Hobby Lobby is only offering the VPP on the AXI2208/34. They are selling the motor with the prop shaft drilled out. Shulman Aviation is also offering a VPP. I do not know what motor it will work with

Getting alot of early morning flights with my Yak. The 2208/34 with an appoge 11.1v 830ma. puts the plane under 12.3/4ozs.

after ten minutes of flying and some hovering the plane will still hover out of my hand. My point is

stay with a lower ma. battery, hover and perform all your 3-d moves, just limit your flight times , also CG shouldn't

be a problem. Anyone buying this plane in my opinion will have no regrets..

duenasch,

Are you saying you have run both props on the AXI 2208/34 and find the 10x4.7 better?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vinny,
I need to get a smaller LiPo, I have two TP1320's, so I grunt to spend more on batteries. I flew my Son's TP730 in it the other day. It really does fly light like that, and hovers much better. Feels a little tail-heavy in pattern, but I'm just not used to it like that. However, the wind sure kicks it around at 12 oz. The bigger battery really gives it that big-plane feel and much better wind behavior .
I am really happy flying with te big battery, getting 18 minutes in mixed pattern/3D flying. It's almost too long...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BBarber,

You get that thing up with a APC 10x3.8 yet after your ESC changes? Anxious to hear if it is performing well for you now. How is the verticle pullout?

Congrat's tf2psycho, it is an awesome little plane. I am amazed every time I find the time to get it up. Great in the wind, not like the other depron dogs...

Finally got to maiden mine today-WOW! This is a foam plane? Knife edge dream, I cant wait to get another flight on it-it is so sweet. It really is a stiff frame, the control response is awsome compared to the HL Yak-55. Its worth the $60 and more. For those wondering about HL's 400XT motor-it has plenty of power to fly the YAK-54 but lacks verticle and punch out of a hover, but you can fly out of the hover no problem. for $29 its a bargain motor that pulls the HL Yak-55 around like a rag doll,but the HH YAK-54 is about 3oz heavier. I plan on getting a 920kv outrunner for it. This plane is highly recommended!!

Flew it later with a 10c lipo, pulls out of a hover, no problem, not a rocket but pulls out very well. I cant believe how easy it hovers and knife edges. Flys great on high rates and inverted is no problem. This plane flys so well I dont know how much flight time my glo-planes will get. Now I just have to find a lighted parking lot.

We flew the Yak like 6 times this weekend. Just can't get enough. This thing is so good in the wind, we are getting fearless with it. Doing a Harrier in 15 mph wind right in front of me, no fear. Man this is a fun bird. Amazing stability in the wind, not like the bibe's we have been flying. Just gotta remember on that downwind run the "relative" wind speed to the wings, needs to go FAST to keep flying .

Does anyone know where to get longer servo arms for the Hitec HS-55 servos? I have looked everywhere... nobody seems to make them. Would like to get more throw on the tailfeathers... but it looks like the only chance to do that is to fabricate extensions to the servo arms.

my yak should be here friday, I had a nice 3dfoamy katana, but it got crashed up in a car crash ... I'm going to swap everything straight off the katana, hacker a20 20L with x20 esc, gws pico servos and naro rx, polyquest 1500 3s... The katana had an AUW of about 16-17oz, and had pretty much unlimited vertical with a 10x3.8 apc prop, crazy vertical on a 12x3.8 apc... Even though the katana wasnt a full fuse design, I think the yak will turn out a little lighter because of thinner foam and I won't need to add any extra braces to keep the tail straight. Can't wait for this plane

Got mine in the air this weekend (Park 400 920kv, Axi 11x4.7, HS55's, TP 3C1320). Battery under the aileron servo, balances ~1" behind the front spar.

I gotta agree - this is the best flying foamy I've tried yet. Knife edge loops, easy hovering, good inverted flight. Just like everybody else I need more tailfeather deflection. I was thinking of just drilling new holes farther down on the horns and re-doing the pull-pull's.

I wish I had a bit more pull out. I fly at 5000 feet altitude., which means there is 15% or 20% less air to grab. The instructions warn you to use the smaller prop with the outrunners, but the motor, battery and ESC are barely warm now after 15 minutes of flying. Do you think I could run a 12" prop at this altutude?

Thanks,
Greg

GSM,

Congrats on the maiden!

I'm going to take some spare full-size servo arms from some Hitecs and laminate them on top of the smaller stock arms, maybe pin them if necessary. I thought about moving in on the other end like you suggest, but I think the wires will begin to hit the stabs. They almost do that now. I think bigger on the servo end it the better option.

Bigger prop... it's all about current draw. If you have an amp meter, just be sure you are no more than 13 amps at WOT with whatever prop, and you're golden. Keep the battery at or below 10C draw, that's your gauge.

gs, you might be able to pull it off with a 12x3.8, just keep a close eye on temperatures or get a meter, and just dont go dump a full battery hanging it on the prop for the first flight :P

Tman, I fly big gas planes,28% and up. I picked up the YAK today on my way home, It is still in the box, I know nothing about electric planes can you help me out here and let me know what to get so it will fly great. I saw the plane at my local hobby shop and just had to get it, now all I need is to figure out the right way to set her up.Yeah I know I should have done my homework first but after what I have read here I am glad I jumped right on in. I am fortunate enough to live on a large piece of property and wanted something I could fly at home to practice with. Thanks in advance for any help you can give

Welcome Pat,

You won't be disappointed, it's a great plane!

Not much magic here on the build. As for rigging, there are too many options to list. I fly an AXI 2208/34, Jeti 8 Amp ESC, APC 10x3.8, Electron 6 Rx, HS-55 Servos and TP1320 LiPoly. I am very happy with mine. Not ballistic, but agressive vertical pullout. It will do anything you ask, and do it well.

There are only a few little build tricks, and if you have read the thread, they are all there.

I had a BAD day...

Got back from lunch today early, decided to take it up in the parking lot at work. Didn't range check, because I had flow in the field next to the plant before. Took off WOT, climb to 40 ft, make a right turn... coming back toward me. Then, hangs a left, straight at the flagpole, then a radical left, I can't control it! Turns abruptly in a loop just short of the flagpole, dives inverted toward the asphalt, rolls over, hangs a right in between two big rigs at the truck docks out of sight. Pulls up and slams head-on straight in the side of a big steel frieght container. BIG bang.

It was WOT the whole time, I had no control after the first 3 seconds. The plane is totalled. The entire front half of the plane is tiny bits of confetti blowing around the parking lot. All the gear is good, but no hope for repair. Going down after work to buy a new one. This plane is just too good to give up on it.

Moral of the story... RANGE CHECK everywhere you fly!

The next one will be even better.

Psycho... no, it was a Hitec Electron 6.

I went and walked around with the remains of the plane, battery still connected, with the TX in hand and still on. The motor was twitchng on-off-on, and the servos were jittering and jumping. I'm sure it was a raidio signal echo problem. Those big metal truck trailers (walls) and the 40 ft tall buiilding on two sides, the radio signals are bouncing all over out there. I did a stupid thing, I sould have thought... but noooooooo, I put in the battery, set it on the ground and hammered it WOT. I think I was shot down by my own echoing signals.

I am interested in the Yak and new to electrics. I have flown pattern for years, so not new to the hobby.

I am looking at the Adrenaline which comes with a package deal of motor and plane.

Question: The motor that comes with the Adrenaline is an AXI 2212-26. Will this work with the Yak?

I have looked at the specs between the 2212-26 and the 2208-34. I am having difficulty seeing much difference. I told you I was new to electrics. What is the difference?

Thanks,

Ed

Ekir,

The 2212/26 will work fine with the Yak 54. You'll need at least a 15 amp ESC, and run no less than a 3S 1300 mAH LiPoly. With a APC 9x6 or 10x4.75 it will be a good bit stonger than the 2208/34 according to the motor charts.

Check the motor here: http://www.modelmotors.cz/index.php?id=en&nc=produkty_vypis&kategorie=m_neodym_ac&id_rady=axi_22&id_produktu=axi_2212_26&nazev_rady=Series%20AXI%2022&hmotnost_rady=(24,5%20-%2057%20g)

>edit<

I looked at the Adrenaline, I see its a shocky and I assume you are using allt he gear from that plane. It's a perfect setup. You will love it with that equipment!
