Just got done building and flying my new Yak, all I can say is wow.
I only got to fly the plane for a limited time(3 1/2 mins.) because of wind, and I didnt have sunglasses so I couldnt see very good.

I set up my tail feathers like my dads(Tman) Instead of the pull-pull cables I used carbon fiber pushrods and I am getting monster throws and it is very strong.

Another thing is that I couldnt find my apc 10x3.8 so I had to fly with an apc 9x4.5 and it is pretty sluggish coming out of a hover.
Once I get the other prop it will pull out agressively.

Here is my setup:
Jeti 8 amp. ESC
3 HS-55 servos
Hitech electron 6 Rx
AXI 2208/34

AUW w/TP 730 mAH. 12.25 ounces
AUW w/TP 1320 mAH. 14.15 ounces

It wont let me put up pics now so I will later

except the 12x6 i use the 11x8 other than that use the hs-55 servos (3) they work great enjoy the 50% throttle hover because the other 50% is for blast off!!!! .....take your time landing even if the security guard is yelling at you
.........youll love this foamie

Will the 11*8 give me more time to fly with my battery pack?

Here are my pics-- I have not yet braced my front end or the sides of the fuse.
The only thing is that I hate the freakin wind

Windy enough day and night to the point where I am grounded all the time
My ESC, and motor cant handle a prop that big without burning up. 11x8 is WAY too much prop. I also prefer APC props.

By the way Tman, did you order me a 10x3.8, I am wishing that I had one right now.

fly n 3d you will be fine with the 11x8 for the setup you quoted
its the high power outdoor setup and yesterday i met 3 more 3d fliers all very impressed with the yak and this setup..............i was hovering long in 10 mph wind
the yak would hover backwards through the sky then i would fly it back to me it was
very fun and reminded me of flying a kite lol

i also get 20minutes with this rig 15 if i fly ballistic

Just got 3 flights on mine and I agree with everyone, good job Quique!

My set up is;
stock 6.6:1 gearbox
Eflite 370 brushless motor 4100kv
stock 12/6 prop
Phoenix-10 ESC
TP1320-3s

Full throttle amps = 14

It pulls out of a hover just fine and I get around 15 mins of great fun per charge. Now I need more batteries!

SigMan, To tell you the truth- I doubt you will find a foamy that flies as well as this yak.
Although I have never flown one of the EFL ultimate bipes, I have heard good things about them--They are supposed to be good 3D trainers. I have also heard that you should NOT use the stock brushed motor--

Just got a few more flights in on my yak - I was doing some walls and I noticed after about the socond one there was something wrong with the right aileron. I brought it down no problem and I found that the CA hinge next to the control horn had pulled out of the wing- I guess there is such a thing as too many g's Oh well, it is an easy fix.

i use 5min. clear epoxy around the control horns and your on the right path with the ultimate just be sure to rig it with compatible brushless so someday you can putt the electronics on the yak i did that with the tribute and saved some money in the long run

I just got my yak, and there is a very pronounced curve to the fuse. Should I be worried about this?

Yes you should worry about a bow in the fuse. Take it back to the hobby shop or call whoever you ordered it from.
It will NOT fly right.

if you have already built it the bow in the fuse could be from an overtightened pull/pull, if not, return that puppy... between me and another guy at the shop, 4 yaks have been sent out, 2 crushed in shipping, 1 damaged but fixable, and one in good shape w/ one small chip in foam...

I didn't notice the curve until I slid the wing in for the first time. looking down the fuse to see if it was at 90 degrees to the stab. Looks like there is a twist in the stab too. I called the hobby shop, and they are going to get Horizon to replace it. Won't be here till Friday though. I was looking forward to having this thing built tonight. He didn't know if they'd send a whole kit, or just the fuse. I hope they send the whole kit! Two for one would be really nice!!!

Just a Question-- How much does all your guys planes weigh? I just got a little shock-- I re-weighed my plane and I guess that I weighed it wrong the first time.
My AUW weight is now 13.10 oz. with a tp 730, And 14.70 oz. with a tp 1320.

I wanna know if I have a heavy plane or not??

16oz. with a kokam 1500(4oz.), park 470 and CC PHX25 and some balance lead in it. Using bigger dubro wheels like the tribute comes with for grass field landings. I'd say yours is fine, mines a porker in comparison, and flys great. I added some fiber reinforced tape and some thin ply on the nose as seen in an earlier post, great idea, stiffens up the fragile nose area ALOT! Also had to add about 1 oz of lead to the tail to get the CG 22-25mm back from the spar, flys good there, no trim change from upright to inverted. Did one flight last weekend at dusk, and it flys awesome. Was doing knife edge and blenders with it and I've never done either before with any sucess, this plane can fly alot better than I can! Not quite as much punch out of a hover that the Tribute and Ultimate had with the geared 370's and a 12x6, but alot quieter and smoother. Flys great, I'll have to try it with a smaller pack and no lead in the tail. I have 3 of the 1500's laying around, hard to beat for $36 each from the LHS. Have to try some Thunderpower 900's in it next. Sidenote: Kokam 1500's are rugged! Had one drain too low and the top cell puffed a little, not taking any chances, so I drained it in some saltwater overnight. Then I got the idea, why not blow it up!? Found one good cell out of the three and hooked up some long wires direct to it. This was outside on with an extinguisher handy, have to be safe Took 8 amps into that one 1500mah cell at about 6 volts just to get it to swell and it just held that for like 5 minutes more. 4 amps only brought it to 130 degrees with an infrared thermometer after about 20 minutes. Finally after not being able to kill it with the charger, I gave it a vampire style death with a long metal stake through it. It just hissed and blew out a could of smoke, still no flames. I won't even tell the whole story about the guy at the LHS that bent some Kokam 2000's in a crash onto pavement, bent the pack 90 degrees and then "straightened it back out as far as I could before it cooled down". He's still using it..... I was scared just to hold it for a few seconds after looking it over. Somewhere I heard God protects innocence and ignorance, guess it's true!

lol good story about the lipos, don't think i would be that brave... now if the stick was long enough.... heck i'd just shoot it

I'm going to be getting a yak soon. Doing work at the LHS putting together the entire e-flight line-up and setting them up for flight. I've finished the ultimate and the tensor and i've flown both of them just to "test" them, you know The tensor is a blast to fly but its just so... fake. I don't like that it flies no matter what orientation it has to the ground, it just gets pulled around by the prop. I'm hoping the yak flies a little more traditionally. I haven't completed one for my LHS, just started it yesterday. It will be running a park 400 outrunner 920kv with an 11x4.7 prop, TP1320 lipo, e-flight 20 amp esc, and 3 HS-55's with a JR receiver. Should fly pretty good.

When i get one for myself i was thinking about this set-up:

park 400 920kv
apc 11x4.7
TP1320
e-flight 20 amp
2 HS-55's and 1 HS-81 on aileron's (i've got 6 lying around, might as well use one and save some money on the 55's)
hitec micro 555 receiver.

Any thoughts on this set-up?

Memopad,

That's a good setup, but you might check current draw with the 11x4.7, I think it may be too much prop. Don't know the Park 400 motor firsthand, but the AXI 2208/34 draws well over 14 amps with a 10x3.8 prop and TP1320. We are trying a 10x5E next. It draws just under 14 amps, so it looks like a good match, but have not flown yet to see performance. I'm in China for two weeks, so no flying till I return. I miss my Yak .
