Status: offline 		they should be fine, alot depends on your style, if you are a "stick yanker" and very agressive, step it up a bit. For regular to moderate aerobatics and 3D your choice is OK

Just spent the last three days reading EVERY post in this monster. I'm putting another one together; I killed my first one right after getting the BGX-1 sorted and running well last year. Naturally, I have misplaced most of my "build notes" from the first one, so I wanted to remember all the gremlins that await...

I think this would be fine, the fuse is strong enough to carry large batterys.
How big would the prop be? 20" or bigger

Status: offline 		I'm thinking the new OS GT33 and this airframe would be the perfect match. Has anyone had a chance to try this combo yet? It's too bad Great Planes quit making the Gene Saucy Extra 300 and the Patty Wagstaff Extra 300 as both of these planes were a little too small for the popular light weight 50cc engines but should be great with the new 33cc OS as well.

Quite a few other brands that are equially built and available to take 30cc gas now.

I have spent the last few days reading all 3587 posts, and still have a few questions, so here goes.

New to the forum but not to the hobby.  I have been flying for over 19 years on and off.  I have never had a gasser but I am concidering this one as my first.  The local hobby shop offered me the plane with a Evolution 50GX combo at a really good price. I have a couple other smaller electric 260s, and I really love the way they fly.  That and cost is what has brought me to the H9 260.  Does anyone have any experience with the Evo 50GX in this plane?  I know it is 6oz heavier than the DA50 or the DLE55. Will that cause a problem?  I have been looking at the Areo Works 260 with a DLE55 as well as the Pilot RC 260 with DLE55, but they are conciderably more money. 

Any advice would be appriceated.

Status: offline 		Mainden mine yesterday powered by a Saito 220 and all I can say is wow. This is the first airframe that required no trim. I always trim at 3/4 throttle setting and as I said no trim was required. The CG was set at 27% and no balance weight was required other than shifting the onboard flight battery (6V) forward to the engine box. Advancing the throttle forward slowly, give a little right rudder and the tail comes up. Tracking on the ground with a slight up elevator command and its' airborne. All controls were set-up for IMAC and I found zero coupling problems. I plan on taking it out again on Friday and hopefully can duplicate the same flight conditions with less wind than I had on Tuesday. One last thing I will point out is the color scheme. If you extend the landing pattern the visual on the airframe is impaired executing the final turn on the landing approach. By this I mean the plane dissappears for a few seconds. You can either three point or wheel land this model and it makes no difference to the plane.

Get a proper 50cc airframe if using a 50cc motor, its $ well spent, the H9 is kinda small for gas and you will want to step up into another plane right away.

Status: offline 		I have a saito fg36 gas 4 cycle
And it will turn an 18 x 8 prop about 7500 to 8000 rpm
I have a zenoah g38
And it will turn 18 x 8 prop about 7400 rpm

If you have saito 220 nitro
It will have more power than the gas engines with that same size prop
I am not certain as to how much more rpm you will get

If you use the dle engine
You can expect those same numbers with that size prop

On my plane, I use a da50 cc gas engine
And it turns a 20 x 6 prop about 6500 rpm
Top speed of plane is 120 or so
With wind behind it
Just to give you idea on airframe stresses
It has withstood this engine and prop so far for over 30 flights
Each flight 10 minutes long

Hope this helps you

If you use the dle engine
I am sure your airframe will last a long long time

the engine must be detuned to only get 6500 on a 20x8
this is all wrong
wrong plane for engine, wrong prop for motor
wrong rpm ???
wrong speed 120 MPH is absurd

for my da 50, i use a 23 x 8 mejzlik.
it will get about 6500 rpm
i used a Garmin, and speed was 120 mph
this was in an extra 260
27% by hangar 9 

i have a 35 cc nitro engine that i have used 20 x 8 prop, and with this one, i get about 8000 rpm. (OS BGX, 3500)

120 is absurd, i know, but that is what Garmin says.

Status: offline 		I did not watch the vids, but from past experience and other similar set ups and RC fliers, I would asume that 75-90 MPH is likely topping out for a 50cc mid wing arobat on any direct prop. perhaps wrong, but the speed racers could easily verify.

Status: offline 		i was using the Garmin, and it records average speed, top speed, time, distance travelled.
don't know if when plane was being flown and i did a split s with WOT, on its down turn, maybe that is where it picked up that speed that got that recording.  i doubt it does that flying level.

also, this airplane, i do not believe was intended for a 50 cc.  maybe more like 35 or 40 cc

reason is say so, is that on maiden flight, BTW, when i built the plane, i used the radio, servos, and receiver recommended by H9.  on maiden flight, within 2 to 3 minutes of flight, i lost control of bird, i was able to escape with minimal damage.  guess what happened, the recommended ailerons servos had stripped gears.  telling me, the engine was too much for this bird.  anyways, i have flown her now, probably over 30 times since then, and she flies great.  i did have to get rid of the evolution 50 cc and i purchased a DA 50, which is way better.

Its not entirely suitable for any any 50cc on the market
Its desigened for a 1.6 to 2.2 nitro or a 35 to 40cc light high preformance light gas.
If you bought a a DA 50, get yourself a full frame 50cc airframe of any choice, you will love the improved difference... ALOT.

Status: offline 		the airplane was sold to me as a special on horizon hobby with the motor and plane as a combo.  can't believe i paid 1350 for it.  that was my first plane i bought.  i learned my lesson.
