For anybody who truely wants to see the plane in action, I provided a short video clip of me hovering around at the rink, with an unsuspected yet inevitable plop at the end.

its a messy url, but its a free video host so.. what do you want....

hope you enjoy.
I'm adding gyros soon.

My bday is Thursday, but we will be leaving Friday and not come back until Saturday night for a little trip. So, you want to know what my parents are going to let me and my bros do? (we are triplets, so we all have the same bday, but they aren't crazy for planes) they are going to let us open up stuff Tuesday or Wednesday so that we will have time to do stuff with it. Considering I don't get home each weekday until 6 oclock, this is great! I'll have time to build, and then if I don't have a component that I need (very likely, my first ARF here) than I can order Sat or go to LHS. Hopefully my mom bought everything I need, but you never know.

You might not want to get your hopes up too high... she might have thought it was too complicated to order and just got you an MP3 player...

Well, you have a job. When I get a job, I'm going to have to have to limit my plane spending, cause I know I'll go crazy with the plane buying. And if that happens, I'll run out of gas money

Thx for the early congrats! You deserve one more than me with all of the Yak info you've given. Happy Birthday!!

No I've never actually been to some of the fields. I know that there is one in Camp Jordan somewhere...I fly at a field off of Amnicola highway. Where do you fly?

Well the Yak is built, but I need to buy a JST connector for my batt and install the electronics. I may need a new soldering iron tip too after I found out I was doing it all wrong.

Flyingace
I fly up in Summit with the Chattanooga Radio Control Club.
You can visit our site here www.crccflyers.org
If you get a chance come up and fly with us sometime. I am also pretty sure that the feild you fly at is over at the River Park, right.
See ya

Yep you're right.

Good news and bad news about my Yak. Bad news, I need a JST male connector for the battery pack and I'm probably going to get some connectors for the motor too. These are the only things keeping me from flying. Good news, everything is built and ready to go except for the Batt, motor, and ESC. All servos are installed and linked up and the connectors should be ariving Tuesday or Wednesday because my mom ordered them while I was gone (thanks mom!)

What are your opinions on this: I used Scotch tape to hinge my plane. I know that there is special hinge tape or you can use plastic hinges, but I don't have any. So I looked up stuff and found a guy who used Scotch tape to hinge all of his foamies. Is this bad? Maybe I should use electrical tape (sticks better and is stronger)? Scotch tape seems to be working fine, everything moves like it's supposed to (Except I cant test it out under the servos power yet)

I want to fly this thing so bad!

I dont know about scotch tape..... That seems to be a little to weak for my liking. I would suggest picking up some duck tape brand packing tape at Wal-Mart. It seems to work really well and I have been using it on most of my foamies. I would also suggest that if you are going to use tape, make sure and hinge both sides of the wing. Just move the ailerons, rudder, and elevator to full deflection and then put the tape on. Once this is done move the part to full deflection the other way and then hinge it also. This is a trick that I learned from putting together an Ikaraus Edge 540 shocky.
See ya

I already knew about hinging both sides and such, but I think I'm beginning to love electrical tape for non electrical stuff. I used a mix of the scotch tape and electrical tape for my hinges...and to hold my antenna down, and to hold the servo wires down, and to hold together pieces that didn't CA too well...LOL I'm building this thing a little on the heavy side. Shouldn't hurt considering I've never flown 3D before anyway. When I get good, I'll start building them lighter.
