I purchased the MDS 1.48 to go in a GP Giles 202but I read in RC Report that there might be a mid range question as to the transition. Has anyone out there that has this engine powering any type airplane? Thanks

Though I have several MDS engines, I do not have a 1.48. But from reading the forums, there is a possiblity that you will be disapointed with the way it runs. Seems as though the carb from a OS 91 or something simular like one from a ASP or Magnum 1.08 works OK and makes everyone happy. The ASP types are around $34 but the OS are twice as expensive. Just Engines sells a Jen ten pro carb that looks like the OS 6x size carb for around $30.

I would try running it on the bench first and see what you have. There seems to be a problem with the over all amount of fuel that the original carb lets through.

Good luck

Jim

Unless MDS has changed the carb, pick up an ASP 108 carb. It is a direct slip in and will take any guess work out of the engine. It is clear that the exerpiences written about on the internet sites have made the RC mags take notice.
Shortly after the 1.48 came out, I read a review in MAN. They, of course, had no trouble with the engine and how it ran. I read another (In RCM??) giving the same report. but at the same time there were volumes written on RCO about the problems with this engine and the possile fixes - everything from plugging one of the exhaust outlets to drilling the spray-bar. But the $35 solution is the ASP carb. It WILL make a diffierence.

Nik - You penurious Yankee. Where have you been hiding since you left RCO? Did you put the ASP 108 carb on your MDS 148 before or after you lost the Sig Cap ARF. I vaguely recall your story about the mishap.
