Rich is rich. If you drop the peak rpm by 3-400 rpm on the needle you are running rich no matter how much or little smoke it develops. Not all engines smoke like steamers and I guess type of fuel used will also greatly affect that. It seems like about 10000 rpm on master k-series 14-6 is what you should expect on a good running mag 91, I get 10200 rpm peak

I have 2 Magnum 91 fs and they both turn an APC 14x6 at 10300 - 10500 (sustained, not peak) on Morgan 15% nitro all synthetic oil.
I also have an OS 91 Surpass with the same prop and fuel that turns 10200 sustained. All the engines idle and transition perfectly and are very reliable. ~500ft and its always 80 - 105 degrees.

I just picked up another Magnum 91 FS. I hope I can turn a 15x6 @ 10000 rpm on 30% nitro. It will be just what my UCD 60.

I just ordered one from Tower.

I get 10K on a 14x6 MAS K on my OS FS 91 at sea level and cool weather.

I just ran three tanks through a new Magnum 91 on Sunday.
No problems at all.
I did not peak the engine and I won't for a while.
Since it is on a PT-60 it may run with this needle setting for a very long time.
9200 RPM sustained with MA 14x6 & 15% fuel, the engine is running very rich but it is steady and the transition from low to high is very good.
I am going to fly the plane tomorrow, I may lean it out some more to see what it will really do.

Well I now have a Magnum 91 that only turns 9000 with Apc 14x6 on 15% fuel. Not sure why this one is different. It runs perfectly but it is >1k off what the others do. I may have to check the valves and see if they need to be adjusted.
