D]

Thanks for the info! Did you have to balance the rotor blades or set the tracking in any way, or was that already done "out of the Box"?
Also is that Bell Ranger fuselage made out of plastic or styrofoam?
Also, did you have to make any adjustments to the gyro?

loveing it -> RE: Anybody have the New Eco 7.....??? (3/24/2005 1:38:42 AM)

The body is made of Styrofoam. To tell the truth I was not happy with that Intel. I made a hard nose landing on the front of the skids causing the mane blade to hit the ground. Unsnapping one of the link arms from the mane blade causing a tail strike.[:o] The only damage was an indention in the tail. Better than having to buy a new mane blades and a tail boom![;)]

I did need to set the tracking the gyro was ok.
Let me say this there is a little set up to do. To let the GigaTronic know what ch radio you are using.

FlyingFish -> RE: Anybody have the New Eco 7.....??? (3/24/2005 4:26:42 AM)

Okay thanks again! But I think I'll just stick with my 2 Corona 120's................[:D]

loveing it -> RE: Anybody have the New Eco 7.....??? (3/24/2005 11:55:17 AM)

I understand that the Corona is one of the best beginner helicopters you can get. I looked into geting one but was not able to find much info . Than I came a cross the eco 7 and fell in love with the look. What's the fuselage length on the Corona. I was unable to find out its size.
Thanks

You can find Corona 120's at the following links above. But the Corona is 30 inches long with a 30 inch main rotor blade span. You can also get different custom fuselage covers for it, including the Bell Ranger 206.

ianlawrence21 -> RE: Anybody have the New Eco 7.....??? (4/26/2005 11:18:32 PM)

Hi guys. I also have the Eco 7 and so far I'm very impressed with it! A very stable bird even when there's a breeze, the current position I am in when it comes to flying is completing the hovering stages which I have now done and intend on doing some forward flight with this very soon. Loveing it - ensure that when the battery is connected that the heli is on the ground. It allows for the gigatronic unit to setup correctly. (Im sure you knew this already but was informing you just in case)

the only thing that has been playing up is the Ikarus battery pack you get with it. I think the unit has a dead cell so it needs to be replaced. But my Sanyo 2400Mah battery pack works fine except the temperature when finished using is very hot. You can keep it in your hands for a couple of seconds then it becomes too much. So my question is are these battery packs supposed to get so hot? I am also wondering if the Milliamps is less than required meaning it's working alot harder than the standard Ikarus battery (3000Mah) and therefore becomes very hot to touch...

thanks for the help and I hope this information is of some use to you.

With regards,

Ian

p.s a picture of it before take off [:D] i love this pic!!!

Glad to hear from some one that has a eco 7 also. Did you try charging your Ikarus battery at a 1 or 2 amp charge. The reason I ask is because I was charging my battery a 4 amps giving me a 45 min charge however it got to where I was loosing flight time. So I set the charger to 1 amp 3 hour charge and then for the next charge 2 amps 1 and ½ hours. That worked for me. As for as your 2400Mah battery getting that hot I don’t know. I do know that my battery pack after flying gets hot! I can hold it for about to the count of 5.

COOL photo! They look so sweet!

ianlawrence21 -> RE: Anybody have the New Eco 7.....??? (4/27/2005 9:53:46 PM)

thats something i have yet tried and will do later, thanks for the help mate! do you have any other pictures or video clips at all? The only other good pic I have is the heli fleet - thought i'd share it with you guys.

cool. I have seen these videos before and really like how hes using a 9cell battery which is probably the highest amount of cells you can use i think. Aerobatics is far away from me at the moment, I'm too busy starting my forward flight [8D] how are you getting on with your eco 7 loveing it??

Ian

know of any more vids [:D]

loveing it -> RE: Anybody have the New Eco 7.....??? (4/28/2005 4:48:46 AM)

Well I know thay make a LiPo cell battery pack for the eco7. I am thinking about getting one. Just for more flight time.
As for as my flying I can hover at the tail, fly forward and backwards. Hover a little with the nose facing left. I have made some training gear. Just incase. [:)] working more on mastering hovering left then right. last facing me. Its a long road ahead.[&o]

ianlawrence21 -> RE: Anybody have the New Eco 7.....??? (4/28/2005 12:12:16 PM)

Although some people might be against the idea, I reckon a simulator like realflight G3 would be ideal for your situation. Before each time I go out to use my heli, I spend half an hour practicing and it really does work for me. You get to master the orientation elements as well as the handling of a heli without damaging a real heli. I know how your feeling about it though, you want to do these things but are worried about the crashing side of things! So really my advice is to perhaps obtain a simulator and take things one at a time. Or you could even consider flying lessons as another resort if in doubt.... A good resource I have heard many people talk about is the Radds school of heli-flying, that might be of some help to you.

The Lipo battery idea sounds really good but that will cost a fortune because of needing alot more cells than a usual sort of lipo (2 or 3 I think, could be wrong!)

hope this helps you mate.

cheers,

Ian

I do Have a simulator I have the free one (FMS) the only thing it responds a lot faster than my eco 7 . making it a little unrealistic. Worked good enough it get me to this point . I just wish It was not so touchy. its a lot like my micro.

Happy forward flying
[:D]

ianlawrence21 -> RE: Anybody have the New Eco 7.....??? (4/29/2005 11:40:45 AM)

Anyway of turning the gain down? Are there any options for calibration etc? My micro is very touchy as well, its a Twister Cp and at the moment, the head is completely destroyed after a spectacular crash I had the other day with it doing some FF.

Despite the crashing, I love this hobby [:D]

Cheers,

Ian

Do you have any in-flight photos of your eco 7 that are good quality?? I was after some you see and at the moment cant fly and take photos at the same time! I wish I could though....

cheers,

Ian

No the only one I have is a photo of me hovering with the training gear. I had someone take with my camera phone. [8D]

ianlawrence21 -> RE: Anybody have the New Eco 7.....??? (5/2/2005 12:37:20 PM)

Cool pic mate! I am getting alot more confident now, but it's only when I gain altitude that I experience slight orientation difficulties. The wind pushed it backwards towards me and I had to move out the way damn quick [X(] [:D] Apart from that it's going really well.

Have you had any problems with your Eco 7?

Cheers,

Ian

loveing it -> RE: Anybody have the New Eco 7.....??? (5/3/2005 12:05:47 AM)

No problems So for so good. [:D]
I try not to fly when theirs a lot of wind. Which has been the case lately. Seeing how I am in the learning stage I don’t feel that good trying some thing new having to fight with the wind. As for as hovering from the tail I handle the wind ok. As for as the wind pushing you backwards I know just what you mean A wild back I was hovering a bout 25 to 30 feet. I get brave some time. The wind pushed the helicopter back over my head and I over reacted a little a nosed it forwent and back off the altitude when it started to come down it was little to fast for me to pick it up again the helicopter hit the ground hard on the front of the skids causing the mane blade to hit the ground. Unsnapping one of the link arms from the mane blade causing a tail strike. The only damage was an indention in the tail.[X(]

ianlawrence21 -> RE: Anybody have the New Eco 7.....??? (5/3/2005 1:24:26 PM)

The chap I know who works at my LHS has had a few blade strikes before and the link arm goes every time. I was watching him fly at a local model flying patch and when he crashed, I was suprised the tail boom survived but as usual, the link arm was damaged. I was also suprised at how the fuselage was fine despite what material it is.... (thought it would of suffered alot of damage but was impressed to not even see a scratch)

Cant fly at the moment, too much rain.... [:o] one thing I hate about the UK - at times the weather is nice, then the next day is rainy and windy. typical weather.

Happy hovering!

Ian
