That's the reason when I built a scratch-built 3DX out of depron, I mounted the carbon rod on TOP of the wing...that way it wouldn't pull loose in high G maneuvers like a parachute or wall. (unless you did them inverted)

what i did on mine was run a bead of CA in the groove and set the rod in it and put the kicker on it,when it cured i put some more on the rod. so far it's holding up,but there's always the next flight.

I ordered this plane about a month ago along with the engine. Saw it advertised and thought it was too good of a deal to pass up. Anyways, it arrived weeks ago, but I haven't done anything with it. This is my first endeavor into electrics. I have flown a little over a year now with glow engines. I currently have four planes.
I need some advice on setting up this plane. I still haven't ordered the ESC, battery and servos. Mainly because I don't know what to get. I read back in post#85 by ghee-grose that www.balsapr.com was a good place to get a reasonable ESC. I started looking at that site and it looks like it has everything I need. Can somebody that knows point out what servos (size etc) I should get as well as the battery. I assume that the more power the Li-Po has the heavier it gets, so is there an optimum capacity (3C 1200mAh etc) that I should get? Also, I have a Polk receiver (seeker 6) that weights 0.5 oz. Can I use this receiver or is it too heavy??
If so, what do you recommend I should get? Oh, also, do you use a switch harness on these setups or do you just disconnect the battery?
Thanks for any help,

tychoc,
I used an ESC from www.balsapr.com , BP-10 to be exact and I had good use out of it until last week. It seems that the thing has gone Ka-Put! I'm gonna take it back to the hobby shop and see if he can send it off....he said he had a couple to send back as it is. I will let you guys know what comes of it.
The servos I use are GWS Pico servos. There are several kinds that are similar size and will work.
Battery choice is a broad question.... The 1200 mah 3-cell would be a heavier battery but will give you about 18 minutes of flight. I have two batteries that I run on mine, a 640mah Kokam 3-cell that gives me about 8-10minutes, and a 1320mah ThunderPower 3-cell that gives me about 20 minutes. Mine flies better with the 640 because it's an ounce lighter, but I can adapt my flying when I use the TP pack.
Your Polk receiver will work, but add a little extra weight...and if you run a bigger battery, then you will have even more weight. It's up to you of course.
I don't use a switch harness. I just disconnect the battery.

i used a e-flite 20amp brushless esc and a e-flite park370 outrunner with good results, i run 2 packs with mine ,
appogee 2s1p 830mha and a poly-quest 3s1p 830mha from cheapbatterypacks.com. the 3s pack is alittle heavier, but like ghee said u can move it around to get your cg right.i'm using a GWS pico receiver with 2 naro servo and a blue bird 380 servo for the aileron's. hope this helps out, good luck

I use a Castle Creations Phoneix 10 with mine. I fly only 1320mah Thunder Power packs and use a four channel Hitec electron reciever with GWS pico servos and it seems to fly really well with about 15 to 20 min flight times.
I hope this info helps

Yes, that helps. Thanks guys
I'm trying to keep the cost down a little, so this is what I'm thinking about ordering:
1. 3 x Hitec HS-55 Servo
2. Blue Bird BMR-04 Horizontal Pin Fut/Hitec receiver
3. BP 10A Brushless ESC
4. 2 x PQ-850-3S (10C 850mah polyquest pack - CheapBatterypacks.com)
How does that look?
Also, do I need to order connectors between the battery and the ESC? The battery can be ordered with different types of connectors. Which one should I get? What else do I need or is nice to have?
tnx,
tychoc

I say go with Dean's Ultra on the battery...therefore you will need to buy a male Dean's to put on your ESC.
For motor to ESC connection you can solder it straight to it or use various connectors (barrel plugs, Dean's 4-pin with the spare pin cut off, etc.)
My opinion on the servos....GWS Pico servos are cheaper and I think they come with longer servo arms than the 55's.

i have one of those quest pack's,for the money they are pretty good. going to get another one later. i use the dean's ultra's on all of my eletric's now it's much easer to keep up with one charge lead insteaded of a rat's nest of wires! ya didn't say what prop your going to use? on my e-flite 370 outrunner, i used a APC 10x3.8 sf.
works real good. have fun with it ,i know me and ghee do

put ya a 3s pack on her and hold on for the ride!! a 3s pack really bring's it to life, i use both packs and i get more run time with the 3s and if ya get in trouble it'll put out with power to spare.

i have a 10/3.8 apc sf on mine, seem to work good. the motor get's hot when i try to hover it in the house with the 3s pack, so i don't try it often(not good for the motor).

WAKE UP!!!! [sm=punching.gif]
How's everybody's Yaks doing??? I'm about to bring mine back to life. I just got my 2nd BP-10 ESC replaced. This one smoked the second I connected power to it!!! [:@] I took it back to the hobby shop and was satisfied in the $5 upgrade to the new Electrifly BL-8 ESC. I will solder it up tonight and maybe try it out tomorrow.
Anybody else having problems with their BP-10?

I love....d mine... one of the better foamies I had flown...
Was using a Hacker A20 with TP 1320mAh battery...a bit of overkill but it flew great!!!
But yesterday I launched it.....with my Radio set to the Wrong model!!!![:@][:@][&:]
It went up.... then down.... I let it get high to try and correct, but just couldn't!
it went in hard... no chance of repair...
Walked back inside and ordered 2 more!
I have flown several other brand foamies....even the ones with the "special wings" (I'll just leave it there!)
and these are my favorite!
They fly well on windy days too!!
Cheers and hope to be back up in a few days!

[:'(] Ouch! I hate it when I get the wrong model memory selected! [:@] I now take a Sharpie and number each plane to the perspective model memory. I write the big number right where my battery connections are so I see it plainly... this hasn't failed me yet.
It's kinda a reminder in case I get in too big of a hurry to show off, I mean fly.
Hate that you lost it... glad you're replacing it though. It really is a nice plane!

Hey Guys -
How do you mount the motor considering if your using an radial mount the shaft will come in contact with the foam.
AXI 2208-34
3x hs55
cc 10
tanid 3s 830
gws rx w/ micro antennae
Thanks
Mark

Just about finished with my HL Yak-55. It is going together well but I wonder about the control rods. From the instructions you have to cut the threaded metal rods and glue them to the ends of the CF rods to connect to the control horns. I'm wondering about repaceing that arrangment since I've not been good at CA'ing two rods together. Seems like HL could have just given us CF push rods that had connectors that fit directly on them.
Has anyone else found a simplier solution for their pushrods?

I don't quite understand why they want you to cut it. I cut the z-bend end and then just use my z-bend tool to create another z-bend (try saying that 3x fast). So the rod for me is the right length.
