Okay, I need some help!!! I've framed up the plane and have a new Outrunner 400. It says to reverse the shaft by releasing the set screw and move through the stationary part of the motor. I was able to loosen the screw. In fact, I completely removed it and am looking at the shaft through the hole. I can't move the shaft. It has some form of Loctite or something on the set screw. The thing is bound down where I can't move it and I don't want to damage it by really "cranking down on it". If I can't get it fixed, can I just run the outrunner on the outside in the normal shocky way? As you can tell, I'm new to electrics!

Thanks in advance for your help...

You will have to use a bit of force. I have reversed many outrunners and the loctite that they use on the setscrew seeps onto the shaft. Support the shaft on a hard surface (concrete floor) and apply steady even pressure. You can also drip some CA debonder in the setscrew hole and it can help break down the loctite.

-Mike

Thanks Mike, I was able to break it free by gently tapping it with a jeweler's hammer and placing the bell housing on a piece of wood with a hole in it to allow the shaft to move down. Worked great, but real scared me since the instructions said that when you release the set screw, the shaft moves easily. Great help!!!

Shannah,

Just maidened my Yak 54... my setup is AWESOME . Vertical is agressive and this bird likes the setup real nice. Flies pattern in the wind like a big plane. Gusty 5-10 mph, and hardly bobbles. I came in dead 14.00 oz with one aileron servo (for now). Build was about 7 hours in one evening.

I am VERY pleased. Big improvement over the HellRaiser. Landings were a breeze in the breeze. Inverted hands off, hover at a touch over 1/2 throttle. KE was solid with only a little roll coupling and maybe a slight pull to the canopy. Roll rates are hot and very axial. Trimmed two clicks down for hands off.

The AXI 2208/34 with an APC 10x3.8 is plenty of power and perfect with this setup. It's a little lighter than the HR was with the same gear, nice. CG approximatly 1" behind first CF Spar with TP 1320 in the nose against the rearward bulkhead. We'll try our TP 730 when the wind lets up... I think it will be even better @ 12.75 oz. On the HR this setup was incredible, just less fly time (10 min).

My son flew a HR too, now a Tensor 4D. I wanted something that flies more like our Funtana 90... this is it. A BIG foamy with a strong fuse, good looks and durable, but at a reasonable weight and price. This bird is the ticket. The specs on the box drew me to it, and I am NOT dissapointed. Now that my boy has flown this Yak, he wants one when the Tensor gets tired.

I may put in a second aileron servo after a while so I can play with flaps, spoilerons and flaperons. Probably need to make some oversized servo arms to get more defelction on Elevator and Rudder. Don't need it on Aileron, plenty now. 3D is good, but in the wind hard to judge. Hover at this CG was difficult to hold, but keeping it up high it's hard to see what's happening.

For anyone thinking about this plane... buy it now! It is awesome! . Very predicatable and a solid flyer. Good practice plane for the bigger nitro planes... I love it!

Did you get the correct shift electron? You need the Jr, positive
shift not the Futaba, Hitec, negative shift.

Thanks GM,
I am using the Extremeflightrc.com Torque 26T, 9X3.8 APC Slowfly, Eflite 20a esc, 3S 900 Thunderpowers and 4 pico servos. I dont have near as much throw on the Elevator as I would like, but it does ok.

Thanks for the info. How do you think the Extreme Flight motor compares to the AXI 2208-34?

I have never run the 2208, but I would say it is comparable in power. The noticable difference will be in motor temperatures. The EXF Torque's run considerably cooler than AXI's and Himax's. They are more comparable to Hackers new outrunners. An even hotter setup on the Yak is the Torque 22T, TP 3S 1320, and 11X3.8. About 14 amps, but 32 oz of thrust. On a 14 oz airplane...that is just a tiny bit ballistic .

Ok question. I'm new to electric's and on the motors there is a Kv rating. There is 2 differnt types of E-FLites outrunner.. 1 has i think 740 Kv and the otehr has 920 Kv . What do i need for my plane? The yak that is.

If you are referring to the Park 400, Here is what I would go with Park 400 920kv motor, 10x4.7 prop and 3S 830-900mAh. 12.5 oz and close to 2:1

I have a crashed foamy Extra I've been meaning to fix. After reading about this plane, however, I am thinking of scrapping the Extra and using the gear in this Yak. I am running a HiMax HA2015-4100 brushless motor, which I assume will be plenty for this plane. Any opinions?
