I am building a computer for AFPD and ordered AFPD today. I got an ATI 9800 pro 128 for the machine. Could anyone tell me what they are using for a monitor and what is their favorite? I prefer an LCD and have heard good things about the hundai LCDs. I am open to looking at CRTs. What is the naitive resolutions for AFPD? Is a 16x9 aspect better?

I don't see anything in those specs about a response time...for lcd's you want a maximum of 16ms anything over isn't worth getting for gaming and sims. Another thing to look at is the pixel pitch...it's over .29 which basically means that the pictures or frames wont have as much detail to them as with a lower pitch...most decent crt's have a .25 or lower pitch and the better ones have.24 and it's rare to see them any lower than that.

I guess it depends on serious oyu are about the graphics on your monitor...right now the crt's still have the lead on lcd's for overall picture quality but the lcd's are catching up but they are not there yet.

I run it on a 22" Mitsubishi CRT. I have been waiting for a large LCD to get a reasonable refresh rate but haven't seen one yet. If you don't mind a smallish one (17" you can get <17ms refresh. I have run it on my 55 inch HD TV which has a 15 Pin Analog input. That pretty much rocks... It makes me want to get a cheaper computer that is always hooked up to it.

The one show on that link is Hyundai L90D+. It has 8ms respond time. As fast as you can get on a 19' consumer LCD today. The older L90D has 25ms respond time

Got a 3 monitor (CRT) set up using 2 for AFPD and other for whatever. LCD would be nicer, lower power requirements, low profile, etc.
Once these go, be replacing one at a time with 17"-19" inchers. For now, it's working great. Multiple monitors is the way to go !
Great Sim (AFPD) by the way, an enhancement over my EasyFly Sim.

Apparently my information is dated... here is a 20" with a 16 ms response.

If my CRT ever dies something like this will replace it.

.294 for pixel pitch for 19"lcd is fine for games. Most of today's consumer 19" lcd is the same pixel pitch. Just go to a retail shop to check them out see if the dot ptich bothers you. In any worse case, just put the LCD a bit further away from you on the desk

If you can wait for a few more years, we may started to see hi-definition lcd on desktop. HD LCDs are mostly for notebooks these days.

about the big pixel things makin the edges blocky,

some video cards have Anti-aliasing on them, i turned that on for FS2004, made everything look alot better. The whole picture seems better,

but don't put it on too much or your computer will be very slow.

If you right click on the desktop, go to properties, then settings then advanced, and there should be a tab with your video card on it, and if you find Performance and Quality, there should be some bars that say anti-aliasing. If it is checked "Application Controlled" and you don't like how it is, uncheck the box and move the slider to the first notch, try it, and if you want more, move to next notch, etc. But it might get slower and slower if you make it too much.

I just got my commander version and I'm using a Dell 2005FPW LCD wide view monitor. Color and graphics is great. Much more field of view than my 19" CRT monitor.
