I have a question for anyone that has the Pershing tank. How tight would you recomend the tracks should be? The idle wheels are a bit frustrating. I cannot find a happy medium. The tracks are either too loose or too tight. Any suggestions?

You are right there are only 3 settings for tension too loose too tight or way too loose. go to backyardarmor.com and order their upgraded tension kit it is way more adjustable than the OE one and its very easy to install!!

Where in NY are you?
Do you have the Battle System for your tank?
Interested in RC combat?
I'm in Connecticut, just about the middle of the state.
You can check out my website
www.tankhobby.com

I had trouble on the Danville battlefield last may with my Pershing. I had to run the Sherman because the Pershing kept throwing tracks. The discs in the middle of the sprockets were the main casue of the problem, the idler adjustment needed more range. The Backyard armor upgrade should do the trick. I was also able to obtain some Sherman sprockets for the Pershing, they were recommended in place of the stock ones for running at Danville. So at a minimum I would get the Backyard armor idler kit, then see how it goes from there.

I live in Buffalo, NY.
No battle system yet but my friend and I are very close to buying two.
I am interested in combat.

I checked out your web site and I must say, I am very impressed. I looks very cool. My friend and I are the only ones that we know of in our immidiate area that have the Tamiya RC tanks. We have been busy with work and with the Buffalo weather, it has been hard getting out to use them this past few months. The Pershing does give us trouble sometimes. It either has an issue with the tracks or the turret has difficulties traversing. It is very tight in the hull of the Pershing. Issues are minor and easily fixed but sometimes get annoying. The Tiger II on the other hand is basically problem free. There are only two issues with it. One is the plastic resin tracks, the pins keep backing out. I solved this by putting a dab of locktight on them. No more backing out! The other issue is with the gearbox. It has a lot of play in it. I have used the Tiger II the most and it is just from wear and tear. This past summer I used it for about on average 5 hours a week. The battery would last about an hour every time. I just ordered two new gearboxes for it. The Persing does not have this problem yet. I have had to modify the gun elevation and the turret traversing units on both tanks. The clutch in them slips too much.

On a side note, are you selling any half tracks? My friend has been asking me to find him one. I saw yours and it looks nice.

The Pershing was my first tank and the turret traverse gave me A LOT of trouble. Basically it's the slip clutch that is part of the small gear that contacts the turret ring gear. I stuffed cross sections of rubber bands into the gap to give it more strength, some people use crazy glue to stiffen it up. An additional fix is to use wire wraps to stiffen the gear assembly. It's hard to explain but check out:

http://www.sead.us/technology2.html

There's a photo that should help a lot plus a lot of other good info.

I modified the insides of my Pershing to make more room, the biggest was cutting into the speaker box. I can pull the model out and take some pictures. But with some thinking and patients you can work it out. My Pershing right now is my best operating tank. I'm hesitant to change anything on it.

I know a guy in Queens NY and he's the closest tanker I'm aware of. He's moderator of a Yahoo group:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/queenspanzergroup/?yguid=126067205

I have two German 251's still in the box but I'm not sure if I want to part with them. You can find them on ebay every now and then. These are 1/18 scale, a little small but they fit in well. The company that makes them has started releasing some items again like the Sherman & Panther. They had a PzKw IV I saw recently.

If you have any desire to head South East you are more than welcome to battle on my battlefield. It's about 35 feet by 72 feet. Just let me know!

Hey Digger 1976....Way to go...Nice Tank...I am sure your other Tanks are just as nice... Yeah I love the KT and T1,,, I am gonna order that upgraded idler as well...LT DAN is right.. I have noted that if you run it on concrete or asphalt it is fine stock...as soon as you go outside in the real terrain is when it will throw a track...
Happy Tanking...

With some ingenuity anyone can come up with a fix for the tanks. For the clutch slipping on the traversing unit and the gun elevation unit, I had melted extra plastic on the two little nubs on the clutch piece and molded it. It stiffened up the clutch and now I have no more problems. I had used a lighter and a Dremel to make this modification. Gotta love the Dremel.
I have been looking for a review for the King Tiger on the web and have not found any. Do you know of any? I am just curious to find out what other people think of the King Tiger. It seems like most people have the Pershing or the Tiger I.
I am interested in visiting your battlefield, but it may not happen for awhile. Do you get a lot of people showing up on the weekends?

The Pershing that I have is at my friends house. I am picking it up on Sunday. I used it last week when the weather thawed and it got too muddy to put in my car. I will take a picture and post it up on Sunday night. Sorry, I just entered the 21st century. I just bought a digital camera not too long ago.
In my opinion the Pershing and the King Tiger are well worth the money. I have not bought any after market mods for them but I am considering some. I must say, I am 28 and have never been big on RC vehicles or toys for that matter, but these tanks are awsome. I am hooked now.

*I am working on a fix for the Pershing 'high grass' issue. If you have one, you know what I am talking about. Since the sprocket drives are in the rear of the tank, when the tanks moves forwards it pulls in the grass inbetween the tracks and the sprockets ultimately slowing it down. I have picked up some aluminum sheets and plan on developing a skirt that will cover and help reduce the amount of grass the gets tangled up in the sprockets. With this fix, I do not expect to totaly eliminate the grass intake but at least reduce it by 50 to 70 percent. I will keep everyone posted on this. The other tanks don't have this issue since the sprockets are in the front.*

Does anyone else have any other ideas for this issue?

I got rid of the Y connector in the Pershing to make more room in the hull. Also, I managed to have the battery connectors close to the rt hatch so I can pull out the connector and charge the battery w/o taking off the turret. The King Tiger has enough room in the hull to stick in another battery or a small boy. Just kidding about the boy part.

Dose anyone have any ideas of where I can reposition my on off switch for the Tiger II for easier access?
