This afternoon the red and white airplane truck came, not the brown auirplane truck. Cedear Hobbies sent the plane by FedEx.

You may wonder about this plane, it is an ARF twin of course, but why should you pay $130 for a twin stick when the Twinstar is the same price? It is choosing a trainer or a fully capable aerobat, to start with.

Let's compare specs.

Wingspan Star 56", Stick 66"
Length Star 40", Stick 48"
Area Star 560 sq", Stick 875 sq"
Airfoil Star semisymmetric, Stick fully symmetric.

So as you see, in spite of the price similarity, the Twin Stick is a lot bigger plane.

More later.

Bill.

I have been waiting for this plane to hit full production!

It would be my first twin.

I would be putting a set of OS .46 AX's on ...(well ALMOST sure)..with Macs mufflers...since th P-Box 's that come with the AX are HUGE.

Since this would by my first twin, how does it fly for a "Beginner" in twins.

I have always likes sticks...and this looks like a sweet way to try my hand with a twin.

Thanks
Larry

Larry:

With a pair of hot 46 engines it will be a rocket ship. I'm intending to use a pair of K&B Q40 engines, I will not be surprised if it hits 120 or so in level flight.

It's not what I would suggest as a first twin, but if you are comfortable with a hot single engined stick you'll be OK - just watch for an engine going out.

Even so, this one looks like it wont be too bad on one engine, but like any twin you can get in trouble quickly.

The Twin-Air 45 is still my recommended first twin.

Bill.

Larry,
I flew the prototype and reviewed it here. It does fly like a stick and will fly safely with only one engine. In fact, ( I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS) I did touch and goes with one engine and have witnesses. It is full aerobatic as is a stick. Landing is no big deal. What I liked about it is that it can do most anything you want to try....including a bunch you should not with aggressive programing.
Have fun.

PS The prototype did not survive the "Testing".....I WAS NOT AT THE CONTROLS!! See the review in this forum. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2493418/mpage_1/key_new%2Carf/tm.htm

William.
I got the opportunity to take a picture of Cedar Hobbies new plane with a Hobbico Twinstar to add to your information.
Have not flown the new one yet, but the ailerons are a much large size than the original. Should be fun.
Note from the pictures the difference in rudder and aileron surfaces.

I have a pair of Mag 52 4-strokers that really need a home. I won the local NASCAR pool today, so maybe I will just put that cash to good use, & order one of these tomorrow.

Terry, I am doing just as you stated, a pair of Mag 52's. Should have her completed by the weekend, course the forcast is for more rain.

See notes in Twin Stick Build

Has anyone tried to put throttle servos in this thing . The mount is located too low and you cannot put the nacelle cover on with a servo in place. Not even with an HS-81. I guess I will try some some small 11oz micros that I have. And whats with that .20 size landing gear?
Here's a pic of the way the servo fits, and maybe they just sent the wrong gear.

TLH:

I had already decided to change the throttle servos, to use standards. Wait until you get to the aileron servos.

That's the same gear I got. If you are on pavement it should hold up fine, if you're a grass field flier you might want to form up a wire gear for the plane.

Bill.

I had to enlarge the throttle opening and lowered the servo into the wing. The Aileron went in fine. As for the landing gear, I had a larger LG gear on the shelf so installed in place of the supplied.

I spoke to Neil yesterday and for the first production run not all that bad, He is concerned about the quality and is reading all our comments.

I know he is looking for feed back and from what I have read we can give him so good pointers and possible fixes.

Engine mounting tonight. And then the balancing begins.

Well, I have solved the throttle servo dilemma. Used an HS 81 servo.
Bill, I see what you mean about the aileron servos. The openings in mine are 2 1/4" long .

OK, my bad. I cut the openings for the wing servos, and the holes are not too long. The servos are actually recessed into the wing a slight amount.
