Just got mine home from the LHS and I havent even taken it out of the box yet. I will have to mount my outrunner motor on the outside of the firewall as I cant change my output shaft. Other than that it should be a piece of cake.

I've also read that the fuselage is fragile in various posts. I haven't built mine yet but running a strip of packing tape down the length of the fuselage should help.

Flew my new e-flite yak last night in my school gym, straight and level and figure eights. very smooth plane.

flew this morning on the school field, plane hovered comfortably out of my hand, upright, inverted, rolling

circles, torque rolls, super tight loops, knive edge passes and hovering were amazingly controlable. What

a difference from my shock flyer, which is also a fantastic flyer.

Congrats on your success... told you that 2208/34 was a great choice. Flew mine with a TP730 the other day, WOW sums it up. The best part with this plane is it feels big, and put in a heavy battery and fly your heart out in the wind! Awesome...

Tman- Vinny is flying a 10x4.7- with a Jeti 8 amp. Do you think that you could get a better pullout with an inch more pitch?
If so- I want to try one on my plane.

It's worth a try. My guess is it will fly faster, but not be as good in hover/3D. There is math to help figure that out, but I don't know where it is. You may risk over-current with too much pitch, not sure. With the lighter Tensor you fly it might work out, but on the Yak it might not with 2 oz more weight. We can try it, but we have now way to measure current draw... that's a toy we would need to be sure.

Anyone have the "theroetical" knowhow to answer this question?

Having now tried both the 370/gearbox and the new 400 920kv outrunner. the outrunner is my preferred setup with an apc 11x4.7. The plane is just flat out smoother with the outrunner. The only thing i find with the outrunner is that it performs better with the 1320 TP than the 860-900 TP packs, but only in vertical pullouts. With the 11 x 4.7 I think the amp draw might be exceeding the the 900 packs ability, but as i said you only notice it in full throttle vertical pull outs. The 1320 packs are just slightly less than an oz heavier than a 900 pack but the outrunner is 1/2 oz lighter than the the 370/ gearbox combo.

Thanks for the info on the set up for my Yak..

All to often we tend to over power these models there by increasing

the wing loading and decreasing the models performance.

So is the 2208/34 a good choice for the E-Flite Yak?? I will have an extra 2208/34 when the hollow shaft one comes in for 4D with the shocky, so im thinking about getting this yak for the other axi. I will use 3c 1320 or 860.

Ryan,

Both Vinny and I are running that very combo. It is GREAT. It's not totally ballisting vertical, but fairly agressive. I think it's a great combination, and a wonderful teaching platform for bigger aircraft. You will not be disappointed. It is not a snappy radical unrealistic aircraft like a Tensor. It flies real... that's what I really like about it.

It's easy to manage in a breeze with the heavier TP1320, lands like my 90 sized nitro plane, stunts both pattern and 3D very well and has the big-plane feel I was looking for. If you want to get more radical 3D, put in the lighter battery (TP730 for me) and go crazy. Using a APC 10x3.8, and gonna try a 10x4.7 to see how it does.

This is truely an amazing plane. Better than the little bipe's and shockys, with a full fuse and true ARF construction. All the wires and crap are inside, out of sight. If I bust this one up, I WILL replace it with another one. It will do any stunt in the book, and well...

Go for it...

I set up my Yak54F with the Eflite 400 and 11x4.7 apc prop. Not enough vertical. Perhaps a smaller prop. JR sub micro receiver and JR 241 on Elevator/Rudder and JR281 digital on the Aileron. I am using the Dubro large servo arms. Plenty of throw. Phoenix25 and TP3120 behind the gear. I removed the E-clip on the motor shaft and loosened the set screw. I tapped the motor shaft into position and tightened the set screw. I used the Eflite Prop Hub. I tried the AXI2208/34, as well. Similiar performance. Both motors were pulling 11 amps and 96 watts. It is more fragile than my FancyFoam Edge540. Both are good in the wind.

Thinking about a hotter motor. Any suggestions?

I assume you meant TP1320...

It suprises me you are not happy with the 2208/34. How much does it weigh with the 1320 onbaord. Mine is dead 14 oz, and has good verticle. I don't have a meter to check amp/watt, but I am using a Jeti 8-amp ESC, and it works great. I would be looking for a problem somewhere. Unless you expect a ballistic missle. It's not super hot, but it pulls straigt up out of a hover pretty well. Maybe your ESC is bad?

Someone earlier was running a 2212/34 and claimed it was real nice. The 2208/34 is rated for 17 oz thrust. I think someone said the 2212/24 is good for 21 or 22 oz's thrust at 12 amps.

Tman - I did mean TP1320.
I just weighed my Yak54f and it weighs 15oz including the TP1320. The TP1320 weighs 3.1oz. Now I did have 2 early on accidents. After the first flight, I landed and half the elevator broke off close to the horn. It may have gotten jammed in the car and I did not notice it, but it did not break off until I landed. I repaired that with foam safe CA. I waited 15 minutes and tried to fly again and it came off as if it were never glued. The glue was still wet (Eflite Thick Slow Cure). I guess Slow Cure really means SLOW). I took it home and let it dry overnight. On the second flight, the wind blew it over on takeoff and broke the fuse in half just behind the wing. I reglued the fuse and reinforced it with very light glass cloth about 1/2 inch wide. I have flown it a dozen times since then, but the repairs probably added weight. It flies well but will not pull out of a hover. I also was advised to use the Dubro large heavy duty servo arms. They probably add to the weight. I could probably put the lighter weight arms and use CF strips to extend the arms.

I put this together for outdoor flying. I would like to use a stronger motor/prop combo to give me more thrust. Any suggestions?
I have another Yak54f that I will put together with the motor/prop I am currently using and see how much it weighs and how it performs.

It has been so breezy around here, this month, it is hard to keep a light foamy intact

You might check out your Pheonix ESC programming. On the Jeti I set "hard timing" and it made a huge difference on power output. I looked at the Phoenix 25 manual

It has several settings for timing, and it seems to have "current limit" settings. I would check to see that the current limit (not cutoff) is to option 3. I would also try the three timing settings to see which worked best (probably option 1). At 15 oz, my HellRaiser pulled verticle with decent authority with the 2208/34 and TP1320. I would also turn off "soft start" (option 3) and the "brake type" (option 5) to improve spool-up. I think one or more of these issues may be your challenge.

TMan - You may be right. I set up my CC25 according to the settings that FancyFoam gave me for my Edge540. I bought this plane one year ago and the recommended powerplant then was Himax 4100 with the GWS Gearbox (661 Spur and 10T Pinion) and GWS 12x6 prop. The CC25 settings suggested by FF were as follows:

Cut-off Voltage - 5 (9v)
Current limit - 2 (Low Overcurrent - Will shutdown rapidly) - Your suggested setting is 3 (Moderate overcurrent threshold - shutdown after slight delay)
Brake - 1 (Soft delayed brake) - Your suggested setting is 5 (Brake disabled)
Throttle Type - 1 (Auto calibrating throttle)
Electronic Timing Advance - 2 (5 deg-20 deg standard) - Your suggested setting is 1 (12 deg-35 deg - High Advanced Timing)
Cuttoff Type - 2 (Soft cuttoff)
Soft Start - 3 (Fast start)

AaaaHa! I am running a 10x3.8 on a 8 Amp Jeti and it never over-currents... I bet that is a big part of your problem, too much prop.

Just back from flying my Yak 54 at the local park. Just to confirm, the verticle performance on my Yak is very nice . It pulls out of a hover very briskly, and I am real pleased.

So, the 2208/34 with a APC 10x3.8 on a TP1320 is definitly a solid setup. The only complaint I have is the CG is a bit too far forward to get solid hover. I have the battery sitting verticle right against the aft bulkhead in the motor compartment. It won't go any further back, and the Rx is all the way to the rear of the under-wing compartment. Next time out, I will try to put the battery in the under-wing area all the way forward, but I think that's going to be too much rearward CG. I'll advise my findings (or crash results). I am also concerned that in that position the battery might shift and bind up the aileron servo... gotta think about that one a bit .

I have not been able to fly it yet because of the weather. Nevada is in the Tsunami season right now.LOL We normaly are the dryest state in the union with the most sunshine, not this year. Oh well I have been abel to hover it in the garage at about two clicks past the half throttle position if thats worth anything. The HL 400xt seems to have plenty of power and at 11.2oz this should be a good flyer. with the motor hanging off the front I am having trouble getting the CG in the aft range. I can get it to balance at 1/2" and at 3/8" ,to go back any farther I am going to have to mount the batt under the wing along the fuse, ugly but doable. Here are some pics of the Yak along with a comparison to the HL Yak-55.

I still say that you need to put your Rx. back farther-and leave the batt. where it is.

I think that the Jeti 8 amp. can pull a max of 10 amps. without shutting it off.

TMan - Using the suggested changes to the CC25 speed controller programming, I was able to jump up to 125 Watts and 12 amps with the TP1320. I hooked up a TP2100 just to see what the Wattmeter would read. I got 15 amps and 140 watts, but this battery pack is too heavy. I will stay with the TP1320, however, I need to be careful as the pack gets hot if I run it at full throttle. I am still using the APC 11x4.7, but I will try the 10x3.8. I should take some load off the batteries.

I was thinking of pulling off the gear to save weight and trying to land soft on the rudder servo.
I made a little shelf out of foam, just below the Aileron servo. I put the TP1320 flat behind the bulkhead that the LG is mounted on and just below the Aileron servo. I am using the large Dubro HD servo arms and I have hooked the Pull Pull wires to the inside of the control horns and the outside of the servo arms. I get outrageous throws. I do not feel the CG is a problem even there. It has been breezy here so whenever I hover, the plane blows back in my face. I have not flown it on a calm day, yet. I have about 10 flights on this plane and over 40 on my FancyFoam Edge 540. The Yak takes a beating on the fuse. It is pretty thin.

havent got the yak in the air yet still trying to figure out the best outdoor setup
thats compatable with the TP1320 li po
does anyone have vpp and use on the yak54f...i herd that vpp can only be used on a 10oz or less plane is this true?
