I just ordered this plane and it's on backorder till mid-June.

I have patiently read thru 37 pages of this thread and skipped ahead, hoping that the gear issue was resolved by this page.

Before that, I put a call into Horizon asked if the new batch has a "fix" for this ongoing problem. I'm awaiting a response and have my fingers crossed.

Meanwhile, can you tell me what the general consensus is as far as servo choice and is the previous recommendation of rudder reinforcement still necessary?

No, they have not fixed the landing gear issue. I just purchased my kit in late March early April and just had this problem with it delaminating after about 8 flights. I put the aluminum gear on and have not had any problems. Although it is a little more weight than the cf gear. My plane comes in just over 16 pounds anyway, but I'm not stressing it with all the 3D, so it should be fine. With the DA50 motor and the MTW 75K cannister muffler, it sounds way cool and is very quiet.

I reinforced my rudder with the c/f rod as you've seen previously. I did not have the problem before reinforcing the rudder, and have not had any problems since. I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.

I have JR DS8711 servos all the way around except for the throttle.
One of the really good flyers at our field said that those servos worked GREAT, very fast and responsive. He said it almost makes him want to go out and get one of these kits as well. Although using that size servo does force you to sand out each mounting hole to make room.

    Have fun. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Those with DA-50's what Tygon tubing size are you using? Neither the DA-50 manual nor the H9 manual say specifically. Will the small size work OK?

I'm using 1/8 Tygon. I also have tied off all the ends with the small wires you can buy in packs.
I also soldered ridges around the fittings on the brass tubes on the fuel tank and tied with wires so they will not slide off (inside and outside the tank).

So far everything has worked great with no leaks.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. I started with that but didn't have enough so I went and got more but just asked for the small size thinking that's what I had, it wasn't. The smaller fit the fuel tank better but not the engine, the larger fit the engine and my DA filler stop better but wasn't as snug on the tank side. I also did the solder and wire ties but now I will have to take the tank apart again and put the larger back, oops!

Ah yes, the extra work sucks the big one but that peace of mind, money can't buy..... and be glad you were smart enough to ask.

Check out the response from Hangar 9 regarding the ongoing landing gear delamination:

I wrote them again and attached a picture - stating it hasn't been "CORRECTED"
    Still no response......Go FIGURE.

ps One friend's recommending the Hitec 5985's
One says the 5625's are good enough for the A&E and the 5645 for the rudd.
What does anyone think of those apples?

If your going to take it apart you should change the piping too! The supplied piping isnt 1/8 id.

Also since your taking it apart ...go to your local weedwhacker supplier and ask for walbro part #125-527-1! youll be happy you did!

I like the felt clunks, but if you use a "T" fitting and a fuel dot that will prevent junk from getting into the tank, but it just goes straight to the engine! What I do is use a felt clunk inside the 2-gal fuel jug, then I use an in-line filter between the fuel dot and the "T" fitting. That way the fuel is thoroughly filtered before it even gets to the tank. Also, use an in-line filter on the vent line, because there is a little negative pressure there and it could eventually suck in some debris.

I noted that as well, thanks for that confirmation too.

I have not done the following yet, but was told by one of my club flyers (who is really good), said to do the following:

When you take back apart your fuel tank, on the inside, the line leading to the clunk cut in half, then insert a piece of brass tubing and put the line back together again.

He said this helps if you are into some strong aerobatics or 3D it prevents the clunk from folding all the way around and possibly getting stuck in the front of the tank. Where it may not pick up well, since the line would be folded over. He said he has seen that happen before and then the engine shuts off. Not to good he said if you're hovering 15 feet off the ground.

Just be sure to solder and wire wrap that middle tube too. I have heard the same advice although I am not (despite the parent topic this thread is under) planning on doing violent 3D myself. Then again there is always the "unplanned" 3D that happens sometimes.
