Ok-my set up.10X3.8 /Phoenix 10/1080kv 370 outrunner/Superlight build. My question is what 3cell battery to get for a light setup with power to hover and won't cut out my esc.I have flown other 370s with 20 amp esc and 1320s,and the power and vertical pull out of hover is exceptional as far as I am concerned.I just want the slow flying ability for the down on the deck aerobatics that only a light package can provide.I am willing to give up a little power.

Gary,

Your 1320's are perfect, unless you want to dump $$$ on some 15-20C 900 mAH class batteries. Short fly times, but really lite.

Hi gmeister,

We are running some aircraft with this exact setup..... and 480 and 740 mAh THP Prolite 3s packs... No issues. Always use soft autocut in 3D foamies. Works VERY well. Plenty of power, Pack keeps up perfectly (especially an a lite plane like yours.

Current generation THP 900's are also good if you want more flight time... I think the 740's are a good compromise.

DAAAAMMMMMMNNNN GMiester, that's a light one! I don't remember what the book says on CG, but it works good there. I think it was 3/4" - 1" behind the front spar, not sure about that.

Well... let's check that out. Website says... uhhh... none of the Himax motors have 3800 Kv. What is the model number?

Well, I would not take his word for it on thrust. You need to get the model/part number and correct brand name. Put up a link to the ebay page so we can see the picture too.

T-man... My son, (3-d kid) had questioned you earlier in the thread about the ideal motor choice for this plane.... I am looking to order somthing tonite and was wondering if you had a dream setup in mind for this plane to make it 3-d perfect for mostly outdoor flying, what would it be? still sold on the axi 2212/20? Or would Hacker be a better route for any reason. I am purchaceing him all new equipmet for this one. I myself am into giantscale gassers and my knowledge is mostly in that, all this electric hype is somewhat confusing to me.... just have not invested enough time in it as of yet. So by reading your posts i can see you are very knowledgable in this area and that is why i feel pretty good about asking your advice..... I have on hand a Jeti ESC, a CC phoenix 25, and if need be i will purchace new TP lipos.... and will probably go with hs-55 all around. What are you thoughts, Thanks for helping me out, I am about to start a 46% Ultimate/ D/A-150 and a C-ARF 2.6 Extra D/A-100 build.... so as you can see i am being a little lazy trying to find a perfect setup for his foamy Thanks! 3-D

Well, let's check it out. 3800 Kv x 11.1 V = 42180 rpm. Final Drive RPM will be 42180 / 5.3 = 7950 rpm.

Motor specs say 22 amps burst, at 250 watts max. Right off the bat, STRONG 3D needs 12-15 watts per ounce. So, 250 watts is going to be best on a plane 16 to 20 oz's.

Now, playing with, Wattage Calc to get the right order of magnitude, it says that at 7950 rpm, you should turn an APC 11x7E, and generate 228 watts (output). Assume you have 75% efficiency (gearbox), then your battery draw would be 228 watts / 0.75 = 300 watts... too much.

Try again, we need 250 watts (input) x 0.75 = 188 watts (output). APC 11x5.5E will make 179 watts output. Close enough.

Now we go to ThrustCalc, and with that data we see 2.09 lbs (33.4 oz's) Thrust. 0.95 kg... pretty close to his claim, assuming the motor will do 250 wattts, you got a deal!
